Serie's test basically came down to how each of the mages(except Frieren) reacted to her. Basically, everyone who failed was afraid of Serie. Everyone who passed was unintimidated by her. They had confidence enough in themselves to either approach her or even consider their chances in a fight. Methode just thought she was cute. Honestly, Serie would be perfectly happy to have Frieren become her student, but Serie knows that Frieren has no interest in power like herself. As for her human students, Serie cares deeply about every one of them, the only thing that Serie hates is their short lifespans. Serie loves how bright humans burn, but that is what also makes them burn so fast. Serie is basically trapped in this melancholy state because of how short her time with each of her human students is. They can never reach her heights because they just don't have the time. That's one of the reasons she gets irritated by Frieren, Frieren has the potential and the time to match her but Frieren isn't driven to do so.

Not only that , noticing how Serie immediately knew what everyone is thinking and how they are reacting, even Übel. Methode was the only one Serie could not see through, for one reason or another. Serie had to ask her what she was thinking when Methode saw her.

@@septesix not really, i think she prob2 has a spell that can judge people reaction or intuition. She did fern what she was looking, at first she taught fern was terrified with her suppresed mana, its true but fern was terrified by serie's real mana. She ask for wirbel fav spell too

I think she just is so hurt that all her loved students died before her. I get that calling her "tsundere" is very easy way to grasp her personality but it is also insulting her. She really is just a child who can not fully recognize why everyone she love"s" can not last as long as her and dies.

I love how in the scene with Serie's Students, you can see "A Spell to Control Water", "A Spell to Capture Birds", and "A Spell to create Golems". All Magic that have been heavily focused on throughout the series!

It's likely to be a highly compressed ball of Zoltraak tbh, it has the exact same colorations and everything. And it might also be absorbing mana from the surroundings (which would include barriers) because the magelights fluctuated and turned off when he casted his spells.

@@cirnotheicefairy3609 Black Zoltraak is the original Zoltraak by Qual (Sage of Destruction demon), a human killing Zoltraak. Humanity evolved that Zoltraak into a Demon killing one, which is white colored, and became the basic offensive spell now. Frieren vs her clone of course use the original Zoltraak because they werent fighting Demon.

Recent discussion around Serie suppressing mana made me think of Heiter. When he met Frieren he said her mana is 1/5th of his own. Flamme told Frieren to supress it to 1/10th capacity, Aura makes a comment that she has around a hundred years worth of training and it didn't change much since they met, which checks out with her real age of somewhat over a thousand years. So with some assumptions we can conclude that Heiter had a mana pool of a 500 year old mage, in the ballpark of Aura herself. We get some glimpses of Himmel and Eisen being badass, but Heiter was also a beast and true chosen of the Goddess.

Heiter is absolutely a monster tbh Spoiler.. . . . *He can literally cast a spell for multiple people to survive without food or oxygen, for TWO MONTHS. *He can already use goddess spell when he was a kid *Heiter's prowess is so great that Grausam's curse doesn't even affect him while frieren gets one shot by grausam

@@martinbergen2963tbf, she "blocked" all the attacks with the same defensive spell but its the first time those attacks actually completely break frieren of all people's defenses instantaneously. Thats quite the feat for a human mage

@@khalduras784 you can clearly see that she didnt even try to fight. Not summoning her staff or using jilwer to Dogge the attack or attack herself. She let him hit her. The first attack alrdy broke the defense, so she knew that he can go through it. He used a condensed variant of the original zooltrak thats used to kill humans. Ofc its quite a fest, because the other mages cant even use it. I dont try to belittle him, its just clear in this Situation that she didnt even bother with him

Reason why Serie didn't talk to Ubel is that she killed one of the first-class mage which is her apprenticeship. But she knows she is talented so she had to give her a certificate. But surely she feels something towards her.

There was a point to Wirbel's story. Frieren told him it was weird he helped the old lady because he looked like an edgelord who'd kick a dog for no reason and he tried to kill Fern's party and he explained that he only looked like a douche and he actually tried to be nice and help people everywhere he went and the reason was that his village had stories about Himmel doing non-badass but nice things and that those stories inspired him. He basically said that she was judging him for how he looked instead of by how he acted, and he tried to act like Himmel.

21:40 It feels like Wirbel is just telling Frieren his story because the stories of Himmel and the Hero Party inspired him to reach where he is now. It's kinda like a person telling a band how much their songs have helped them get through a point in their life, to let them know their appreciation. Himmel has passed away, but Frieren is the only one left of the Hero Party that Wirbel has met, so he takes the chance.

I'd trust Serie in that Lernen COULD beat Frieren, maybe not a guaranteed win, but the odds were probably on his side. He's been Serie's student for 50 years, while Flamme was trained by her for around 20, dude may not be on par with those 2 but he's surely a problem.

Where magic is about visualization, Ubel makes it about intuition. Frieren made a lot of comments about Serie's intuition always being right. I wonder if Serie passed Ubel this quickly because they are similar types of mages? She also just looks at everybody like a shark. Must be unnerving, even for someone like Serie.

Nice fun ending with meaningfull diologe perfect book end to the season and i know you talked alot about it in discussions but for the possible podcast how do you feel about imagination being a restriction in this story, were typically imagination is a excuse for magic to do what ever. Also the dub is great definitely recemend it

I just realized something. Himmel passed away with a peaceful smile on his face. While people in the church said that Frieren, Heiter and Eisen being heartless and not crying, Frieren looked at Himmel and seemed to remember something. I think Frieren remembered Himmel once said that "It would be embarrassing when we met again" but no, this time she would not see Himmel again so she finally regretted that why didn't she get to know Himmel better.

question about podcast: (my englsih isn't really good, so i'm sorry if i got some mistakes) when the first class mage exam arc was first started in the manga, it got a mixed reaction, there are a lot of people that don't like it because it feels very different the usual frieren. i also don't really like this arc back when it first started in the manga, but now in the anime, i kinda like it, maybe because they adapted it really well with some of the best animation this year, and maybe it's also because i'm biased, cause now i know this arc is just a big setup introducing stuff that will be important in the future arcs later. so how do you guys feels about this mage exam arcs as a standalone arc?

They adapted 60 chapters, there's currently 127 published in total, so at least there's enough material for a second season (though a third one might have to wait until the buffer fills up), and the ending seemed to imply an intention to produce it... (and as far as content goes it has the potential to be even better than this one in every single measure that this series is praised for)...

She told wirbel after they lost. they had given up and he was carrying her on his back. that she could introduce him to her grandpa who was a 1st class mage so that they could travel with him. then they happen to see a stille and wirbel captures it.
