I heard this song in the 00s and just didn't fully understand. However, I came off my fentynal patches last june after 10 years of using them and destroyed a 13 year relationship. It really rings true on how you feel about yourself and how you want others to see/feel about you too. Still in the struggle, every day.

This was a great reaction, but I think part of the reason why it got so few views is probably because the title of the song was accidentally mislabeled. It lists Blue October "Blue October." Should be Blue October "Hate Me."
This is the one song I wish I could've played for my mother. She stayed beside me through overdose, substance abuse, criminal charges and positive pregnancy tests. She kept me upright when she couldn't even walk. I wish she would've hated me. It would've made everything easier.
This is the first song that got me interested in Justin furstenfeld , who is blue October, that was 3 years ago (the song is from 2000, I believe), I was 55 .. I now own every album of blue October and Justin furstenfeld .. this song is also done acoustically, as many of his songs are done this way .. I would recommend The Worry List or I Hope Your Happy or Fear just about anything really .. he is truly a gifted artist and Has a style that isn't like anything else
I knew this song was a recovery song. After listening to y’all’s reaction I did a little bit of research. The pressure of fame and attention, however, nudged Furstenfeld into a downward spiral of alcohol abuse and drug addiction that cost him his first marriage, led to an ugly custody battle over a daughter and threatened his career. His daughter’s name is Blue!
This upcoming March will be my 2 years clean from Crack cocaine. Everytime I hear this song, it reminds me of how thankful I am to have been able to make things right with my mom and my family before it was too late.
He wrote this song for his mom and his recent ex-girlfriend at the time, b relationships that eventually fell apart due to addiction to drugs. He had rebuilt his relationship with his mom, and she plays herself throughout the flashbacks in the video.

The voice recording was a real recording from his mom. He’s talked about being suicidal when he was young and now he’s such mentor for young people dealing with depression and mental illnesses. It's a lot easier to hate than it is to grieve. It wasn't his mom that died. If you listen closely and watch the video carefully you'll realize it was him and he wants her to get over him.
