On this week's episode of Going In with Brian Vines, Brian visits 3 Brooklyn addresses where gentrification has made its mark. First, we head to an apartment building in Bed-Stuy where one tenant is on a mission to meet all those who lived there before her. A group of the building's tenants meet regularly to share their renter's rights and stay informed. Next stop: Bushwick, where a group of renters made of mostly immigrants are on a rent strike, as their neglectful landlord seems eager to muscle them out. Finally, we bike over to where Red Lantern bike repair once was in Fort Greene. We see how rent hikes have made it near impossible for small businesses to compete with big developers in gentrified neighborhoods.

This is the best TV show, I have ever watch tonight on RU-vid. I mean, Brooklyn is everyone's home to everything we have. Bed-Stuyvesant is one of the many places in Brooklyn to rent, stay, and meet some of the local resident neighbors.

People have to understand after a while things will be renovated. Building that are old will eventually be bought and remodeled. It sucks but people need to keep up and start buying property.

Very well put together and informative insight into gentrification in Bushwick. I grew up in Bushwick on Woodbine St. between Wilson and Knickerbocker, and even went through the "Black out" era, and never thought I would see this day. However, I rather see my old neighborhood thriving then to see it in decay. Very mixed feelings, and to know Empire Roller Rink is storage now, wow!

A landlord upon completion of his lease should be able to evict tenants. It's absurd that a landlord is expected to subsidize NYC rent rolls. All rent must be based on fair market value. If one can't afford to live there then sadly it's time to move. Now if state, city govt wants to cover the market value of the rent. Also to be fair to the process no landlord should be allowed to right off their loss because they can't rent the unit. This will create a real market not artificial bloated one.

Why should landlords renovate, repair, etc property that they're not getting fair market value rent for?

I’m a fan of chicken and meat by das racist. Just so you know, I watch a fair amount of vlogs/videos on RU-vid. This is a quality video. I expect to see at least 300,000 subs by 2020. Just for the record, “VICE” just covers controversial things where as I see more organic vibes from this channel. So I rather watch this, than over hyped videos. Showing everyday people rather than special, famous people are more interested these days. We have TMZ for that.

A shame about Red Lantern Bikes (and the other stories, too); they built me a great bike when I got interested in biking. It was a fair price, pseudo-layaway and everything. I hate that the city hasn't stepped up more to protect small businesses in these rapidly changing neighborhoods.I love Starbucks and Target and Whole Foods as much as the next person, but I don't need ALL the businesses in my area to be national retailers. It's sad. The homogenization of America, in more ways than one.

Angella Brown isn't that a bar for whites in a black neighborhood?

Perfect phrase: "Homogenisation of America". It's happening in my city. All of the cool old hidden places are gone.
