Thanks to Bescutter for sponsoring this video. Go to bescutter.com/ to learn more about their fiber laser cutters.
I've been wanting to see a metal cutting laser for a long time now. So when Bescutter offered to take me to their supplier factory in Jinan, China to see how they make these giant fiber laser cutters, and try one out, I jumped at the opportunity.

Every child knows about the basic concepts and principles of a basic laser system and a basic maser system based on a simple 1960s and 1970s design and upgraded to a modified DIY laser kit and maser kit. What happend to your so called superior American public education? Since you Americans boast of being a superpower militarily, then your public educational standards are also within a superpower standard too! So what happened!? In Japan, they do the same thing and they hammer knowledge into your heads. Like they use to say, hammer the steel into shape while it is still hot.

@@anglerandy5736 The safety glasses are for scattered light. With 1-12Kw of light concentrated in a 0.1mm spot, even at 1-2 meters, the scattering could damage your eyes. Fyi, since lamps for lighting are rated by wall power, that's like a 4-48Kw lighting system all in a 0.1mm spot. Think sports field lighting all converging on a tiny spot...
@MKhurramAziz
@MKhurramAziz 4 года назад
@@martylawson1638 The laser itself is infrared (anywhere from 1500 to 2500 nm) and as such the scattered IR radiation is not damaging to the eyes. I've worked with these cutters before and you can feel the IR Radiation on your skin (as heat) but can't see the scatter. By comparison, blue laser cutters (i.e. diode laser cutters) are much much more dangerous - even though they are very low power (1-10 watts)
@martylawson1638
@martylawson1638 4 года назад
@@MKhurramAziz Have you confirmed the laser frequency? Best of my knowledge if the fiber laser is putting out more than 50W it's almost certainly a fiber Nd:YAG or Nd:Glass laser. Those are most efficient at 1064nm and 1060nm. At both wavelengths your eye is transparent and will focus any scattered light. Also, the safety glasses would be almost clear for a 1550 or 2500nm laser instead of the dark tint shown in the video.

Awesome stuff Scotty, thanks for sharing! You see, this is the sort of stuff most people thinking about China has no idea of and still think the country is behind tech wise and whatnot. Most consumers end up thinking only about the final consumer products that they are buying as if they came up to existence by magic, but they have no idea about all these industrial level equipment that makes high volume production possible... plus the entire enormous and crazy level infrastructure and logistics that is behind all the modern tech stuff we consume. There's a whole ton of technology development in these areas that China has that the rest of the world simply doesn't. It's some amazing stuff behind the scenes that we don't get to see or know much about. So again, thanks for sharing Scotty. It's cool stuff and all, but I think more importantly, it demystifies and uncovers information that's important for people to kill some misconceptions and just incomplete ideas mainstream has around these things. A lot of stuff that goes on between raw materials and getting an actual product that we conveniently ignore that needs companies like that to come into fruition.

Strange Parts in 16:00 it clean To be fair, every heavy factory in the world was dirty 👌

Also at 16:00 that is the assembly area which is a lot easier to keep clean than the fabrication side which is virtually impossible.

Chinese has always had the stigma of cheap price poor quality. Everytime i watch a video from strange parts in a chinese factory it reassures me of they actually do some incredible things. Everything is so clean and precise! Actually puts some of our factories to shame!

Yeah, cheap Chinese knock-offs is an old way of looking at China, they make amazing things, they innovate, and they still do it cheaper than the west. Tariffs won't save us from hard work & innovation, we're going to have some catching up to do.

Yes, if you pay cheap price, you only get poor quality.

Yes and all of the things including the lasers are made in USA xD. Nothing has changed except some there are getting richer so they use some made elsewhere

You can't tell me the handle idea wasn't intentional from the start. I mean you had to purposely not add the handle just so you could show off the other machines right? If not then thats some insane luck because it worked so well. Also these videos almost have a slight propaganda feel to them because this reminds me of a US factory and made me think "if I needed to buy a laser cutter I would go with these guys" when normally I associate Chinese products with cheaper garbage, free hong kong, but this makes me question that line of thinking/association.

No, it did come about organically as we were talking about it. Some bits we had to recreate for camera though, as this ended up being a pretty challenging environment to shoot in. I was originally planning on just taking it over to the guys in the welding shop to have them mig weld it, and then they mentioned they had a laser welder, so of course I couldn't pass up a chance to try it...

Why is it so cold inside the factory and showroom? Everybody was wearing coats!
@MrCODEmaster00
@MrCODEmaster00 4 года назад
Helps keep heat waste down if you already have a colder room for lots of electronics, plus China is cold place in Winter. Whether just lack of A/C for Demo Room, and a factory where assembly takes place OR keeping the waste heat down, it's practical.

17:10 - the gain medium of a fiber laser is optical fiber. There's a whole bunch of it twirled up in that box. It is also carried out to the cutting head via a fiber but the name for the technology comes from the fact that light is amplified in a optical fiber.

Did you stand next to a class IV laser while it was working? That’s like taking a smoke in a gunpowder factory. Not only it goes against every safety regulations I can think of, but I have harsh words against the plant for allowing it.
