I love that they say their clothes are “100% degradable.” Well, yeah-everything degrades. It’s called entropy. It’s literally one of the laws of thermodynamics!

Would love to see more of this type of video (eg. Kotn and Frank and Oak). It should be a habit to analyze the company and process involved with the product before checking out items in the shopping cart online or offline.

I bought a few things from this brand and I really do love them, but I did think their sustainability statements were VERY sus. Plus it's way too affordable to be ethically produced. I think I was hoping against hope I was wrong :(((((

I love the style of their clothes but haven’t bought any. What is a sustainable brand with a similar style? I’m willing to pay more for a higher quality product that is sustainable but I haven’t seen sustainable companies making similar styles.

Thank you for this sneak peek into your process for checking out a brand’s actual sustainability. A huge red flag is when nothing is mentioned about where the clothes are made and by whom.

Eye-opener. Also continually amazed on your fabric knowledge and all of the insights when analyzing a website. Still trying to understand how to keep sustainability not just in the product used but at the core of the overall production. Thank you so much!

God It must be one if the things that trigger me the most all these "sustainable brand" almost none of them use natural fibers. The one that actually indicate the fiber content because a lot is not even listed. Like they will list "made of Crepe" "made of a light fabric" THAT MEANS NOTHING. It's like a sandwich and the ingredient list would be "Made of bread" 😬 I can't stand it.

This is great! Looking closer at what a brand is saying about themselves and thinking critically about the information they provide is a good practice. I'd love to see a guide to next steps. Where to verify the brands claims. Reliable 3rd party organizations that assess and report which companies are actually sustainable.

Thank you! I was just about to order, but I already picked up some red flags (vague About Me; cheap prices; yes, the fabrics did not seem that different from generic brands; and grammatical errors in the advertising). I really love the styles, so this will be an exercise in desire vs. environmental values. I really appreciate your breakdown.

Just based off that screen share of their website. It kinda looks like a fake brand... Photos looked stock or plagiarized and the whole website just had a fake, low quality feel. I admit that I'm judging 100% on the cover, but i agree with your analysis. At best, they are greenwashing. :/

I had to pause the video to take in my shock after learning about that 'Eco-Mousse' fabric... 😳 All that talk about plastic free and then acrylic included of all materials... and then teflon-coated! F-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c! (The cotton BS and rayon/viscose BS I am just so used to seeing I am not even gonna comment on it...) Also, I wonder what "feels natural" means? 🤨

They want to collaborate with me too… I’d loooove it so much to really have a sustainable and eco friendly fashion brand to work with me. When I looked at their materials and how they say their clothes are biodegradable- I just thought HOW?! All of their clothes have plastic fibers in there, but they say they’re plant based. But there’s literally nowhere any info on how they create these fibers etc🙄🙄 they’re not using organic cotton for their denim, not recycled materials… etc. But at least they throw some nice words on their website.

The CO2 comparison doesn't make sense to me because they're saying the Eco-Mousse produces less CO2 than acrylic and viscose, but it's made of acrylic and viscose (rayon). And they offer zero explanation why their acrylic and viscose is better than the ones they're comparing too. 🤔

Thanks for the through video, it was really helpful. I’d definitely be interested in seeing more videos like this in the future. One thing I did wish to question though is you talked about biodegradability and how the fabrics weren’t 100% biodegradable but I noticed that the website actually said 100% degradable. I thought that was interesting and a slightly different word from what you used, now I’m certainly not an expert on the differences between the two but is it possible that the company are correct in that the garment is degradable as a quick Google search says that ‘Degradable - anything that can be broken down either biologically or chemically (every product).’ Which is ever so slightly different to biodegradable which is something that is broken down by ‘bacteria and organisms’. It looks like a very clever use of words by the brand by making people think of biodegradable rather than what they actually mean without lying either as the statement is technically correct?
@MyGreenCloset
@MyGreenCloset 2 года назад
I noticed that too. Above where it says "Degradable" it also says "Biodegradable" though. They use both terms for the product, I'm not sure if it's intentional or not but they seem to be suggesting it is biodegradable.
@saraiblack3329
@saraiblack3329 2 года назад
@@MyGreenCloset interesting, I had missed the biodegradable. I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt that they were choosing their words carefully not to outright lie, but I was clearly wrong. Thank you for the clarification.

Hey Verena, Thank you so much for your attention for us! And we appreciate your suggestion which will be a motivation for us to do better. Our original intention for OGL is building a sustainable apparel that is comfortable, affordable and less pollution to our plant. As OGL is a fresh brand founded in 2020, we know deeply that there is a long way for us to do better, including telling a better brand story. And that is also something that we are working for. We are dedicated to visualize our brand content including our fabric, our factory and our production in more easy and transparent measure. Again, thank you so much and hope that you can witness our growth in the future!
