The entire flirting interaction had me sympathizing with Koolie, good god my neck hurts from cringing 💀

I'm fairly sure this is some kind of really messed up relationship, considering that when you ask about them naming each other you learn just from the prompts that he named the wife after a goddess, and she named him after a dog. Between that, how insecure he is about his looks presumably because of his wife, and the emphasis he puts on that he's the ONLY one taking care of her, there's definitely some kind of messed up dynamic going on there regardless of the status of the wife.

i guess "cookies and milk" is the best ending not only because we weren't inappropriate or creepy with him but because this newly found friendship that Koolie is so eager about might actually help him to get out of that potentially abusive relationship with his wife that other people in this comment section have theorized about. but yeah, the real horror is protag's behavior xD

The audacity of the protagonist in the Bad ending, my God.

So I found the creators toyhouse and deviantart page and it turns out Koolie had a pretty interesting history. Not just as a character but also during his development. At first he was the son of a merchant that would become a butler to the daughter of a noble family, who is Venus. And apparently in that version he was the one who was obsessive and bad with boundaries. And had an undying devotion to Venus even though she didn't have any interest in him. However they did end up getting married and did actually give each other new names. So like here, "Koolie" isn't his 'actual' name. But then they arrived at a weird circus and Venus became a goo pile he could actually wear. Oh yeah forgot to mention, in 2018 the creator had an idea about a freakshow thing and the two would originally be a part of that. But then a few months later they eventually quit the freakshow thing all together but it seemed like they got attached to Koolie and Venus. So their story was changed where Venus was an actual alien goo goddess thing and Koolie as one of a few surviving members of a cult that worships her. Instead of just being cold Venus is activly cruel to others unless they're loyal. Koolie is naturally nice but to him his only purpose is to benefit her and will do horrible acts as long as she says it's ok. Venus does like Koolie solely because of his devotion to her, but only see's him as a favored tool. Becauee of more people discovering the cult and people dissapearing the cult would eventually die down to just Koolie. But he eventually became a leader due to Venuses "healing powers" (which is purely used for parasitism) getting himself a following and enough recourses for an actual church, which has a pretty good relationship to the town. Tentador Leches is either still the cult storyline where Koolie is trying to rebuild the cult by gaining peoples trust as a milkman (he's described as a good liar in that version), or another reworking of their story where Koolie and Venus are regular people in a shaky relationship with elements of their previous versions. I'm betting on the latter because I found something the creator said that makes it seem that this Koolie and Cult leader Koolie are different people. And apparently Venus isn't a goo pile and/or dislikes Koolie, she was just in a catatonic state from a car crash. (Edit): Hold up I actually found that the creator has a SECOND deviantart acc for RP stuff. And they actually had an idea of an alternate Koolie being a milkman since 2018. Which does seem to confirm that this version is not a cultist and they just wanted too do something with milkman Koolie. An dhis description says that he's the one that ends up overstepping boundaries to know them better and can't really tell is someone dislikes him. There's even an entire backstory that I'll try to simplify. He grew up in an orphanage (he does say he doesn't have parents) which was run by a nun who was dutiful but not excacly loving of the kids. It also descibes him as needy, very dependent, emotional and would turn to other kids for comfort. Because of his weird eyes and disfavor from the nun, he wasn't exacly "desirable" to adopt so he tried to make up for that by being as useful as he could with other kids or chores. During his late teens he knew he had to leave soon. That's around when he met Venus and immedietly asked her name, and her hand in marriage. Obviously she said no. He then found that Venus was related to a ranch owner in Mexico, and that they would often travel to there to visit relatives. So whenever she arrived in town, he would be ready with gifts and would do a lot of other things for their favors. Her dad called him a layabout so found work at a stockroom in the market. Her mother called him lowly, so he saved up to buy nice clothes. The girl herself called him scrawny, so he built his strength. Then a couple years later Venus would say yes. Her family wasn't terribly surprised since she was a solemn but commanding girl. So it made sense that she would accept a man who would work like a dog (hense the name) and do as she asked. Other details I didn't mention: In all verisions (the circus, the cult and the milkman) Koolie is always doing questionable acts (excited about wearing his wife, devoting his life to a goo lady and doing acts of violence under her command, giving the player suspicious milk) and they're all related to Venus. Koolie had a pretty consistant design over the years (white hair, brown skin, big, green eyes, even a similar smile) however in his first two appearences ther were these black lines underneath his eyes. I don't think there's anything explamation outside of Venus being a goo pile or it just looked cool. In his toyhouse profile there is an image where he's giving out cookies with dialogue that implies Venus is in them ( again, it's used for parasitism) so there's that. In his original Circus staff interpretation he can have a temporary psychic connection with someone and know what they're thinking about (it works both ways) by eating a part of them or having them eat part of him (ie hair, blood, ect). I guess that could've been an inspiration for the rotten milk ending. Apparently I think the reason the game has a spanish title is because Koolie is meant to be Mexican or at least spanish speaking. And the creator mentioned it was a joke about telenovelas (aka latin-american tv soap operas). I guess it's cause of the idea of trying to flirt/get to know with a milkman who has all sorts of strange rumors arout him felt like something out of a soap opera.

