They might get in trouble over some of the icons and desktop images. But the real test is how it handles software installation. It's the broad amount of software supported by Windows that makes it so popular, especially the non-business software.

I see the idea with LinuxFX but it should not look like Windows 10 because a new user will get really confused and treat it like Windows not Linux then complain that it not doing what their Windows box works.

Something like this would be great for a first time Linux user. I think people tend to forget how little in the ways of the user interface Windows has actually changed. You can jump straight from Windows '95 to Windows 10 and still easily find most of what you need. The Windows UI is just comfortable for many people. So being able to use a version of Linux that operate much the same and has familiar icons for common things is a great idea. I wonder though how often do you need to use the terminal in Windows FX? As I've discoevred that having to type commands for things does put many people considering linux off.

It's also amusing to have the "cortana" bit be named "hello-a", since windows' automatic login thing (using security keys or fingerprint sensors) is called "Windows Hello"

Windows themed Linux never really been my thing. I do like the wine integration however, i feel like that is an obvious area for improvement on many desktop environments. From my experience, you don't need to make Linux look like windows to make it accessible to the PC novice. Ive had both Xfce and Gnome on my moms PC for years and before that she used Windows for well over a decade. She picked it up immediately and its been a breeze to maintain. Also the benefit of running Linux is its almost impossible for her to install any malware or bloatware ;-). Sorry to hear about your health struggles, glad you are on the mend.

About a month ago I installed LinuxFx onto my mother's work computer because the real Windows was eating up her drive bandwidth. She adapted so quickly and I will never regret making the switch to LinuxFx. We did have some trouble getting software to run under Wine and such but overall it's the most noob friendly distro I've encountered.

Just try mapping a network drive, never found that to be simple on linux, but hats off all the same this is a superb effort overall

As for this distro and your review, I think it's very interesting, but I do think you are correct in wondering why MS hasn't sought it out yet. Last, I still do not get why developers are so fascinated to do Linux clone or look alike distros, it's Linux. Isn't the reason users dominantly move to Linux is because they are fed up with Windows in the first place? In fairness, I would like to think it's simply because they can. I hope it's a real replacement. Windows 10 will be out of support in 3 years and Windows 11 being locked to newer systems means most including myself will be switching.

I would have thought the Windows assets would be taken from various remastered creative-commons Windows 10 icon packs that have been around for many years. There are also Mac OS remastered open-source assets too. People have been using those packs to manually make their Linux look like this for many years. Don't think they would face legal action for that. Maybe for calling it WindowsFx though.

So, you're a veteran now, huh? Happy to hear you surived. Legionnaires disease is really serious stuff. Also, this is the second vid I watch off of your channel. Did not know what you look like, but now I do understand why you have the metal intro! Loving it! I have no interest in running a Linux that looks like Win10. Ubuntu has a lot of things wrong with the UI, but it does the job. I'd rather go for Mint or Manjaro, if I did not have to use Ubuntu for (older) ROS versions.

I'm really excited to try it. So happy to hear that finally we regular peoples will be able to get used to with Linux. If this developers keep updating this Linux distribution then i think this will be the first choice of all the beginners of Linux and get stick with this in the future too. First of all, hearty congratulations on a successful recovery! Sorry for the long post but I have seen this distro getting bashed by a number of RU-vidrs (not that you are doing so here) and I need to vent a little. Windows 10 has become a real problem with the catastrophic nature of recent update cycles, and any alternative to that is no probably no bad thing. For ppl who have little to no idea about computers and who just need to use a browser, email etc., and the limited spectrum of Windows software that actually runs on this distro, then a locked down version of this could work quite nicely - especially compared to, say, your computer bluescreening or even losing data because "Windows update". As you have indeed picked out, the updates on windowsfx are seamless. At the end of the day, it is still Linux, isn't it? And anyone making the conscious decision to move from Windows will have already grasped this fundamental concept, no matter the skinning. Regardless, imagine if the argument had won years back that there would be "no point" in considering Linux simply because KDE and GNOME looked a whole lot like Windows / Mac interfaces? Where would Linux on the desktop be now? Certainly not where we are with this distro, which to a certain functional extent is a drop-in replacement for Windows 10. The only major negative I see is if unscrupulous folk reselling computers actually dupe people into believing they have just bought a fully usable Windows 10 machine. But we had a similar problem with pirated copies of Windows for years (which Windows 10's unactivated functionality has admittedly probably knocked back to very low levels by now), but the logical answer to that wasn't to stop wanting to use the genuine OS in question. OK, end of "vent"! :) Good luck for a full return to your passions!

I became an Ubuntu user almost 2 years ago after my 2nd install of Windows crashed, and I never looked back. Ubuntu can be a pain sometimes when installing software using the terminal. Ubuntu 21.04 is pretty good. However, I'm still used to dragging icons from folders to desktop, which you can't do directly on Ubuntu. I'm super Glad that you're feeling better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does this version support the same array of software as Ubuntu, and is it easier to use than Ubuntu?

Microsofts Design is not really something that deserves copying. They are gonna sue them for using the Icons. Nice video. Good to hear that you are OK now.

Gaud! I haven't used Windows in about 10 years... I operate Linux Mint and had no difficulty getting used to it. There are a few things that I miss so I bought a copy of Windows XP to run on a Linux VM and with it, a lot of old software that I haven't been able to use in years... Having said all of that I am intrigued to see LinuxFX... I had never heard of it, until this video... Great job! :-)

Wow, getting a correct pneumonia diagnosis during the Wuhan Pneumonia hysteria is a miracle...glad you survived to bring us this video. I've had my Lubuntu looking exactly like Windows 95/NT4 for several years/LTS versions now...if I want a more modern look I can swap in the Jazzy for no apparent reason XP theme + icons. Not sure I'd want to downgrade to a Windows 10 theme, to which I have to add Open Shell to avoid Metro launcher annoyance and then greatly customize explore.exe and such to get a usable experience...Although a better integrated Wine has me very intrigued. My favorite desktop by far is trinity desktop environment, standard in Q4OS and my desktop of choice when I'm on slackware workstations. But ReactOS is a beautiful Windows 2000 like experience, I'd love to see a LinuxFX native windows application compatibility comparison.

Really has that bootleg Windows 10 feel because there are parts that look nothing like Windows 10. Would rather have stock GNOME or KDE rather than this horrible design
