Dear Ghosts,
The 23mm f2 has been my workhorse lens for the past 2 years. It’s served me well. For photos, the 23mm f1.4 LM is much better but for video I’m kinda on the fence. I think this lens is softer and will give you a more organic image. A big characteristic is that this lens looks better as you stop down since it is never too sharp. I'd even say some of my favorite shots are at 5.6 or f11 so this lens is ideal when you want to shoot outdoors and you don't like NDs. This is probably the best value lens you can get and it’s definitely a recommend for anyone especially with an XT camera. The LM lenses on my xt3 always felt awkward and front heavy. I guess if I had to compare this lens with another lens, it’d be similar to a contax Zeiss. I also think it matches quite well with my Otus because of the contrast. On the xh2s, I think tracking should be 0 and speed -3 should give you pretty good results, in the short film I used -5 speed, a bit slow at times.
Regarding music I made slightly edgier tracks this week, I think it could offend maybe 10% of you but I just enjoy thriller and horror theme. I upgrade to Logic Pro so I’ll be able to make more cinematic tracks coming up. I also changed mic position and EQ so you might notice more clarity in the voiceover, but may be lacking some intimacy and oomph, what do you guys think? The B roll is evolving, I have other ideas to incorporate for future videos and I’m excited since I have a good vision on how I want to do macro in the future. I am almost certain that I will get egregious banding on this video because of YT compression but I hope it’s not too devastating (edit: Yup, it is). Normally I would have gone harder on the color grade for the short film but I think it’d be pointless as I already made it brighter than I would have liked for RU-vid. I shot day for night to get less noise, which is really easy, just add some blues and cyans to the shadows and lower the highlights. Hopefully I’ll get less noise and less banding when uploading but I’m so skeptical. I’ll be uploading to Vimeo once my monthly limit resets in case you want to better see what the original quality looks like.
The short film is based off Little Nightmares 2, one of the most artistic video games. Mono has been trapped and slowly loses his sanity. I hope to make a part 3 in the future for the climatic reunion. Chili will be done with classes next week and so that’s why you only have me. I have some cool films planned for the future so stay tuned but you can always give me a suggestion on any topics.
Moving forward I hope you guys can support me as I like making videos but it’s a bit tough to make one every week. I’d ideally like to make more content but I think most people wouldn’t watch me just making regular content and talking heads. I’m also curious what you guys think of the music and audio, Im considering building an audio and music library for people to use. The only reason I started making these tracks is because I couldn’t find a suitable theme and one of my hard work videos got removed. I hope you guys never have to experience that.