Venus isn't dead - she's braindead, in a coma. He constantly eludes to her illness making her unable to state her opinion. She used to always tell him what to do, how to dress, and how he looked to her, but since she 'fell ill', he hasn't been able to talk to her. He says he's lived in other towns where people would spread nasty rumors - including that he doesn't take good enough care of his wife because he leaves her alone while he goes to work. When you ask if they're divorcing, he says no one getting a divorce because she needs his care - then corrects himself, and says she could even leave him for another man and Koolie would continue taking care of her, that h e always will. Koolie panics when you ask if she's dead, then fully freaks out when you imply he (should) put her out of her illness's misery. He outright says that the player is poking fun at a sick woman and her lousy husband - "the only one left who *will* take care of her". I'd like to think Koolie is a tragic hero, trapped taking care of his abusive, catatonic wife when no one else would. It's also possible Koolie did something to her in order to make her as physically dependent on him as he is emotionally dependent on her

Wow, you really play as a creep in this game, like the thought of hiring someone just because they have a reputation as a himbo/bimbo is disturbing enough, but to then basically force your fantasies onto said person? Now that is a horrible person.

I actually really like the Rotten Milk ending! It's much better than the usual killing, y'know? And more unsettling, wonder what happened after that

I played that game, got the cookies and milk ending, and immediately decided to not be mean ever to him and just stopped playing.

I work as a host at a restaurant myself and I can definitely feel his rage. Constant remarks on my body, flirting while not wanting to pursue a relationship, and the absolute urge to yell at them. Of course, my job is to make every guest feel comfortable, as they are my customers. But dear lord, basic respect shouldn't be a privilege in my workplace. The last ending felt more like a good ending because he could finally take his rage out on the creeps in his neighbourhood. (edit: As obvious, I don't condone harming customers, nor will I ever. It's just a sort of impulsive thoughts most workers get and it's quite satisfying to see it)

so theres two possibilities when it comes to the guy, imo : one. he IS stuck in a abusive relationship, and his wife is sick- maybe the wife berates and manipulates him so he'll stay with her. hence the dog name or something. hearing someone break the bubble he has around him (like saying hes handsome when he thinks he isnt/thinks that other people complimenting/flirting with him is wrong because he's married (even though he mentions other people have flirted with his wife too)) he kinda just. snaps. and obviously hes not in his right mind so he forces you to drink his blood hair milk two. his wife IS dead, like DEAD DEAD, but he's weirdly still loyal to her. or, he's in denial of her death and insist she's just sick. same with the first one you kinda break the bubble he has, and he snaps. whether he kills his wife in this one is up to interpretation. i dont think the guy is a yandere or something, because a yandere would probably kill the mc and be done with it. he seems to be just...really kooky.

Simply change his last name to a dairy product pun, like "Koolie Mooliek", and Koolie could easily fit as an Ace Attorney character

I'm assuming the few dialogues after would lead to the same spoiled milk ending, but I'm v curious about the little bits of dialogue and Koolie's response with "your wife named you after a dog?" and/or "are you okay?" Also I was sure Koolie in the rotten milk ending came super early in the morning to kill the MC, but what transpired is actually much creepier and unsettling than the usual 'oh you made me upset, time to die' outcome. Kudos.

He was abused to the point of idolizing his wife, then she was bedridden/coma/maybe dead, and then he has to listen to these customers prying about his situation everyday. He's probably been near a nervous breakdown for months and the protag straight up accuses him of murder.

