Splendid boats, they are. One thing though - I would not keep the fire extinguisher in a place that cannot be get at very fast - I’ve had some extinguisher training at our boat club and at work; if you cannot get at it in a second or so you might have some issues with fire… didn’t catch its size but hereabouts the minimum size for boats is 2 kg, which actually needs both good luck and some experience on its use to get anything extinguished… also it should be stored upright so that the stuff inside stays good. A fire blanket might be more useful in real life situations (some practice with it could be useful also…).

Chris, I’m planning on making a spray dodger for my boat. Any advice, thoughts, drawings/photos? My boat has a square forward end to the cockpit which is exercising my mind
@chrisstockman904
@chrisstockman904 Год назад
@@martinpryor6084 Hi Martin, the dodger was on the boat when I bought her. The cockpit is curved forward. It has proved really useful especially when camping onboard. It does restrict visibility ahead when sailing but the shelter is worthwhile. I would suggest the lightest waterproof material you can get. If you look at some of my sailing videos you could get some ideas. I don't have any plans sorry.

Paul I really like that canvas companionway cover. That will be how i will enclose my cabin in my boat build 'Gros Bec' and will solve a couple of problems I haven't worked out yet. I really like being able to roll it all up and stow it instead of having boards to find good places to put it in the cabin. Thanks for sharing!
@SailingKateLouise
@SailingKateLouise Год назад
Great Buddy, I've just come back from Port Stephens and John on His Waller 5.4 had a similar hatch cover but it was made from clear PVC (sail windows). I think that was a really good idea as it lets light into the cabin and you can look at the stars to sleep. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
@greatsouthlandmike7260
@greatsouthlandmike7260 Год назад
Very interesting comparison. Thank you for showing the canvas hatch idea. With the hatch open does that allow you to move quite well forward of the cabin area for anchor work and whatever else might need attention from cabin safety?. I'm currently building a oughtred fulmar day boat with full forward access like the other stornaway that you showed us. Very beautiful boats. 🤠🇦🇺👍
@SailingKateLouise
@SailingKateLouise Год назад
Wow, are you near Sydney come sailing with us. Fulmar's are a great boat and fast with heaps of room. Yes my hatch allows you to reach the samsom post and tie off the anchor without walking on the deck. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul ps send me some photos of your build to sailingkatelouise@gmail.com

Paul, I love your RU-vid channel! First rate stuff! Great tour of your boat! I'm actually rewatching this evening, to steal (I mean 'get') ideas for my slot top cover. Just finishing up a 10' dinghy cruiser. Kate Louise's cuddy slot is very similar. Your cover is impressive! I'd love to join you & your buddies on a dinghy cruise, but I'm in The States.
@SailingKateLouise

Great video is always Paul. It was interesting to see you laying out your anchor buddy. I have one but in the past have trusted it to run between the chain and the road without doubling up. That changed when I discovered the rubber tubing has actually broken. And I'll have it set up the way you do and the way that I know is recommended :-). I'm curious if you ever have any issues with the doubled up portion when you deploy. It seems a bit messy. I've only been out once since to try and will play around with it but was curious as to your experience.
@SailingKateLouise
@SailingKateLouise Год назад
Hi Tim, Having been washed ashore as my anchor dragged once, ( before I got an anchor buddy and larger anchor) I'm very wary of putting all your eggs in one basket....in this case 8mm silicon tube. It is a bit messy having a loop but it does give a lot of reassurance. Also the fittings are supposed to be stainless but are rusting already. However I think the Anchor buddy is a great idea and works well, cheers Paul

Hi, I love your channel. I sail a Siren 17. Just a quick question. Why do you wire your batteries in series and then use a reducer as opposed to wire them in parallel?
@SailingKateLouise
@SailingKateLouise 20 дней назад
Hi I love the Siren 17 but never seen one in Oz. The Torqueedo needs 24 v but the cabin lights are on a second circuit that only needs 12v hence the reducer. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
@retiredfoxhound
@retiredfoxhound 20 дней назад
@@SailingKateLouise Thank you, I bought the air cooled Honda 2.3 HP outboard. Its a nice little engine but very noisy so we only ever run 1/4 throttle, Just enough to engage the centrifical clutch. That still gets the Siren up to 3 or 4 knots to get through the narrow channel out to where we like to sail.
