And the man can STILL sing like this. He's a freaking genius. He also did a version of this on the voice with the son of the dude that wrote it for him
Lonnie Donegan wrote it for himself, & recorded it in around '62. He suggested it to TJ to record in '67, five years later! He did NOT write it 'for' Tom Jones!
It never fails. When he hits that first "Fall in love," people stare in shock. Then he goes up higher with "No I'm never gonna fall in love" and people's shock becomes disbelief. And then just as you think that's all he has in his vocal toolbox (which is pretty impressive at that point) he sings that last part and you're transported to a different level. The power of Tom Jones. :)
Please do. He sang this song with the son of the man who wrote it. And this man's voice is still just as awesome. He's in his 70s-at least-and he still sounds the same. Check out all his The Voice clips. He sang It's a Man's World with Jennifer Hudson. He's still got it!!!!!!
Thanks for showing a Tom Jones song. One of the best voices in the last 60 years. His songs and voice has brought many people together, as other great artists have. Because talent and the love of good music, in any generation, can touch something in everyone.
I'm a OOG and Tom Jones in my top 5 singers. I love seeing the babies get to enjoy and experience the great music we had back in the day. Even if it's not your type of music you have to appreciate the talent,no autotune , and the instrumental. Enjoy
Lonnie Donagan wrote and put it out first. Tom made it famous. Tom is a judge on Voice UK. Tom turned for a young guy with last name Donagan. Tom asked him if he knew Lonmie Danagan. He said it was his Dad. Tom said do you know the song your Dad gave me? He said yes and they sang it together. He still sounds amazing.
I've seen several reactions to this song; yours & one other were the most humorous while still respecting the talent of the man. If my mom were still here, she'd want to give you a big hug (and a plate of cookies).
Tom is one of the best male vocalist of all time. He still tours occasionally, and I was fortunate enough to get to go to one a few years ago - and he has still got it. FYI, he was also very good friends with Elvis.
I've met Tom Jones 2 times, once in 1985, in Toronto, Canada my Godmother took me, I was 13 and a second time in 1995 second time went to see him with a girlfriend in the USA and seen Tom Jones 6 times in the 2000s! Such a wonderful man and one of the best singers alive!!! Even got a kiss twice!!💞🤗
Where was I in 1967. I was 6 years old. By the time I was six years old I had probably seen Tom Jones in concert twice. My mother was obsessed. I loved your reaction. He is truly a treasure. He just turned 80, he got a lovely surprise happy birthday from Stevie Wonder himself. He used to have his own special. Stevie Wonder was on his show and they did a medley. Janis Joplin has been there, Billy Preston, Aretha Franklin, omgoodness the list goes on and on. He is now a coach on The Voice & he’s still got it. During a break, on The Voice. The audience begged him to sing. He sang one of his hits “It’s Not Unusual”. Jennifer Hudson, will.i.am & Olly Murs, weren’t even born. It’s possible that their parents may not have been born at the height of his career. Yet, they know, they took out their phones and recorded the moment. Because they knew, what a gift this man is to all us all.
...Tom turned 80 last spring...and he can still bring it! Tom was married to his high school sweetheart until she passed away a few years ago [cancer].
I had the great pleasure of seeing this man in concert every year in the 70's at the Chateau De Ville in Framingham, MA. He was the ultimate ladies man with the voice, the charm and the looks.
Thanks for doing this reaction. The one and only Tom Jones! One of Britain's greatest voices. He drove the ladies crazy. They literally would throw panties on stage and hotel room keys. He and Elvis were great friends. He was married to the same woman from the time he was 17 till just recently when she passed away. He still can belt it out and is a judge on the voice Britain. Try his songs "treat her right" "she's a lady" and "delilah" fantastic! Take care
Back in the day where if you were singing live.... you COULD SING!! No autotune or studio help!!!He got soooooo popular ,especially with the women, at times they had a designated "bra and panty person" to collect all that were thrown on stage at him!! My Mom was one of the them...lol.. ohhh those 60's.
This came out when I was a senior in high school! Loved him then and still do! Love seeing him on The Voice UK where he’s a judge. He can still crank them out today just like back then! Like your reactions, keep them up!
You should really see his live performances on the Voice UK; two favorites of mine are 'Cry to me' and 'This is a man's world', this one he sings with Jennifer Hudson. For some reasons this man's voice just ages like great wine.
Alrighty, it's your resident ol' crow here, I was 23 in 1967, so I should probably be on display in a museum somewhere as an example of ancient humanity! Dang, Billy, are you one of those young men who seem to think time itself will stop when you reach the age of, say, 30? 40? I know at your age it seemed indeed that I would possibly never age. But I am here to tell ya: YOU WILL GET OLD UNLESS YOU DIE YOUNG! And even back in the dark ages before 1990, there was music! You must realize that since you keep hearing what you are playing, and somebody over 21 wrote most of this great music. So just enjoy and don't obsess so much with age. Thanks a million for your reactions, & the great music you react to! Luv ya!
So glad to see someone react to that low note as much as his powered high notes. The man has always had incredible vocal control and range and his more popular material did not always make the best use of it. He has an incredible body of work, including his new releases. Not bad for a boy who spent about at least one year isolated & house-bound (and another year fully recovering) with TB in the early 1950s in a small town in Wales. His lungs recovered well.
Check Tom Jones video out on The Voice, as a judge, and the other judges get him to sing a cappella right there in the chair!! 80 years old and kills it!! Great reaction today!!
We were blessed to have tom and his buddy Engelbert in our living rooms. I was 5 when this came out. Use to sneak his Live at The Flamingo out of my sister's room... 🎉❤🎉
Sir Tom Jones is known as "The Voice" here in the UK,you should check out some of the duets he has done ie: The Stereophonics,Janis Joplin his songs appeal to all generations.
Beatles had the teeny boppers early in their career. They'd faint, swoon and scream. Tom Jones made old women blush, middle aged women toss their panties and younger women.....well, we probably know what Tom Jones did with younger women.
somehow this is therapeutic. its been a few decades but my time in forward deployed Marine infantry was sort of an escape from the constant racial cacophony and racial politics that exists in the public domain. To watch a black kid that would fit seamless into our squad thrill to the pure merit and skill of a white dude without reference to politics or background takes me back to when our admiration and trust with each other was about rifle scores, pft scores, land nav skills, stripes, etc. I know this sounds rediculous, but I write this in the hopes that you take this in the spirit of appreciation for which it was meant. Maybe your experience inthe military was different, but that's how I remember it.
ive seen a few of these young black american rappers reacting to Tom Jones and they are all blown away. But i just can not picture ga gs of them rummaging around record stores looking for his old albums
Take a simple melody with simple lyrics, add Tom Jones, and you get a world class performance. Not many people can do that. You should check out B.J. Thomas's "You Gave Me Love." You'll like it.
You should check out the original, by the guy who wrote the song, Lonnie Donegan. It's a little gentler, more heartfelt, but still powerful. Donegan was a legend in UK music, for many many decades, & influenced everyone, including The Beatles, The Stones, Paige, etc
Tom Jones did not get his heartbroken he just broke Hearts LOL love you brother please react to David Phelps.. songs like just as I am his remake at the age of 51 of. I have nothing. The dream. Nessun Dorma. Mio Bambino Caro. Never Walk Alone. O Holy Night. Water. And so many more. I'll be looking forward to her brother until then stay well
Seriously you gotta listen and watch treat her right. You will never forget it.My mother was in love with this guy.Women used to throw there undergarments at him.