I hate the fact that I've managed to irreversibly think of 'Boyd' from Psychonauts every single time I see or hear the word 'Milkman' I genuinely thought that that Manly would open the door and he'd just be standing there saying how delicious his milk is

Yeah, I remember that old Goofy cartoon. Soon as he opened the door, the milkman just swoops right in for a kiss and then immediately leaves. It used to be a trope about permiscious wives stepping out on their husbands with milkmen and mailmen, although I'm not sure how or why it became a thing. Then pr0n came along and it's the poolboy and the pizza delivery guy and the plumber. Maybe because milkmen aren't really a thing anymore, I suppose, so that trope fell out of favor. I'm also reminded everytime I see something about Milkmen of my favorite part of Cell Block Tango: "Now I'm standin in the kitchen, carvin up a chicken for dinner, mindin my own business, when in storms my husband Wilber in a jealous rage. 'You've been screwin the milkman,' he says. He was crazy. And he kept on sayin 'You've been screwing the milkman!" He kept on sayin it over again, 'You've been screwin the milkman!' Then he ran into my knife. He ran into my knife 10 times."

They say stress speeds up graying. I'm pretty sure the wife is abusive and taking advantage of preexisting self esteem issues that Koolie had. Also prettysure Venus is cheating on him and he knows, but says nothing because he'd do anything for her in a almost yandere style. There's a good chance he's just grateful she isn't divorcing him. Seems like he's being driven mad, maybe killing her is a intrusive thought he gets and being reminded of it drove him off the edge for a bit. There's a good chance that his exetreme devotion to her made him that he deserved to die instead for even having such a thought, which went towards that if he died she wouldn't have him as a resource anymore and that was worse than the thoughts. Pretty sure rotten milk is basically him having a psychotic break, also do him and Venus even sleep in the same bed? edit: forgot to clarify that I think the suggestion the Venus isn't actually sick and koolie was telling that lie to hide her being gone by the player was more of a hint that she was lying and manipulating koolie with it. Also, alternate theory; she really was sick and passed away. Instead of getting her buried or cremated he didn't file the papers for her death and instead chopped her body up and ate her as a way to keep her with him forever despite how she treated him (she was abusive either way). He lies because if people find out she died of her sickness they would want to know where her body was. The stress from having to hide his wife's untimely death is what ruined his mental health to the point that he was constantly on edge and eventually driven off the deep end by you, even if just for the night. Edit2: read through half the comments. One mentioned the canon lore confirmed by the developer. We are pretty much all far off except the person who did the research and one other person that guessed Venus was actually a monster

Koolie's history/lore according to the devs devianart, just to fuel the theories: Koolie's childhood was a lonely one. He grew up in an orphanage near Texas' Mexican border, one of many children with limited time to be given to each of them. The orphanage itself was run by a nun, one who was dutiful but not loving of the children. Koolie was needy and dependent and found that he often had to turn to the other children for any sort of comfort. Because of this, he was often emotional and upset whenever one did finally leave the orphanage, even as a teenager. Small for his age with an unusual coloration to his eyes and such disfavor from the nun, he wasn't thought of as desirable to adopt. He felt unwanted and to combat this he worked to be as useful as he could in caring for the other children and taking care of chores. In his late teens, he knew he would need to leave soon, though he had no idea of where to go. He spent much of his time daydreaming about where he could go, of fantastical and unrealistic things that could happen to bring him out of the situation of being out on his own. And then one day while running an errand in town, he saw her. A beautiful girl about his age traveling with her father, flowers in her hair and her lips pursed in a disapproving frown at the strange boy who was staring at her in the marketplace. He would look back on this moment and describe it as like being struck by lightening. Love at first sight like so many stories he had heard before. He asked her name, and then he asked her to marry him. She, of course, said no. And her father said no in a far more angry manner. And so they left, but as friendly as he was with those in the marketplace he asked after her. I love the rotten milk ending. Koolio really realized the only way to make you stop trying to talk to him was to unnerve you more then you unnerved him and just went for it. You only get the horror if you horrifying Koolio, I love it. Like he's definitely hiding something, but you really are playing as the horror here.

Tbh I think his wife is dead. Maybe he loves her so much that he feels like he can't date other people even after she died. Maybe when she was dying she told him that it was his fault so now he thinks he killed her while knowing it's not true. Their relationship is clearly toxic. Maybe her illness and the way she treated him was the reason his hair turned white? Hair does that after a lot of stress. That would explain why he had such a reaction.

"I spoke a LITTLE out of line".... Seriously MC? The MC deserved this so SO much. I mean, the worst ending. I liked it though. Both the fact it was left so vague and so little was explained, and the fact he bad endings were not like "really bad" (in the sense, nobody died and so on).

