Better explain that to all those economic idiots out there waving picket signs demanding $20hr plus benefits to flip burgers or sweep floors. Cranking up minimum wage to these unsustainable amounts doesn’t help anyone, these are the same people who support reparations or who think the government ought to give poor people a bunch more lump sum payments to “lift them out of poverty”. The government can’t lift you out of poverty, YOU have to do that and flipping burgers is for teens and college kids, not for a career.

Many times they also have prepared salads marked down from $5.99 to just $3.00. They also sell prepared sandwiches too. My co workers are also doing it. Fast food is too expensive.

Any employer who might be willing to offer one of these folks a job is taking a risk - and the higher the minimum wage, the higher the risk involved. Do you think any of these hard-core unemployables are better off because it's illegal to just pay them $10 or $12 an hour to start and see if they work out or not?

Can you imagine standing up for the ceo or shareholders of mcdonalds, taco bell instead of the poor people (in every sense) working there. And also the commenter above should also know that you don't make money because a lot of people buy something, but because they spend a lot. So for a hairdresser fpr example, it's better to have 5 rich clients than 10 poor. He works less, use less products and gets more money. The only side that is losing is the poor person here, but capitalism never cared about them in the first place because they are not "productive". And if the hairdresser can't nake end meet, either he get new skills to be more marketable thus reaching the higher paying costumers, or he adapts to the law of offer/demand and lower the prices to reach the demand. Well it’s just not the high wage for the workers, it’s the much higher prices for fast food. Two hot dogs, one large fries and drink $14.89, when Trump was president this cost me $7 dollars! I worked construction all of my life and for a good portion of it was paid $15 to $18 dollars a hour. We’re talking super hard work, now you can make $20 dollars a hour for flipping hamburgers! Gavin Newsom needs his head examined. Fast food workers making more money than construction workers, crazy!

Yet, according to the Big Mac Index, Big Macs cost the same in Denmark as they do in the US. Maybe this whole idea that companies can just charge more whenever wages increase has no substance behind it. Fact of the matter is that there is a maximum price that people are willing to pay for a product, no matter how much they have in their pocket. McDonalds isn't going to get away with charging $20 for a meal, no matter what the minimum wage is.

My heart goes out to her. I understand her frustration. It’s terrible. Problem is that if that employee makes 20.00 a hour they take home 600.00 a week after taxes. Equals 2400.00 a month. Sounds like good pay in other states. The cheapest 1 bedroom apartment in my area is 2014.00. There’s no way you can afford housing and necessities in CA right now. Newsom just continues to make things worse.
