It is possible the battery inside the Energy Storage unit is dead, it is 14 years old after all. Also any Power Functions motor should be able to generate power if you crank it, it's not an exclusive feature of the E motor.

Those batteries are NiCad (Nickel Cadmium,) they require you to charge them on the wall to 100 % then discharge them to 0% BEFORE using renewable charging or else you destroy the cells and it won't hold a charge.

Its actually so cool that LEGO has made sets like this, it almost opens a whole new world of possibilities with LEGO 😃 Also, great video man, informative and entertaining 👌👍

Any motor can generate electricity, the E-motor was just designed to do so more efficiently than other LEGO motors. Unfortunately it's actually pretty crap as a motor, doesn't have good torque or speed or size, so it's a good thing it's better than any other motor at being a generator, it's otherwise pointless to use. As for the on switch, I'd try holding it down for a bit, kinda like how NXTs need a second to turn on. The orange dial probably controls polarity, and having it in the center is a "stop" position, which is probably why you couldn't get it to do anything.

At my old high school we had 6 of those sets and 6 pneumatic sets btw I was in the support unit that is why we don’t have many. The number in the middle of the screen is the charge percentage. And the pneumatic set you need to find that out on your own :) have fun.

6:30 the big gear is a 40 tooth and the small is the 8 tooth so the ratio is 1:5 or one rotation of the 40 is 5 rotations of the 8

You missed something. The battery is so old, it is uselessly dead. The battery is deceased. You need to replace it.

i'm in middle school and we used to have these until a pipe had busted above were all the electrical Lego sets were and they were all destroyed (it was in 2015) now we have these wimpy Lego robots and in one of the missions it was supposed to lift a bar to release a energy unit but the robots were so weak that they couldn't lift the bar i can't find a correct photo online but i remember is is the Lego spike prime

Every Lego motor is actually a E motor. Test it. Two lego motors connected. Works.

If you connect an old style square motor directly to another one it can turn the second motor as you turn the first one. My son made a crane control using this method.

All I can do is rather reccomend Fischertechnik, they even have Hydrogen storage using Fuel Cells.

You know what if you took the solar panel off and attached the windmill to the top of the car instead so if you were to push it to get the windmill spinning or spin the windmill with a little starter setup to get the windmill spinning the car would prob move faster therefore spinning the windmill faster. Faster the windmill = more energy generated faster and the faster the windmill goes the faster the car goes and the way to stop it could be to replicate a disk brake setup but on the windmill somewhere so when you need to stop some sort of lego rubber peice could be pressed up against a lego disk and then it would slowly slow it down until it stops moving This was just an idea i had i thought would be a cool video idea 😂