Already the character is kinda creepy, his eyes are somewhat vacant. I think it's the low amount of reflection and the fact that his pupils aren't filled in, or are pinpricks. The artist did a very good job with that! (Edit: Oh, they mentioned that in-game too! Cool! Also, despite his appearance, I wouldn't mind this guy being my milkman...if that were still a thing.)

Fun fact: Koolie was originally a roleplay oc. Venus and him got into a car accident which was apparently Koolie’s fault, hence why Venus is described to be “ill” or dead. His original character was called “Koolie Starchild.” There’s more to it, but Koolie Starchild’s origins feels a bit unrelated to Tentador Leches, despite them being the same person (almost). The reason why it’s stated that Koolie and Venus chose names for each other in Tentador Leches is because their names don’t fit with the 1920-1930s settings. Also, I suggest playing Don’t Toy With Me or Karmic Punishment’s upcoming VN! (I think manly did a playthrough of DTWM)

If anyone is curious about why milkmen/women aren't really a thing anymore, I found 2 reasons: (1) Refrigeration has improved over time, so grocery stores are a more reliable source of dairy milk (which is distinctly perishable, even in comparison to other dairy products), and (2) Dairy milk was consumed more often back then; due to its marketing and reputation, it was moreso considered to be a healthy/vitality-boosting drink. (And there are also more alternative milk options nowadays, but it seems like even milk itself was more of 'a whole thing' back then)

Manly's "seductive voice" fucking killed me lmao! Poor Koolie. His relationship is dysfunctional but the protagonist was such a creep about it. It seems like his wife is emotionally abusive. Maybe she's dead but I'm not sure about that part. I see people saying his reaction to the accusation makes them think she is dead, but freaking out a bit after getting hit with that horrible line seems pretty normal to me 😬 Even feeding protag the hair he ripped out seems like something a real person might do out of spite, like when people working in restaurants spit in people's food, although irl I think they'd try to sneak it and skip the creepy dialogue about "giving you a part of me" lol. Either way our character is the real horror in this one.

another game made by the creator of toy with me? this is gonna be good!! I freaking loved toy with me, the characters were so loveable and the story line was amazing!! Edit: guys I changed my spelling issue T . T also sadly this game wasn't as good as toy with me but it was still great!

The theme for the choices and dialog remind me of the most common milk flavors; Strawberry, Chocolate and Normal Milk. I don’t know if that was intentional, or there for a different reason entirely but I thought I’d say it since it keeps distracting me entirely. The flirting section was the most embarrassing, hard to watch thing I’ve seen in a good while my gosh- Edit: Another thought, I don’t blame Koolie for snapping in that last ending. Only the first part; when Koolie lost his tempter and told the player how much we make him sick. Not only has the character we play as completely disregarded the fact Koolie doesn’t know the player, they push for information that nobody should seek from a stranger, first meeting nonetheless. They get irritated whenever that information isn’t given, or when Koolie avoids them the next day. Most of the endings wasn’t about Koolie losing his marbles either, either staying on friendly terms or just (rightful.) avoidance. Only one ending has him completely lose it. The last one was understandable for the first bit, the second bit with the milk was where it got flipped over. Poor Koolie just trying to do his job and getting treated poorly while doing it. So sorry if half of that was hard to read or understand, I rushed to type it since I nearly forgot what I was even thinking!

That was an AMAZING ending omg. Fetch I want to emulate that so badly in my own works. The impact of the unsettling unexpected. The lingering, unsatisfied anxiety. So good!!!

_Who's unhinged?_ Small towns, small minds = big rumors. Meet someone and accuse him of murder. Jeez. Koolie may or may not have murdered his wife, but the MC was morally bankrupt to seduce, then pry, then accuse. The tainted milk was well deserved lol. Personally, I think Koolie might have crippled his wife or something awful in a jealous rage and now she's his prisoner. That would've turned his hair white for sure. Altogether, this was fun - I liked the different endings & enjoyed the art, & enjoyed the writing.

My 2cents: abusive relationship... that went so far he went insane and accidentally killed her. He can't accept her death because that would mean she never actually loved him, that her acts of "love" were actually abuse the whole time. The way that he tried to "connect" with you by trying to be "part of you" sounds to me like something that would make someone sick... but also sounds like something an abuser would get their partner to do to punish them.
