Hello, Mammoth Cave is the second longest. The antarctic Ross Cave-system is longer than 1000 km, measured by radar . The biggest chamber 11 km long , 1,5 km wide and 800 m high! Measurement was made by radar and sonar but it is official. But Mammoth cave is a phenomenom too , and it will grow from year to year. Best speleo-wishes from MetalCat
Good to know. Looks like I'll have to look at the title again, or just pin this comment. The Ross Cave system is is not on Wikipedia's list of longest caves. Is this a fairly new discovery?
@@RoadLessTraveledWI Thanx for your quick answer. I am looking for speleo-information since 2005 in the net and I found this information 3 month ago. But it is not new. The antarctic, the very last piece of nature on our planet, is owned by a 5-state agreement: Norway, GB, Canada, Argentina and Australia (newcomer) since 195....? Their agreement: no tourism, no intervention of natural resources! The Ross-sea (Ross was the explorer), is visited by 80% of all whales on our planet, it has to be saved as much asd possible. There is a gigantic entrance formed in ice, deeper in stone. Scuba-diving was possible longer than 2km, chambers filled with air. They made a flight with radar for longer than 1000km, it is like Jules Verne , there is a different world. From the other side, speleologists from Australia found a clomplete different climate inside this cave, tropical!!!!!! With flora! There is no international authority concerning caves, everyone can say: my cock is the ...OMG! I observe this til the 1970ś , oh itś fun! I found pictures of the entrance and a sketch of the length, only the lenght that was measured, maybe it is much longer!! There is no interest to get worldwide tourists to the antarctic. I was not there, so I cant say, I have seen it with my own eyes. But it is provided that more than 5 seas of sweetwater are found at the ground of antarctic sea, deeper than 2000m. My opinion: close the chapter, we dont have to destroy the very last. And: the USA and China extract oil in the antarctic without permission! Excuse my bad english, I am german. Best wishes Marco Haverland
LOL That's awesome. We love learning about things like this. It says the longest on the National Parks Systems website, so whether or not that's fake news, probably going to keep the title.
Mammoth Spring AR. N-E. Is a great place to start, Hwy. 63. If you're looking for an affordable Honeymoon. Spring water river. Take it down to Hardy AR. There's 2 or 3 Holtels, Days Inn, on top of a hill. There's a nice size cave, The Blanchad Spring caverns.
I remember the names of the formations by a slightly differend method whitch is: the T from stalacTiTe means TOP . . . and the M from the stalagMite means BOTTOM the rest is simple . . one grows from the top , the other from the bottom . you get what i mean
