I mean a full recovery video would probably be extremely educational, especially for younger people or those newer to parkour. People don't realise just how much you have to take care of your body and how much downtime it needs, especially from high impact activities. The transparency is refreshing and I very much hope that you'll take the time to get back to health because the last thing you want to do is have compound injuries that mean you can't do parkour ever again. Take it from someone who had health stuff remove my capacity for training and competing. Don't take your body for granted or you might end up losing the ability to do the things you love. I also don't think that maintenance as it pertains to parkour is highlighted enough. By maintenance I mean those things you do to make sure you can continue to function to the level you wish too. Anyway, speedy recovery and practise self care.

I'm always interested in recovery/PT especially for top athletes like yourself. Those kinds of exercises always seem like nice baby steps that most anyone could try out and I think they are an underexplored area of improving one's general abilities outside of the more explosive/impressive exercises. I've heard from family and friends that they can also be a way of learning about one's own body and how it works. I'd definitely enjoy a full routine breakdown.

@@Jnigo I just checked it out, its a good video, but it's not really conditioning / rehab in my personal opinion. From my personal expierence once I tore ligaments in my knee, i had to go search for answers, especially because parkour puts you in so many different positions. Your fisios only help you so far for ex. Eversions/ Inversions, stability drills. But guys like Calum for ex. Post pogo hops ( which help build up your tendons ), Kneeovertoesguy program has worked really well for my knee and there is for ex. Actual studies done on the Nordic curl, which was never prescribed by my fisios to me. To conclude it really helps if these top guys share more of these " behind the scenes " training, cause we all can bust our ankle like dom and make the same mistake as him and continue to train, when you might need to look more into rehab etc. The more we share these protocols, might help with longevity and staying inlove with the sport😄

I'm so sorry you're suffering. I appreciate your humility and honesty in sharing the poor decision-making you engaged in along the way. It's heart-breaking. I see the stress and sadness in your face. Hopefully, other athletes will take note and avoid the same outcome. I hope that you make a full recovery with the right treatment. I know it's hard to face the realities of aging and injuries, but caution and care are the way to get the best outcome. I am a long way from an athlete. I am a retired English teacher with a chronic disease (Relapsing Polychondritis) that comes with an ever-changing variety of pains and other bizarre symptoms; I've had to learn to see all plans as conditional--IF my body is up to it, I can do it. I have a LOT of limitations, but, like you, if I ignore or minimize the symptoms, the consequences affect lots of future opportunities. It's rarely worth it. LISTEN UP when your body says, "Not today," so you can be ready for another day. We only get one body. We must prioritize our well-being and give our bodies the care they need to be healthy. Sending you BIG LOVE, Dom.

Alot of pro athletes really destroy their bodies during their peak so seeing you perform at the top levels in a sport that is this demanding, taking huge drops and bails while doing it for so many years is really impressive and it would be a shame to see that hinder you in the future. Obviously there's tons of training behind the scenes to be able to take this kinda drops and make these incredible jumps that could lead to permanent injuries if you hadn't gone through the training. Take as much time as possible and then some more for rehabilitation.

I got the video recorded from 2 angles XD funny enough I haven't had too much pain after the initial 3 weeks of the muscle damage healing, it was 2 and a half months ago and I am feeling fine, still getting range of motion back but the knee feels strong, no instability or pain, if it wasn't for the MRI I would not suspect that anything really serious happened. Dom, you are a living legend, and like all legends, you need to take care of yourself. I had an injury to my right foot in 2020, right at the beginning of the p4ndemic. I was at my peak, training every day and dedicating myself completely to parkour, until I made a mistake that left me with a sequel to this day. I was training in the garage at home, I had just warmed up my upper body, I don't know why, but I completely forgot to warm up my legs and feet. I went to do that front of the beginning of training to warm up, and when I landed, I felt the greatest pain of my life. My right big toe simply twisted until it touched the top of my foot, and I almost broke the tendon. I stayed in bed for 4 months, unable to walk, I remember that my finger started to spasm and it was torture, any movement, no matter how small it was, I felt a VERY sharp pain. I literally stalled everything, the channel, my progress with training, I felt a huge void for not doing what was the most important thing for me. After 4 months in bed, I came back little by little, and decided to record a video for instagram (after a long time) and then, a few minutes later I received the notification that you had liked my video. Besides making me extremely happy and honored, it also made me sure that I was doing the right thing, never giving up on my dreams. That's why I admire you so FUCKING Dom, you are one of the reasons I never give up on a challenge, your courage and determination is something out of the ordinary. That's why I say, YOU GET OVER IT BROTHER, respect your limits, and stay calm, because all those who admire you will be with you on this one. 🍅🤟🏻🔥🔥

