This rescue kitten is having trouble walking on his back legs. Follow along with us as we work with an animal neurologist to determine the cause and as we try desperately to find a solution.
September 12th, 2020. New Update on this kitten. I just examined him and while he is still 90% paralyzed in his back legs, he isn't getting any worse and he is happy and his new family describes him as a "cuddle bug". Yep! He has found his forever home yaaayyyy!!!! - Dr. Cliff

We found a cat today, couldn't use her back legs so we took her to the vet. They said the problem's not her legs probably somewhere different. There's a chance that she won't be walking any time soon but i want to adopt her. I'm trying to learn about how to take care of a cat like that. Please pray for her 🥺

@@sandeeppothula8095 I'm sorry your kitty was bit by a dog. It is possible that the injury had caused what is happening to her. Unfortunately, Nugget took a turn for the worst when he started having seizures and then one that he didn't seem to come out of. On that day the vet and I decided it was best for nugget and there wasn't much more we could do unless we were rich and had lots of money. It was a very sad day for us and I still miss him so much we put him down on October 16th 2021. Good luck with your kitten I will say this get pet insurance and don't take that don't take her to the vet until the wait period is up. Nugget wound up being a very expensive lesson in animal Care.

my 11 year old cat suddenly started. sliding back legs. nothing on x-ray. could be from a blood clot to back area. she purses. sooo much moves about eats. drinks. but. she has to just lay to body. I'm trying to learn all that I can to work with my Itsy Bitsy. Since I'm retired. I'm with her all the time for the most part. we could use prayers. she has a momma and a sister. I rescued them about 0 years ago. love her/them so much. so reading into all I can and she has a vet. I've used for years. no breaks on xrays

I have a cat with similar symptoms. The weakness in the back legs and all. I’d be interested in if Dr. Cliff could check back in with Tiny’s siblings and see if any of them are now showing similar symptoms. I actually had 3 out of 4 cats from the same litter and none of them had symptoms when I got them and they developed the symptoms at different times. One got sick with other issues and had to be put down and the second got bad enough that his quality of life was called into question and my mom made me put him down…. The third is still going… about 2 years with this issue now and he’s about 4 years old. The issues showed up in the first cat around 9months, the second around a little over a year and the third around 2 years. Because they’re siblings and it presented very similarly (though a bit different but I put that off on the kitties’ personalities and stubbornness) that it is indeed an in utero issue of some sort, but even with an autopsy…. Necropsy? I think it has a slightly different name for cats but anyway…. They weren’t able to give me any answers. So I just do the best I can for Kion, giving him the best quality for the longest amount of time I can. He’s a very stubborn boy and wants so badly to be able to climb and such. But I am interested in Tiny’s siblings to see if a similar thing happened… and to check in on Tiny as well. @Dr. Cliff

My cat has the exact same issue. Her tails hangs, she can make it 3 steps using her hind legs but it's unbalanced only in the rear. Her rear shifts and she falls. Then she'll just drag her rear or she'll lay in that until she gets her strength back. She was not always like this. It started shortly after her mother was spayed. It was very gradual. She walked normally, jumping, climbing and much as a kitten could right along with her litter mates. As she grew she started walking to the side as a kitten. But then she started leaning on the wall when she walked. Now is dragging her legs to make. Just recently one of her litter mates was spayed and now she's doing the same thing according to her owner. I did take her to the vet, they said she has wobbly cat . I've watched lots of videos of wobble cats. She is unbalanced or but not shacky. It's just her rear legs. She also much smaller in her rear. She vomit more than the average cat. She was able to jump onto the couch before now it's a struggle. I just don't feel like she was born this way. I strongly feel that whatever meds were giving to her mother. She got into her system through nursing. She's the sweetest kitten

We just found 3 tiny stray kittens (6 - 7 weeks?) dirty face and muddy, and one of them has exactly the same issues. Tail dragging on floor, and back legs seem weak and not quite working properly. It can move around, but falls over. I can't get close enough to touch him/her without getting bitten, so a vet assessment is difficult, but did trap her and she's in the bathroom now. So yay! Spirited for sure, but very afraid of me. The next few days will be telling. Thanks for this video though, it gives me hope!

