Have you flown a Kitfox? What do you think about the Lycoming engine instead of a typical Rotax?

@@feralchimp yeah because the overhaul cost on the O235 is really high! It’s cheaper or overhaul the O-320!

Rotax 912ULS is 125 lbs lighter compared to o-235. TBO of Rotax is 2000 hours though I know a fleet with 5000+ hours with top ends done at 2000. I'd take the Rotax for its weight and lower fuel consumption and keep the plane lite

That's the one I want, with the O-235. I don't want, or care for gear boxes. Just my personal preference.

I’ve had my eye on this very plane for quite a while. I love the Kitfox, but it’s just too expensive for me. I hope it finds a good owner.

Quick question, what are these aircraft like for cockpit leg room compared to say a Jabiru J170?

I’ve never been in a Jabiru, but I’m 6 ft and it’s fine. The adjustable pedals help.

As much as I love the Lycoming engine, the O235 is heavy for its power. For example the O320 is only 6 pounds heavier for about 50% more power! The Continental O-200 may have been a better choice for a 100 hp engine.

Well this plane produces 135HP, maybe a bit more. It does make the plane heavier for sure, but there are a lot of people that want old school Lycoming instead of the newer Rotax engines. It’s a personal preference, but amongst a lot of folks I know, they prefer the Lycoming.

@@Brian.Murray 135? The O235 is either 108hp, 115hp or if it’s the hopped up special one, it could be 125, but that’s not that common of an engine. I don’t know of any O235 that makes 135hp!

Indeed, they're rare! Its partly due to the electronic ignition, and it's the High compression variation of the engine. It also has a throttle body injection system instead of a classic carb. It's an estimate all around, but it's closer to 130-135.

I don’t know for sure what the final sale was but the asking was around $130k USD. I believe he got somewhere close to that.