Hey! I've been struggling since 2 years with an injury and I finally took what was needed for it to heal (surgery). I am recovering rn. It hurts seing you hurt and pushing it because I experienced it and it's hard... Mentally draining to feel hurt after every training, like what I want to have in mind is the good part of the training, what I was able to do, the good feelings, but all that was superset by knowing I hurt my ankle again... Scared of my left ankle, even when walking, on every landing, thinking about it. I'm with you, take your time to recover. Do it for you

You're the man Dom. Always looked up to you as a young traceur from Canberra. Don't get around parkour anymore, I play basketball, rock climb and hike. But we're getting older man. I'm almost 32, I'm fit and strong, I've never stopped being stupidly active. Like you, it's so hard for me to stop when my body needs to stop. But whenever I take the time to truly rest and recover, stretch, take load off the joints, I feel bulletproof again. You're not 21 anymore. Spacing things out and taking time to recover properly will mean you can keep doing it for decades. The more you push through the pain, the quicker you'll take yourself out of the game for good. All the best bro.

Thank you for telling all about it, Dom! Your story shows how important it is not to neglect proper rehabilitation, and ultimately your body. Which, as in your case, can literally be a working tool. This is a very mature and responsible video, which I hope will make many younger viewers realise how important these things are. You are the best! ps. Now that you know which parts of your body have suffered the most over the years, I encourage you to incorporate some degree of rehabilitation exercises into your regular training. They are literally your 'Achilles' heel' so it's worthwhile to strengthen them further. And yes, I'll ask for a full breakdown of your rehabilitation routine😊

You could do a series going through the reality of recovery or a recovery journey, keeps people watching and a lot of people starting parkour don't realise that recovery from inevitable injuries is a part of it or think they are indestructible

I feel you Dom, You got some tough ankles, I nearly snapped my right midfoot tendon while doing a simple side, needed surgery and now just taking it easy hoping it will heal within time for me to get back out there during summer. Thank you for this kind of video! Inspiriting me to get back on my feet the proper way. (some exercises to get my ankles warmed up would be nice too, atleast when I'm no longer non weight bearing!) Thanks Dom!

Take your time man. Heal up. The days you spend working on this now will give you years in the future. I am also 100% here for recovery content haha. I am actually curious what you're doing. I've been having some ankle issues (from running mostly) and might benefit from more tips on ankle strengthening stuff anyway.

Dom, I think it's great you explain your injuries and how they have been difficult to manage. I'm glad you decided to take it easy and work on recovery. Documenting your recovery process and exercises would be very educational to young parkour trainees and encourage you to do this.

Hi Dom, Thank you soo much for this video, not for me but for all the people whor are not realising what's behind the scene. I'm also this kind of person working with my body (I'm a circus artist) (yeah, real full time job) and I know how hard it is to deal with injury when you love what you do. I'm 37 now and a ankle and a knee to that reliable than couple of years ago... starting acceptation... But really thank you to show the reality of an injury, thank you to show that behind "Strong-Dom-Fast-Recovery" reality is not that confortable... your are a example for a lot of people and showing your vulnerability is the best way to prove you're a whole and authentic person... and to give another picture to young people, especially boys, that no, you don't have to be the strongest, the painless the whatever to be someone... Thank you, take care of you !

Full video breakdown would be sweet. Glad you're recovering well! Could use the recovery to think about future alternate revenue streams that are PK adjacent. Building that now in your prime will make the transition seamless and less scary. Idea 1. Start production company that makes profit from clients and essentially means free production and less editing time for yourself. Idea 2. For another day.

I struggle myself with ankle flexibility and I always thought it might have to do something with repeated injuries and not landing properly, scar tissue forming because of it etc... my left knee doesn't go over the toes period. Hearing you having the same issues sort of confirms that for me so I was glad to understand the source of that problem. I wish you the best in your rehab, let's get ourselves some dorsiflexion back! And I for one whould absolutely love to see your recovery program! I have searched before about it but I haven't found anything relating exactly to what you described and what I feel.

Great share Dom. Appreciate the honesty and vulnerability. It can be difficult when an injury gets in the way of doing what you're most known for and love doing. You are an incredible parkour athlete, and have become an inspiration to so many. Take the time you need, we only get 1 body in this life. Also, know that you are so much more than just a parkour athlete.
