The Tobey movies were made at a time where they were simply trying to tell a good story with a film that happened to be about a superhero. Whereas Tom’s and Andrew’s are held back by the attempts to build a larger universe and narrative rather than focusing on an individual story. Tom’s Spider-Man was essentially a sidekick to Ironman in the MCU and Andrew was definitely his own hero but the studio wanted to build its own Spider-Man universe because the interconnected storyline thing was a fresh trend at the time. The Toby films aren’t classics because of nostalgia or being the first superhero movies, they’re classics because they’re great movies that happen to tell the story of a superhero.

Start from the beginning with Iron Man 1.

I think the idea behind peter dancing and walking funny in the street is illustrating what happens when a mild-mannered geek, who has never (and clearly will never) be cool, becomes corrupted with ego and pride. In my opinion, it's not necessarily about whether WE think Peter looks cool. It's about showcasing the fact that this Peter does not care whether we think he's cool or not. HE thinks he looks cool, which is sort of the symbiote story in a nutshell.

Just because an 8/10 is lesser than two 10/10s, that doesn't make it a bad movie by any stretch. Was it compromised by behind the scenes issues and studio interference? Absolutely. But the fact that Sam Raimi was still able to pull off THIS GOOD of a movie IN SPITE of all that is nothing short of spectacular. Also, as someone who was never a big fan of Venom from the the comics, this is easily my favorite iteration of him.

Every superhero under the Marvel movie banner originates from Marvel comics. Back in the late 90’s Marvel fell into bankruptcy due to poor sales, so in order to reclaim their loses, they sold their most popular character rights to different movie studios. Blade went to New Line Cinema, X-Men, Daredevil, and Fantastic Four went to 20th Century Fox, Hulk and Punisher went to Universal Studios, Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America went to Paramount Pictures, and Ghost Rider and Spider-Man went to Columbia. Any Marvel that says just “Marvel” at the beginning instead of “Marvel Studios” exists in its own universe.

Childhood nostalgia. RIP Stan Lee as it was great to see his cameo🙏🙏. Spider-Man 3 by Sam Raimi is great in its own way🔥. I loved the Black-Suit Spider-Man and the design of it. Tobey Maguire dancing in the streets and his scene in the jazz club is greatest moment in Spider-Man history👏👏😂. JK Simons is my favorite character in the entire trilogy. I enjoyed the subway fight scene between the black-suit Spider-Man and Sandman. It was great to see Peter forgive Marko aka “Sandman” in the end. Aunt May is the real superhero for me in this entire trilogy as she’s always there for Peter. Loved your reaction/analysis, take care, stay healthy, enjoy life and have a good one❤️

My ranking is definitely the same as hers, Toby ones number 1, Garfield 2, Holland 3. I understand that the MCU version wanted to be different and utilize their universe to make them unique compared to other Spider-Man movies and that's fair, but they definitely do feel a lot more lighthearted and less serious just because of the overall tone, it feels very young teen oriented sometimes reminded me of like a kidcom on Disney or Nick with the approach.

Allowing the main character in a kids film to not be perfect, for you to learn from their mistakes (and there’s a lot of them) instead of their actions was thin ice to walk on at the time of release. Nobody had really done it yet. So when the movie came out and there was scenes that had Peter doing cringe stuff thinking that he was cool, cheating, and literal domestic violence, the critics first thought was “WOAH WTF Don’t promote this to our kids. What the hell did they do to spider man”

You get a glimpse of Peter’s true power when he punches Marko in the face. If he wasn’t made out of sand his skull would be exposed from one punch. Oh and his dance was SUPPOSE to look cringey because he’s a dork acting cool, look at the people disgusted by him lol

I have to agree with the argument that Tom Holland's Spiderman is too childish, he just comes across as being a bit too wet for a superhero! I really do not understand what makes the Tom Holland Homecoming one so great. I thought thought it was super bland and shallow. The humor felt like a Nickelodeon sitcom (which I like but it's just not Spiderman to me) And I just didn't find the plot it interacted except maybe rhe twist which was the moat interesting part but it didn't last. :S (No offense to fans of it)