Thank you!@@DrCliff You're a superstar! And can I just say, your offer of help is a Godsend for those of us in foreign countries, where sometimes language and cultural barriers are difficult. (Thai vets don't euthanize, for example. And often give antibiotics and expensive medication when unnecessary.) I'm very lucky to have a cat rescue lady coming today to pick up the kitten. She has access to vets, etc. here in Thailand. But a couple of times I've called vets in Australia just to ask them a question about a disease that's out of my league, and not all are willing to help! I have 13 rescue cats, rescue dog, the 3 kittens... and 'Scooter' is very far out of my league! But help is at hand! And your offer for advice is much appreciated. Thank you! You have a good heart. 🙏❤

I have an 8 week old kitten that I took in with 3 of its siblings and it's mom. I am spaying and rehoming all of them. His name is Butterbean, he looks a little like Tiny but with longer legs. His balance is not great but he can sort of bunny hop around. However, he is incontinent and his memory doesn't seem to be as good as his siblings. Initially, we thought it might be swimmers syndrome, but as it's progressed, my vet suspects it is neurological so I am going to have some tests done. I genuinely hope it's something physical, like his spine or legs. I can get him into surgery and fix those. With a neurological problem though, the diagnosis is often not so good. Bit devastated tbh. Hoping for a positive outcome with my little guy. He's a complete sweetheart and I just want to be able to give him a good life and a good home.

How is Tiny now? I am a shelter volunteer and foster in Connecticut. We currently have a 3 month old kitten who survived both roto virus and pan leuk then a pretty bad inflammatory process that pinched a nerve in her spine causing her hind legs to be weak and drag, also she got a bad bladder infection and started leaking urine which snowballed into scalding. One vet wanted to euthanize her but her foster mother refused and took her for a 2nd opinion. I do agree this kitten is a fighter, she was eating, drinking, playing and purring with ferocity and even though she had the scalding she didnt seem to act like it bothered her, it just looked awful. The 2nd vet prescribed menuka honey and with round the clock care expressing her bladder and keeping her dry she healed very well. My question is can she recover with PT or is the dragging permanent? She seems to have forgotten how to walk bc shes so adept and fast with dragging! She zooms around the room by dragging and shes fast! When we work with her to try and get her to walk in PT, she will do it but she gets annoyed bc shes like, "Why do this when dragging is so much easier!" But she has feeling and she can stand, her legs are just weak....I think its muscle memory loss and forgetting. These bacterial/fungal/viral infections out there in the feral colonies are horrific. Humans need to do better and spay and neuter their pets, and also every town needs a spay and neuter mandatory policy. T&Rs! There is no excuse not to do this. Same with dogs its getting out of control and the euthanasia rate of healthy adoptable animals is sickening especially in the southern USA. Thanks for reading. 🙏💜🐾

My cat has the same problem. He is 14 years old and 2 months ago started to eat less and do some vomit and diarrhea. After a short treatment vomit and diarrhea stopped but his appetite was still small. I have tried all kinds of food, he likes boiled chicken though. For the last 10 days his rear legs are weak. Vets think this is disorder (Ataxia is the greek word) I went to 2 vets and done all the blood tests which are ok according to his age. I'll try another vet too. Vets are not sure what the problem is, maybe it's neurological and one of them suggest a magnetic resonance and to get lymph node biopsy. Best regards Athens Greece

I rescued an 8 week old( guessing) kitten ( we named her Joy) about a week ago. Showing a lot of the same symptoms..no tail movement , dragging back legs , tho they do flicker and move when they are straight out behind her.. Went to a vet and he took X-rays , no broken bones , or injuries. He gave me a steroid and some pain killers for her. He also recommended holding her tail to help her walk ...ouch .. I just didn’t have peace with any of the findings or recommendations. ...it is not in my budget to have the ability to go to a specialist. I have been looking at videos and reading about a B-12 regiment..Desperately looking for some advice. Thank you for your video.

@@sandeeppothula8095 I don’t know if this will help but my cat has back leg lameness. She can walk but doesn’t have a lot of control. I read that giving them Lions Mane can be beneficial as it help regenerate damaged and dead nerves. Of course not all lameness is due to this but I thought I’d give it a try. About 150mg once a day and after 2 months I see noticeable improvement in her balance, coordination and strength. I will continue giving this to her for the rest of her life as there is marked improvement. I also take it myself daily because I have Multiple Sclerosis and Lions Mane is an excellent supplement as it helps my neurological system.

I have a kitten that its legs just seem to long. He doesn't seem to have any paralysis they just seem to long and it seems like he has to pull them to much to get up on them and walk but he totally uses them. It's just seems harder for him to get around due to the extra length of them. I just wonder if this is common and can b grown out of??? I call him my handicapped baby and I totally baby him and over protective. We cant afford any kind of surgeries or devices if becomes needed but I will do what it takes to keep him pain free and give him quality of life otherwise. I just hope it's a temporary thing for his sake
