I miss my GTR very much. I used to own R32 GTR around 1990 to 1996 in Japan. I modified a lot. When I moved to the U.S.A, I wanted to bring mine but dmv required proof of crash tests for 3 GTRs. So I gave up. I am glad now many people talks about GTR in the world! I put some pictures in my channel. And also I owned a 240sx(SR20DET) in Seattle in 1997 - 1999. You can see my channel about tab.

this is hysterical. i just bought a 90 GTS-4 sedan and it's ALL GTR from the windshield forward; a legit Japanese conversion! N1 bumper, headlights + hoodlip. 23U block - it's a very old build with T78 and tomei/Greddy everything. there's an oil cooler stuffed into the passenger wheel well, battery relocated to the trunk, 5 Greddy gauges in a row mounted to the dash and OF COURSE a boost controller unit double sided sticky taped under the driver footwell. below 4k rpms it's absolutely gutless.. i was thinking, "what's the big deal with these GTRs? they're slow.." i boosted it and it was breaking up hard (stock coils).. did some research and got a PRP R35 coil conversion kit and some legit NGK race plugs from Nengun Japan rated 8 cold.. next time i drove it was with my wife and i boosted it in 2nd gear - her coffee literally leapt out of its cup onto her! the depictions in this video are 100% accurate of the old school builds that are tried + true with parts that were made to LAST. i recently inquired about tuning with the car's old MoTec standalone and was turned down as nobody knew how to tune something so old. i'vetestament

i've realized that the car has lasted this long as it is and i should just leave this Japanese build as a time capsule and testament of Japanese car culture that im lucky to have!

Ugh that thing is so nice it hurts. Edit: you are right about those 90's early 00's turbos it was boy or boil baby. Now with twin scroll, titanium internals, ceramic coated full ballbearing turbos and the cars have anti-lag they spool so quick. Gotta love that skill it takes to keep the engine in power and to not kill yourself when the boost hits like a hammer halfway through the turn.

True good comment, but to a certain degree nothing beats the adrenaline rush of a huge old skool turbo kick in hard form nowhere😆

Haha appreciate the love :D Some back-end changes here at RU in 2021 pushed the manual swap back a bit. It has a few small issues. Hoping to do some more videos with it this winter and update y'all.

Yuuuuup, just like mine, lol. 6k RPMs and it finally comes in hot. I wouldn't say it's "perfect" for street, cause it's gutless below 5.5k and it can be annoying. Accelerating quickly in 3rd gear doing 35mph? haha, good one. but it's like driving an explosion and that's a lot of fun. :)

only an American would say a 20 year old turbo is good. the new garrets and PT turbos come on full boost at around the high 3k to low 4k rpm mark even with a 700hp turbo.

The fun is when the oldschool turbos kick in they kick in hard. They make for very fun turbos even if they are much slower than modern stuff

@@lockjawjak I''m gonna take u don't own a turbo car or a high hp turbo car. Turbo lag is horrible. A car coming on full boost before 4000rpm is a dream. The car kicks around and its actually more enjoyable and driveable than a lazy old school turbo

@@lennixsingh626 I own a 400whp MA70 so not a very fast car but its fun. And yes I would generally always go for a moden turbo but you gotta admit those old 1000hp supras back in the day were insane when they finally hit boost-pretty much undrivable but insanely fun! It gives them real character. It is all about the power band ayway, whats the point of full boost before the engine is even spinning fast enough to make decent power, if you dont spool properly till 5k but rev to 8.5k, there is still plenty of room to keep it in boost and have fun. The modern OEM turbos on most cars that "make full torque by 2000rpm" are so insanely boring, I got given a vvti1jz swapped ma70 last month and its a complete bore to drive compared to my Turbo A with its tiny turbo that is always in boost from 5% throttle! Granted that is the complete other end of the spectrum of boost response but some people like the tiny turbo feel, and some love the big oldschool units that dont spool till 5k :)

@@lennixsingh626 not everyone wants to boost here and there, I like my 2jz to make top rpm power, my t88 kick hard around 6k rpm all the way to 9k rpm

@@gulamnabi506 A Turbo doesn't shift where your powerband is like a cam. The Fiffrence between turbos is how soon they come on and the power they make. boost coming on at 6K rpms is horrible.

Absolutely love this car but he HAS to update it, it is unfair to leave it like this for "period correctness" get a newer turbo and ecu and it will change the car completely.

He's currently in the process or rebuilding the engine as we speak haha. Perhaps we can convince him to go ball bearing and bring up the response a bit.
