I'm just getting to grips with the whole milling thing. Seen it done on a far smaller scale for earthmoving equipment, but this is on a whole other level. Blows your mind when you consider the weights and lengths and accuracy involved.

Watching it run is cool. I'm just trying to figure out, how do you measure something that big to know if its with-in tolerance? Big ass micrometer or height gauge?

This is not a large CNC lathe, There is one in Virginia, that holds 120 feet between Centers, the tailpiece is on a track, minimum weight it can hold is 35 Tons to be on center. It takes 2 flights of stairs to get up to the Tool holder, it can take 2" off on a side, that is 4" off the diameter at a time. If the chips hit you, they can kill you.

The Profiturn H from Waldrich Siegen is definitely a record-breaker. With a turning diameter of 7,000 mm, a workpiece length of 25,000 mm and a dead weight of over 400 tons, it is the largest lathe in the world for the company, which is part of the Herkules Group.

The largest operational lathe I have personally seen was 60" x 52 ft. Manufactured by Mauser.

The first roll is a steel mill, rolling mill backup roll. They are about 5 feet in diameter and weigh around 93,000 pounds. Usually the lathes are custom built and the tailstock is hydraulically loaded. You weigh the roll and tell the tailstock and it loads the center preload automatically. The purpose of these rolls is in a 4 high mill stand. 30" diameter rolls actually contact the steel and these are run above and below those roll to minimize deflection. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AuuP8L-WppI.html

Nice "Medium Size" Machine. You can only run parts between centers if the part is short enough NOT to run with a bow, otherwise it will destroy the centers!

Absolutely beautiful machining. Never put a $2,000,000 forging into the hands of an inexperienced machinist or without a Rock Solid Manufacturing Plan. It's Very hard for skilled Craftsmen in this area filled with Hacks from the School of Hard Knocks and nepotism. If you see the problems which are destroying Boeing you can easily guess my location.

CNC ist ja ein relativ junges Metallverarbeitungsverfahren! Aber Dreh- und Fräsmaschinen gibt es schon seit dem Auto- und Flugzeugbau Ende des 1900 Jahrundert. In einer ,,Bude" habe ich mich mal vorgestellt, eine Große Wohnug mit sicher 100 Maschinen aller Art. Bin lieber wieder weg...!😂 Kurt

Très belle pièce d'acier. Dommage que le caméraman soit aussi amateur. Très mauvais tournage vidéo et trop de prise de vues rapprochées. Ça manque de fluidité. Désolé !
