Same here, plus, we also missed which politicians plan on "heading their own advice" to do their part on reducing emissions, by giving up thier jets and flying comercial airlines, which would not only be an (alleged) win/win for the enviroment, this would also be a win/win for all tax payers since a reduction in politician's priviate jet expenses, would also reduce government spending!

Not forgetting the private yachts, limos, jaccuzzis, heated/standard swimming pools, refrigerators for cooling their champagns, aircon and heating units,etc, etc. The list goes on! Just on the yachts, these boats have automatic electrical driven systems like powered awnings, big video screen, master bed, etc, which run on energy. This energy is generated by that diesel generator in the bowels of the yacht and runs throughout the voyage.

I do not know if it was reported in Europe, but a few months ago an Amish farmer was raided and threatened with bankruptcy by the Dept. of Agriculture for selling meat to his local customers that had not been certified by the government. Nobody got sick, nothing bad happened, just the government protecting the big guys.

The farmer was selling his product across state lines which triggered the federal government action. No one was harmed, as you stated, purchasing the food that they wanted to eat and feed their families. It was a vile act committed by multiple federal and state government agencies. From my ~200 square foot garden, I was able to supply our family and two others with all of the tomatoes they cared to eat. I grew other things as well but they really wanted our tomatoes. Even sharing, we had enough tomatoes to freeze for the winter.

As a small farm owner, I understand what they are doing by putting out such articles, so they can build up enough 'evidence' based on the title of the article, and not in the reading material, so they can influence non agriculture based people into thinking small farms and home growing of food should be illegal, and only megafarms should be growing and selling foods. Those non agriculture people are our elected representatives, and they vote on laws that effect the entire nation as to who can, and how they can, grow food. And the regular people who don't know about food and food processing, will think it is OK for the lawmakers to make such idiotic laws!

Still, I find it funny that only a few years ago, articles about home grown food would have been much more favorable and encouraging (at least in the uk). Hell, there used to be regular TV shows dedicated to home gardening.

@@steves1015 Correct, it was a sign of a well fed and self supporting group that could and did their own gardening. Not only did you control the pests the healthy way, you also limited the poisons you used to do it. But if I were to start talking about the health benefits of certain foods, lessons learned over centuries of growing and eating food, I could get into big trouble saying anything about citrus and scurvy and other benefits, as I am not a doctor or nutritionist, and could be sent to jail for it.

My garden brought back frogs that had disappeared... it brought ladybugs... monarch butterflies... humming birds... praying mantis... wild song birds... everything around turned green and healthy... better breathing... cooler air... healthier plants... an absolutely noticeable difference from my garden... on top of that the honey bees returned and replaced the hornets and yellow jackets.

There's a military saying regarding "averages": 'one size, fits none'. Average values are nice, but they aren't useful in making specific implementations efficient. And I sincerely doubt these researchers went ahead and cloned every plant from every garden they surveyed, and measured its carbon production. Cause that would require actual effort, something you must avoid if you want to be a well respected academic it seems.

Even recycling is a scam. German reporters recently found evidence that only 10% of the contents of recycling bins were actually recycled. The rest was sent to China where it was simply buried or dumped in the sea. Plastic company's have been funding "recycling" initiatives for 30 years so that they can sell more plastics instead of reverting back to glass and other reusable packaging 👍

In addition, plants INHALE co2 and EXHALE oxygen, which all animals and humans need to stay alive. Simple grade school photosynthesis! 90% of earth's co2 is suspended in the oceans. Erupting volcanoes put more co2 into the atmosphere in a short period of time than humans' minute effects on co2 levels.

You made an exceptionally good point. You do not get more CO2 out of a plant than goes into the plant. You don't get more CO2 out of a cow than goes into the cow.

Not really true, cows convert fixed carbon from grass into fresh carbon dioxide. Methane is actually a bigger problem, but apparently there's a seaweed that solves that problem. It just needs to become a worldwide distribution for everyone ranching cattle.

@@anonygent When you manage your cattle and pasture properly, you have a net gain in sequestered carbon because the plants mass is denser and the root mass is denser. The root mass also penetrates deeper into the ground. Cattle can make pastures healthier if they're managed properly.

What a Joker of an article! My small garden doesn't have raised beds, have 5 Blueberry bushes, many kilos in my freezer. Other small growing fruit trees as well. Often grow other greens, and have not used artificial fertiliser. My garden store shed is pine, saving rain water whenever possible! At 84yrs will continue my home style natural effort. Many years a widow, keeping active! 👍🇦🇺

Tomatoes at our local grocery are $4.69 for a three pack. They are not really medium size and they are not organically grown. I generally grow and give away two to three hundred pounds of tomatoes every year. It gives me pleasure to help other families.

