Hey man, if you ever wanna learn actual armor terminology lmk. Also, a lot of armor doctrine, maintenance manuals, and other miscellaneous things are publicly available online. For the US army, they're called "training manuals". Had to offer as soon as I heard you call RPGs "held munitions" and not "shaped charges" 😂

In case anyone is wondering, in order to accelerate a 29mm caliber rod to penetrate 500.000mm of standard quality iron plate, you would need the energy equivalent of 19,06 kilograms of TNT of propelenat. For reference, The KV-2 HE shell had an explosive filling of around 5,83kg TNT equivalent, so firing the 29mm would be the equivalent of dentonating almost 3,3 KV-2 HE shells inside the tank. Please note this is napkin maths and may be orders of magnitude wrong.

Yep, the shell would pretty much take the form of a micrometeorite and disintegrate midair, although it would probably never happen considering that much propellant would rather disintegrate anything around it

remember that this is a railgun, meaning there's no actual explosion, just acceleration along a rail to speeds that will probably delete anything shy of nanomaterial

Question about not hitting at long ranges, have You considered that guns and gunner sight are not aligned (Gunner looks a bit to the right compered to gun)? When aiming there is this default 300m range and I believe that if it would be set to 1000m ("-" or "=" keybind) long range hits would be more frequent.

Modern tanks uses Composite armour which is mostly steel, other types of metals you sandwich together and some have open spaces as well. The Japanese Type-10 uses Nano-crystals.

In a future video, how about an 'Atom-punk' tank, something like the, as yet unnamed, US Army Tank seen in Fallout 4 and 76. There are a great deal of 'Tank of the Future' concepts from the early atomic age, most of which are, frankly, ludicrous, but they make for fun thought experiments.

You should do like generations of tanks again, but instead of making one tank and upgrading it to the Era, you should do something kinda like panzer I, II, III, IV where they are different tanks but built off the flaws of the previous design. To make it more challenging or fun you could address only one issue at a time so you have to prioritize armor, speed, or weapon damage depending on the era. (Try 2)

Overall shape and concept very much reminds me of the Rheinmetall Lynx 120 fire support vehicle, it's basically a 120mm version KF51 Panther turret design on the hull of the KF41 Lynx IFV. oh and the BF2042 Railgun tank that I imported the model of into Sprocket and made functional, mine only has ~450mm of pen tho 😅

Hey I have a video suggestion here have you tried storm works with the search and destroy dlc because with the dlc it allows you to not only make tanks but any military vehicle and make the subsystems, auto loaders, engine systems etc I think you might like it! (Made this at 2am on a Friday bought so that probably didn’t make sense but eh)

It's totally meaningless, at that kind of velocity 'APHE' is a joke - it's not going to have time to detonate. Fortunately that's just fine, because it's going to instantly vaporize on impact, with a yield far greater than any non-nuclear explosive could hope to achieve. (And... by weight, the nuke might be in for some competition). The penetration is probably an overstatement, hypervelocity impacts tend to relatively *decrease* in penetration as velocity goes up, limited to approximately the length of the penetrator itself. On the other hand, that's based on experiments with velocities in the 2-3 km/s range, not 50 km/s+, though it's safe to say anything coming out the back is no longer solid.

you could have made all the armor on your tank alot heavier so that you weigh more because then less flipping chance by recoil and you already have such high speeds but i think medium speed and heavy armor plus that crazy penetration would be a nightmare

After some math to find the volume of the shell (volume of a cylinder 29x5926mm), 1.03 gallons of gunpowder is used in game to shoot the projectile. I'm not sure how much that would weigh. Maybe somewhere around 3-4 kg?

The kinetic energy for this tank is unreal, assuming Patch Bits did not change anything Ke = 1/2 * (375.3/68)kg * (557,834^2)m/s= 8.587*10^11 J so 858.7 Gigajoules of energy.(8.59*10^11J/4.184*10^9J/ton) That is the same energy as 205.2 tons of TNT equivalent so about 1 % of the TNT of a light nuclear bomb of 20 Mton of TNT equivalent.

My man, the Puma is the primary IFV of the Bundeswehr, and has been for a while now. yeah 500 meters of pen is basically if you took a like 2 battleships and put them end to end and made them out of straight up steel with no rooms, entirely solid and you just straight up penetrated through that..... yeah that gun doesn't fuck around