I think it's seriously great that Sophie doesn't really sugarcoat her opinion on how certain Spider-Man movies compare to others. You don't need to put all Spider-Man movies on the same pedestal just because they're all Spider-Man. If fans can't understand that, then they honestly need to just grow up. Brand loyalty isn't a good thing. Sony Pictures Studios makes _billions_ of dollars off of these movies - they don't care if somebody prefers some of their movies over other ones as long as they make them money, and they absolutely do. And if Sony Pictures Studios doesn't care, then fans shouldn't either. Never be afraid to speak your mind. With that said, I'm really glad you guys enjoyed and appreciated this film. People have hated this movie for years because of how Venom was handled, but this film was always good. Your commentary was thoroughly enjoyable. And as some other people have surely pointed out, all these Spider-Man films are indeed Marvel films. Any film about a Marvel character is a Marvel film. What you're thinking of when you're talking about "Marvel" movies is the MCU, or Marvel Cinematic Universe, which only includes the Marvel movies starting with Iron Man in 2008 that are explicitly interconnected with one another in terms of continuity.

Sophie you're right and I got the same ranking (although I do prefer Andrew's spider-man personality in costume than Tobey's, if you combined both of them you'd get the ultimate Peter in my opinion lol). Tom Holland even in his last movie as a senior in high school was still extremely childish, as if he learned nothing from all the prior movies he was in before No Way Home, like you he went through all that with Thanos and was still willing to mess up the timeline, putting people's lives at risk, just because his friends didn't get into their preferred college...just let them go to community college and transfer, it's not the end of the world. Even worse when compared to Tobey's first Spider-man movie where his Peter was a senior in high school as well. In both those films they had the quote "with great power comes great responsibility" and the message hits way harder coming from uncle Ben. He had less screen time yet his death was way more impactful than Tom Holland's aunt May, despite her being in 3+ films because Disney preferred to have her there as the "hot aunt" for laughs than give her good dialogue to help develop her character and her relationship with Peter. Harry Osborn as the bestie > basic ass Ned all day. And these are just a few of examples, still way more issues where Tom Holland's movies dropped the ball.

I agree with Sophie this the better trilogy. He had no help and a basic suit. The other movies they had better suits and help. Tom Holland had suit upgrades and had the avengers help.

Spiderman is a marvel character, but sometime in the early to late 90s they were going bankrupt and licensed some of their characters to other companies, 20th Century Fox, And Sony as far as i know. spiderman was one of those characters, Sony made these spiderman movies and by the 3rd ones release Marvel was making Iron Man and their own cinematic universe (The MCU).

Idk if yall realized but Peter’s teacher is the lizard too. The same Connors from Andrew’s movie is this one. He just hadn’t become the lizard yet. But it’ll never happen. Oh yeah, the venom symbiote keeps whatever it gains from the host. Spider-Man being its favorite host, it kept a lot of his essence. Eddie already being an A-hole and a shady person, it just made him an even more vicious spiderman.

The general consensus is that this wasn't up to the standard of the other two, which is true, but personally, I think it depends how you look at it! The only reason it's perceived this way, is because the other two are just that good! The bottom line is, it holds up as a trilogy, which is extremely rare! Think about it, how many truly great trilogies are there? Lord of the rings? John Wick? The original Starwars? Back to the future? Indiana Jones? That's pretty much it! To show how hard it is to pull off, think of those that didn't! The Godfather? Alien? Even The Terminator couldn't do it! All time classics for the first two, but very poor third installments! These days we're lucky to even get a great movie period, never mind a trilogy! I suspect more and more people are starting to appreciate movies from the past, which didn't receive the credit they deserved when first released! We really didn't appreciate what we had back then, we were spoiled for choice. All we have now are cash grab remakes and sequels nobody asked for, and generic PC garbage being pumped out on an assembly line!

This was GARBAGE when it dropped, however AFTER seeing tASm 1&2 man I gotta give Raimi props for making good acting scenes for what he got permission from Sony Idk The Amazing Spiderman 2, I hated it, but loved how they had THE NERVE to k1ll Gwen which hurt but would give more growth to the character. Both Spiderman and Peter Parker...... But this movie got mixed feelings, for me it's garbage cuz too many things going on which 3 villains.nnone of which felt fleshed out........but the looks were cool. One of the many criticisms of this movie is that there's a lot going on. In this movie Gwen isn't even a character. Her purpose is just to cause a drama between him and Mary Jane. Gwen & her father didn't need to be in this movie imo.