G'day Lilly, I've planted a thousand hardwood trees the first lot was in 1991 I started selectively thinning for the first time last year, They're milled into timber posts and rails that will last another fifty years storing the carbon they've already sequestered. My ninety year old mother who is a third generation orchardist noticed that certain fruit seeds that she tries to propagate don't strike, I had to explain that they've some how been manipulated to stop you from growing them, she asked in her old Australian way "why would they do that ?"

The majority of "modern fruit" has been developed through genetic accidents or discoveries. Or they are hybrids. Take seedless citrus fruit, seedless grapes and cavendish bananas... very very rarely do you get a seed, but if you do and try to germinate it, it won't grow because it is in effect a "mutant" seed. Not viable. Modern fruit trees are clones and are grafted.

We have a natural bug spray and compost. We put all our garden in a field that had nothing but sand and we added a ton of great soil. Suspicious indeed! My mother had a garden every year when I was growing up. All it cost her was the packets of seeds she wanted to grow. We children did all the work, gardening and watering the plants. When the plants ripened, we picked them, washed and prepared them for canning. Truth be told, they tasted better than the food we bought from the grocery. You're wise to grow your own vegetables and fruits. The cost of food is rising way too much!

But in the United States, if you get on your computer and ask about registering your vegetable garden with the USDA, the USDA will tell you how to do it. Because they really want to help you. The USDA is short for the United States Department of Agriculture. Generally, when the government gets involved, things become more difficult.

I've found that the sort of person who writes articles like this also tells me that my fireplace is bad because of the small particle emissions. When I counter that wood is a CO2 neutral fuel, and that since we live in a rural area small particle emissions are not a big problem, I find out that CO2 is no longer important in this discussion and that I am a bad person for not accepting what I am told.

We grow a large garden and use no pesticides or fertilizer. We often do not till. We grow from seeds, some we have saved. The only gasoline we use is if we pickup a load or two of hay and barnyard waste from a friend with sheep. It’s a 10 mile round trip. I cannot believe our carbon I printed is larger than a behemoth agri business!

There is NO true food shortage. From my small backyard garden I harvested enough seeds to give some of EACH plant to every house in our neighborhood (~200 homes). We were on the HOA board at one point so that is how I know how many homes are in the neighborhood. If each of our neighbors planted those seeds they would have been able to harvest ~20% of their needs for corn, beans, tomatoes, carrots, lettuce and onions (I know I am missing a couple of vegetables).

I use old tracker tires for raised beds I think the rubber helps heat up faster and holds heat somewhat. Last year we had a weird frost and our stuff in the tires all survived. Everything in the ground died

I planted about a dozen canes of heirloom raspberry bushes in my yard about 5 years ago. Now I have a 3 meter by 3 meter patch and it keeps spreading. The important thing with raspberry bushes is to trim back the dead canes every spring and remove them. Doing so encourages and more berries.

I made all my raised beds out of pallets that the company I work for would have just burned releasing co2, I’ve stored that co2. Not just my raised beds, but storage units, play house for the children, and some furniture in the house too, all stored carbon. Everything built for wood is stored carbon. Frankly, this article sounds like it was written by the WEF, they don’t want people growing their own food because for everyone that does, they lose power, they don’t like that. Regarding raspberries: We have a mix of early and late fruiting varieties... meaning we (five people) have probably more than we need for 3-4 months of the year (raspberries are also very good at propagating themselves. It takes some effort to limit them to a ~1.5x4 m plot)

So how does packing, shipping 3,000 to 7,00 km, and delivering to many grocery stores decrease the carbon footprint? Plants absorb C02 and give off oxygen. My garden tools are mostly from my parents and grandparents, which saved it all from the dump. Good soil is a carbon-sink, meaning it traps carbon in the soil so the plants can grow strong. And there's a difference between Carbon Dioxide and Carbon Footprint, which she's using interchangably. I had a neighbor who told me that I wasn't allowed to plant trees on my property because I would ruin his view. Needless to say I planted fruit trees. He mowed them down when I wasn't home. I had the property resurveyed and then planted more trees with rebar driven around them. (well over 20 feet from the boundary ) The old fool had to have his lawn tractor towed away after hitting the first one. I didn't have to say a word.

Yes, I bought a polytunnel and a few metal raised beds that will probably all outlive me. Building my soil adding wood chip n grass clippings n bunny poo. I have a small allotment, about 1/4 acre, and soon raising turkeys along with the fruit n veg I could easily feed myself and my immediate neighbours with in a crap situation. No machinery used. A good example of supply chain failures is no food or life sustaining products at chain stores during a hurricane in the Southern US. They tell everyone every year to have a few weeks of supplies and the ability to exist without power. During hurricanes they tell people to fill up your tub and buckets with water to use to flush a toilet or what ever in the event no electricity effects the pumping station and having no water. That's just a yearly thing in the southern US . Every year people who can afford to prepare for storms and limited supply at the store.
