This kick serve drill shows you how to supinate before pronating to add a ton of RPMs to your kick serve.
If you feel like your kick serve doesn't actually kick, and instead of bouncing up and to the side, it sorta just sits up, then check out this drill.
It's with Dr. Mark Kovacs, one of the world's leading experts when it comes to tennis biomechanics - how your body should be moving when you hit a forehand, backhand, serve... and in this case, kick serve.

You guys are doing an awesome job providing an affordable alternative for instruction compared to expensive club memberships or private lessons with pros.

I followed the instructions especially on the back swing with racquet facing the fence. This position helps the upper brushing motion so abruptly hence the nasty kick the ball to the back fence. I practiced it this morning. I works wonderfully for kick serve. Sometimes it turns into spin serve if I forget to turn the racquet face to the fence. Excellent piece of instruction. 100% in the money!

Can't see the racquet during the swing

The half swing in the drill is different from the full swing, and this is not explained. In the drill, the wrist is turned so that the racket face is rotated another 180 degrees from normal, so that the opposite edge is pointing toward the spine. The student doesn’t do this in the full swing. Federer doesn’t do it in his swing, either. I can’t find an example of a pro who serves like this. If the purpose of the drill is to exaggerate the motion to develop the correct feel, this should be stated clearly. As it is, it’s very confusing.

It’s based on the idea that pronation will be stronger if it starts from extreme supination. In a way you increase the range of motion or the runway if you like. But this unfortunately makes it much harder to have the right racket face angle at contact. That’s why the player in the video was hitting wildly into the net far too often. Speed is not everything.

Very good analysis. This drill looks wrong because of it. My think is that full motion is needed on every shot for true improvement, breaking shots in parts simply does not work. Maximum acceleration is the point, and for that you do not need the ball, just swing the racket in air. Hitting the ball is a test if motion is correct.

Good luck if you make the purchase and decide it isn’t for you. Tried to return Crush It a while ago and never heard back from customer service, despite phone calls, emails, and chat messages online. That was my first and last purchase from this company.

Hmm sorry about that dude - if you go to our website there's a chat box in the bottom right corner if you need anything. Also a phone number under the "get help" dropdown.

Dear FYB, The content is amazing! Absolutely amazing! However, even with the massive discount, the price is still far too high for people to feel comfortable paying that much, no matter if they think it will be worth it or not. Personally, with the format of how you do things, I strongly believe you would make much more, and make people feel better if you lowered the prices, even to a vastly lower price of 25$. Please take this into consideration. Yours sincerely, Gwyn,

Can you use the ball drill to teach the arm motion for a flat serve for beginners?

Good idea to watch any such explanation videos on 0.25 speed, and maybe even rewatch with pauses to see if the verbal acknowledgements, and reinforcements, actually match up with the movement achieved. What really matters with any drill is transfer of info.

I know this is really a product promo video; but we didn't actually see a "before" effort from the player; and we all know the best way to make a shaving razor ad look better is to put the foam on an already shaved face. Or in tennis terms, always choose people who can already do it. There is no discernible difference, in freeze framed screen shotted examples at the saem relative points, especially in range of external to internal rortation at hand, nor pronation in forearm, nor acceleration of racquet head. As coaches, and biomehcanists not actually in a lab, we tend to see what we want to see. These are exercises assuming the student needs increased range of motion, but the narrative is about increasing stability and motor control for better acceleration in an upward direction. the narrative also completely ignore the actual changes in lateral direction of the ball trajectory.

So I have not seen one pro who has super pronation at the beginning of their racket drop, thats a first

I have a completely different approach to kick serve, this way is probably a bit limiting, as it feels more like a topspin serve instead of kick serve…
@guijs1

That’s because it is a top spin serve

he swung "into the court" because you basically told him to with that first drill. i dunno, not a fan of this drills.

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING NEW :):):) oscar wegner was talking about that already in the 90s by asking to show the back of your hand to the ball !!!!!and it would even help more if the guy would take 1handed eastern backhand to do that

Would be lovely to see the coach doing demonstrations of what he wants. Can the coach actually hit a kick serve. Watching a kid struggle is not optional.
