Thank you for helping me to make peace with my neighbor! I'm a 68-year-old lifelong TREE HUGGER. I bought my home 25 years ago,, largely because it is surrounded by lovely trees. I spend a lot of time in my beautiful, peaceful backyard. Two years ago a young man bought the house next door. He chopped down almost every tree on the property. My soul cried every time I heard the hideous screech of his chainsaw. Then he brought in a sawmill. I was so angry that I had to listen to him "murder " the trres. Then I found your youtube channel. Your appreciation of the wood is simply joyful! I love watching you splash water to inspect and savor the unique beauty of each slab! Watching you really helped me to see my noisy neighbor in a new light. Thank you!

Spoken like a true wood turner. With a huge tree trunk in front of him waiting to be slabbed he pulls out one of the cutoffs and says it will make great bottle stopper blanks. Got to love that!

At a minimum it would probably be 6 months before a table could be started... Proper drying and wood stabilizing needs to be done first. I'm on board with a translucent epoxy... Maybe add some fiber lights to highlight the smaller voids.

You’ve seen it a thousand times already, or at least some variation of it. Cut off a few random pieces to make it look natural, fill in the negative spaces with an unnatural colored epoxy, throw some pre fabbed black steel legs on it and call it a day.

As an artist, I really love the appreciation of the natural wood. A fad in computer "design" is to tack wood on the cabinet. But their understanding of "wood" is printed "woodgrain" on plastic. Please send some 4"x8"x¼" pieces with actual character to Gamers Nexus so they can see what wood really is.

I think an epoxy covered slab desktop with the log-slice natural outer edge contour would make an amazing desk. It would be a cause of desk envy for sure! Simple sturdy legs at each end are all that'd be needed, the slab is the star!

The curly "rotten Bananas" stuff is improvised jazz, and the solid with occasional curls and burls is "classical" (through composed) music and through composed jazz. That, and all sorts in-between. The analogy is really clear.

I knew a family that lived in the Ann Arbor area in southern Michigan, when they moved north to Charlevoix, they brought 21 slabs cut for tables 4 inches thick from a 6 foot black walnut stump, he had 80 acres of black walnut forest that he held onto when he moved, This was 47 years ago, most of the small trees had some parasite he couldn't bring any of that up but the slabs were finished and he brought those. The infested trees he could sell for fire wood or gunstocks ,but the latter had to be clear seasoned wood. He came north and totally changed his career path to real estate sales, his youngest son picked up where he left off. I'm 70 years old and I can't remember his name it's been 35 years since I saw him.

Guys, I've been watching your videos for a while now and wonder if you've been in contact with any custom gunmakers? Some of the pieces that aren't efficient for furniture production might be just what a custom flintlock rifle needs to set it off. To a sawyer, who's business is mainly to get as much usable lumber out of a tree/log as possible, for the most part aren't interested in such biproduct. If they are, it will most likely be related to firewood they can sell or even use themselves. Very few sawyers will go out of their way to seek out artists or specialty furniture makers to sell these sort of pieces to, and this is completely understandable because it takes time and also adds more tasks to their already very busy daily life. You pick one thing to do for a living, do it well and focus on it. It's really up to the artists and specialty creators to be the ones seeking out local sawyers to find pieces like this, and take the risk spending the money to buy them, and often youll probably get some nice pieces for free from a sawyer, until they figure out there's money to be made from them.
