A new glitch in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has spawned a new strategy that completely changes the way one of the most popular categories is speedrun. One of the most famous tricks in speedrunning history has been retired... but we won't forget the memories it gave us.
To see the new strategy live, follow RIchardSage on twitch: / richardsage
Big thanks to RichardSage, Jolin and Andy for providing some clips. Thanks to RichardSage, Jolin, Lozoots and Bliny for helping me learn about the new strategy.
Please follow me on the these platforms, it really helps!

I don't think there will ever be a game steeped in as much mystery as Ocarina of Time. This game's been surrounded by rumors and intrigue since it came out. Amazed that people are still giving it the "I just KNOW I can find the triforce in this game" kinda treatment this far down the line, even going so far as to make the rumor about the Triforce from 1999 a reality... Like I greatly prefer Majora's Mask over OOT, but OOT definitely deserves its title as one of the greatest games ever, especially with all this attention it still gets.
@Roctrin
@Roctrin Год назад
I wonder if this has to do with OOT being one of the first big 3D games, and the devs were still working out how to code for things like collision detection in a robust way.
@alecrutz6979
@alecrutz6979 Год назад
I think it comes down to the fact that, not only are these games very popular, but also due to their complexity and how early on they were made, which led to many holes slipping through the code. Really think about it tho, there's only so much you can do in a simple little NES game, with a megabyte of storage TOPS. meanwhile the N64 had 64 times that, (64 mb) which is a LOT more than those little NES games. plus adding a third dimension throws a whole new way for games to get screwed with, and due to how many new variables there are to these games, there's so much that can be messed with, that can result in something unintended by the devs
@narnianninja4964
@narnianninja4964 11 месяцев назад

In 2018 I brewed a Double Amber Honey IPA and called it Void Warp after this legendary trick! The void warp was an incredibly hard trick combining fast reaction to RNG, precise positioning, multiple frame perfect inputs, and extremely precise thumbstick positions. It took me more than 10 hours to pull it off the first time, although I wasn't proficient with super slides. Love to see this video send it off properly. The run continues to evolve and progress thanks to the effort of so many in the community, which is both wonderful, and still partially unbelievable.

I had a copy of OoT that was second hand and pretty beat up, this copy had the unique issue of crashing whenever I entered the crumbling tower and effectively softlocked the game. I, as a very much non-speedrunner had to learn the void warp so I could finish the game... I truly have no idea how long it took me to pull it off. @@deckzone3000 "Just abusing glitches" The glitches that get used are in most cases harder than any given technique that is in the intended game experience. And to perform them, you still need to use the same controls that were created for the player by the devs. Doing so requires a level of mastery over the intended gameplay that far exceeds what is required for casual play. "If you wanted to script a speedrun to produce maximum hype, you really couldn't do it any better." I've never heard the appeal of this classic route described more concisely than that. Thanks for this banger of a commemoration piece, this trick holds a special place in my heart and I've never heard anyone so beautifully describe why that is.

This video made me tear up a bit. I’ve been watching oot any% runs since about 2012-2013 watching narcissa, skater, joden, and later on rich. Just watching the first discovery of ganondoor is a feeling I’ll never forget. What a journey. Rest in peace void warp

I’ve only just recently began learning about OoT speedrunning and it is insane to me. I grew up playing the game and only recently beat it as an adult, so seeing people actually managing to fight Ganon as CHILD Link is mindblowing. It’s amazing that this is all accomplished by simply finding the game’s weakpoints and moving and picking up objects in specific places. Now, I say “simply” not to imply it’s easy, because obviously this all requires skill and years worth of knowledge that other people had to discover first. Instead, I use that word to refer to how any person, without the aid of hacking, has the potential to pull it off. I personally would not want to be a speedrunner myself, but I will forever stand amazed at what they accomplish.

I tried learning OoT any% runs back in 2014. I got pretty decent at some of the tricks individually, with no continuity practice yet before quitting to run 100% Banjo-Kazooie. I'm partly glad, because my favourite game had always been Banjo-Kazooie. I never got too great, but to this day I can beat the game in less than 3 hours consistently, without all of the practice I used to have haha. However, seeing all of the fanfare around OoT and the potential to have been great is really mysterious to me. I very much enjoy following OoT speedrunning as a whole, and I think I always will. Thanks for the great videos

I've played OOT countless times and have never once clipped a wall or slide around the place even by mistake. I think it's incredible the time work thought and effort these players put into their runs and their love for the game they still find new ways to better themselves.. fantastic video thanks for putting it together.

Now watching people speedrun their favourite games have only added onto the magic that games really are, passion runs high and i love every bit of it!
