We often like to pretend that this isn’t a reality of the sport. That our overwhelming experience and skill has the ability to diminish the inherent risk involved with these challenges. But the reality is that this can happen to any of us at anytime, and the stakes are higher when the severity of the challenge increases, along with degrees of freedom and the room for human error expands. Ultimately, this scenario demonstrates the value of having a team of individuals who can remain calm and collected, and why everyone who trains Parkour needs some foundational level of first aid. I’m glad you came away relatively unscathed Dom, and I hope the shoulder is healing well.

I was so confident, overly confident, and when you start to lose respect for the risk, that's when things can get bad. I did a big front, after getting completely soaked, even though I didn't feel comfortable doing it wet I thought 'I've done hundreds of these, what's the worst that can happen?' Destroyed my knee and took over a year to recover.

There is no shame in taking a step back and being happy with what you have brought to the sport. You see a lot of athletes step away from the sport entirely after a certain point, Tony hawk is a great example of someone who shares your new mindset and has continued to do what he loves throughout his life. Hahaha, well, I do watch Schlappen... Bro, I'm shook by that video. Firstly, your buddies handled the situation PERFECTLY... I also have footage of my accident, I also blanked out and I was lucky that the first on the scene were first-aid trained and made me stay still and wait for help. Secondly, the mental rut and state of reflection you were in afterwards was very probably a sneaky symptom of PTSD. I've needed 3 rounds of trauma focused therapy because of PTSD - I had no idea the ways in which it was eating away at me... I would say be mindful of the head spaces you find yourself in for at least the next 18 months, especially as you were unconscious and have memory loss - it's a weird thing to get your head around but just because you can't recall it doesn't mean your brain wasn't completely consciously trying to get you through every minute of that traumatic episode, and part of the mechanism is your brain represses the experience into your subconscious where it can't hurt you. The low/post accident blues you felt may well find buoyancy in the mind-stream again, just be gentle with yourself if this does happen. What kills me most is I began to withdraw, I stopped doing the things I loved and stopped nurturing connections I had with people, this includes my family, my Partner who eventually left me, my friends and even my own children. The last round of therapy I had really enabled me to unpick all of this, but it's an ongoing journey. But then, no one ever said "just get back out there and do something that terrifies you!" to me, and maybe that would've helped - Your 10m diving front flip to sand (absolutely insane!) might actually be all the medicine you need. 🙏

Major ups for the fall and recovery, glad you came out practically unscathed! So many people see parkour and think it’s just recklessly tossing your body around, and that practitioners don’t understand the risks. The way you were able to take a very scary slam (that prob would’ve stopped any normal person from going back) and then work through the mental barriers and come back stronger with your biggest flip yet really shows the strength and fortitude required to consistently perform at such a high level. Mad props and major respects ❤

I think it's good that you show the reality of the sport too. If you only showed yourself doing flawless superhuman feats, then kids coming up might not have the proper respect for the danger involved. You always have to be careful of head trauma. It often can cause anxiety and depression to creep in. My son had issues with that after a gnarly gokart accident. It took about 6 months for him to be right again.

Only you could make a 10m front a little footnote at the end of a video about something else. That surely deserves its own video! Anyway, what you do is mind-bogglingly amazing. Stay safe please

Good on the lads for knowing how to properly respond to what happened and doing it so quickly and calmly, refusing to move you or let you stand up was the best thing possible. I remember a few years back seeing people carrying and moving someone who ended up having a broken pelvis after a slam and being kind of apalled at that level of carelessness that could have resulted in something catastrophic so seeing an actual calm and correct response to a serious injury is great to see.

Great video Dom. Scary shit how you fell but you seemed to take it pretty well, props to Carter and the boys for staying calm and the ambos for getting there quick. I'm really glad you were able to shift your mindset despite the multiple setbacks too, I know what it's like and especially when you're used to training at a high level you need good perspective to be able to find the right place to keep moving from

Good team in place, it makes all the difference. Had a mate nose dive his bike about 20 foot, spark out for minutes, broken neck. Gotta keep people down until the bus arrives

The low motivation and pessimistic thoughts is a manifestation of your body begging you to rest and recover to give it time to heal.
