THIS MIGHT BE THE BEST EPISODE! (Frieren Ep 22 REACTION!) 

The old man who was "training" Stark is one of the best jokes in this show hahaha

Stark ordered the same thing Himmel ate because Frieren suggested it. When Denken and his kids came into the restaurant Stark was saying that he didn't know what to order because everything looked great and Frieren told him she'd recommend something.

Yeah Frieren seemed to be a lot more open hearted when she was young. But after being alone for so many centuries she became apathetic. Traveling with Himmel and the others opened her heart back up. And taking care of Fern made Frieren open up even more.

In this episode, Frieren does a food review and has a sleepover, Denken gains a granddaughter, Fern does fatty things, Kanne and Lawine stay bickering lesbians and Übel and Land start dating.

This episode makes Ubels conversation with Fern funnier. It seems to imply emphasizing with Fern would get her the see through clothes spell. She wouldnt get any offensive spells cause Fern just uses the basics. Also Ubel connects prefferences and personality to spell choice, so she might think Fern is a pervert.

Whenever shows introduce an ensemble cast for a big competition arc, they usually like to endear you to the characters before all the competing. Having this ep come after the first part of the exam was a cute way to show how chill everyone is _after_ they all tried to kill each other.

35:25 about this whole discussion on frieren's answer to Serie, I think the point here is that Frieren ALWAYS loved magic. When flamme first met her in episode 10, frieren answered that she loves magic, it was always something she had inside of her. The purporse of her journey with himmel has less to do with her relationship with magic and more to do with how she relates to humans. In episode 1, after himmel dies, she says: "I'll try to understand humans". That's the point of her new journey, that's the change her character undergoes. I don't think she would ever give a different answer than the one she gave to Serie at any point in her life, that's just who she is at her core.

Did you notice, the color of Lindsay 's sweater is also match with Fern.

7:50 During an earlier episode, we learned Himmel's favorite food is omurice, Eisen's favorite is sour grapes, and Heiter likes anything alcohol (obviously). Since Himmel liked the omurice in this restaurant so much, Frieren recommended it to Stark.

This episode was refreshing. I was honestly getting kind of tired of the whole formula where someone says something, then there’s a back flash where someone says the same thing, and they say it again. These back flashes were a slight departure from that, which I appreciate.

I believe in the ending she is laying on Himmel's grave. And then she wanders aimlessly until she takes Fern as her apprentice and they bond over magic, "it didn't have to be magic" represented by the blue flower.

Dining scene is so emotional to me cuz Himmel always try to leave trace of there journey along the way so in far future Frieren can still come back and think about them.

I've encountered a lot of old man like that. Sometimes they just simply wanted to talk to someone. At the end of the day ive no clue about who they are at all.

Carson, I think you're mischaracterizing what Frieren said to Serie (at around this point in the discussion 34:54), and the relevant timeline of events. When she rejected the proposal from Serie, Frieren was speaking from the perspective of a mage who loves magic, and what the pursuit of magic entails. In an earlier episode we saw (when Flamme was younger) that Frieren professed that she loved magic; but when Flamme was nearing her death, Frieren's stance towards magic turned more mellow/blasé. This shows where Frieren's mind was after Flamme's death and before meeting Himmel and the crew. When Frieren and Flamme went to see Serie, we saw that Flamme was still young, so it can be assumed that Frieren's love for magic was still at its height - explaining why she said what she said. She didn't have the knowledge, or the desire really, to know and understand humans, she was strictly speaking about the magic itself. Here is the timeline: Frieren is found by Flamme (she loves magic) > She meets Serie (still loves magic, so she wants to pursue learning it herself) > Flamme and Frieren live their lives (Frieren's love begins to mellow) > Flamme passes > Frieren in a state of stagnation for 1k years > Himmel and the crew show up > Himmel tells Frieren he loves her spells (because he loves Frieren) > Frieren collects spells (likely before even meeting Himmel, but assuredly more so after meeting him) > Himmel passes > Frieren's regret about not understanding humans and valuing her time with them > Frieren's journey of understanding.

That callback to the "essence of martial arts" got me. It's not what I first think of with the show, but Frieren has some quality comedy from time to time.

Bell can be an Easter egg to "I'll see you in the dungeon" anime. The main character is Bell there. The next eposide is a dungeon. Frieren series in many ways is overwhelmed with Easter eggs.

Ubel is OP as heck. Her ability really is an MC power in some other fantasy. Haha it will be even more amazing once they explain her ability in detail and why she failed the last exam. XD

Frieren already loves magic when Flamme have just adopted her (episode 10), which can be interpreted as love for the process learning spells rather than them instantly being handed down by someone. So I agree with Lindsay there

My understanding is that frieren loved magic but flame's teachings kinda killed that love in her in order to turn her into a demon killing mage and it wasnt until her journey with himmel and the gang that she rediscovered that love

Magic is influenced by their personality and living environment. I think Ubel is someone who doesn't understand much about other people's emotions but still wants to understand. Ubel can copy another person's magic exactly, meaning absolute empathy for that person. She sympathizes with many types of people, I think her personality is also to protect her spirit.

probably explains why Frieren and Fern only uses basic magic spells, coz u never know ur against an opponent that can copy spells, they probably only need to use Ultimate Spell when its really needed.

This episode was so fun nothing crazy happened it was just slife of life nonsense and everyone was just hanging out I loved ubell just sticking to the random clone guy I just found kinda funny making it look like there dateing or something. Normally not a big fan of nothingness episodes but even with the characters we barley known are just fun to see chill for a episode
