We will soon be at a point where we can simply call them "droids," like they do in the Star Wars universe.

George Lucas derived the word "droid" from "android" it's like making the word van from caravan.

I’m not sure those are actual fingers. What we see as a hand may actually be either placeholder for future hands or connectors for attaching hands to when they are read.

This robot moves like the AMEE robot from the movie Red Planet. This is the stuff of sci-fi!

The hands (or rather forearms) on Atlas are 3 finger grippers. It looks like Atlas supports manufacturing tooling. You could replace the 3 finger gripper they currently have with a drill, a welder, a vacuum, or any other manufacturing attachment. Probably a human hand too, if BD makes some. AFAIK BD is making Atlas for manufacturing first. Figure might be more for home use and Tesla's bot is for surveying. Right now, Atlas looks like the most versatile bot hardware-wise. This doesn't stop here though. In order to have a natural walk, they will probably have to implement toes. If you try walking without bending your toes you might look like some of these robots since you can't really unbend your legs. BD is also behind on software, but they are partnering with NVIDIA, so they might catch up soon anyway.

I think that Atlas 2.0 may be also powered bz openAI, because in some recent showcase thez powered their robo-dog with gpt-4
@sapienspace8814
@sapienspace8814 Месяц назад
The robo-dog is "powered" (in terms of software) by Reinforcement Learning (RL) as indicated by one of their CEO's in an interview. GPT-4 is also "fine-tuned" by RL (though I suspect, this is the LLM "ninja" to quote Yann LeCun, even though he gaslights the usage of RL). RL allows for internal reinforcement and agent capabilities. LLM's without RL do not have agent properties, they are more just tools that do not learn and hallucinate. Reinforcement Learning is likely the most powerful machine intelligence system to date. If you look at the email that came out of the lawsuit between Elon Musk and OpenAI, it was revealed that their "core technology" is "from the 1990's." The first edition of the RL book by Professor Barto and Professor Sutton came out in 1997. One of Barto's students went on to Boston Dynamics. Another student wrote a master thesis in 1997 on Reinforcement Learning Control of an Inverted Pendulum using State Space Classifiers, that combined RL with Fuzzy Logic (a merging of language and mathematics), and K-means clustering (a means of classifying the state space into regions of interest, much like moving your eyes and head to focus attention on regions of interest in space).

This indeed looks scary. I actually see Elon as having the better solution with Tesla bot because he purposefully underpowered the robot. One of tesla bots main criteria is we can overpower it. That’s smart. I don’t think we can overpower this new Boston dynamics robot 😅

I was also impressed initially by its movement, but Atlas was always superior at mobility. Until it can manipulate things with its hands it has not made any progress.

How stupid “You are preventing innovation” idea it's a bad product and he said it's a bad product if the company It went bankrupt, this is their fault. Either the company becomes clear and thus reduces the price, or another company will come that does not lie and continues the path.

Bost Dynamics is miles ahead of everyone else. Good to see them teach everyone else how it's done. The Tesla robot is hot garbage and it doesn't look like that will change any time soon.
@thecooler69
@thecooler69 Месяц назад
Figure has actual utility and will be used for more than just youtube videos, so no, BD are not miles ahead of anything. If they're so far ahead why do their robots never leave the lab? Note also how we only ever see highly edited videos and not livestreams.
@qwertyzxaszc6323
@qwertyzxaszc6323 Месяц назад
@@thecooler69 We will not be seeing the Figure robot anywhere in real commercial use any time soon. It is years and years away from actual usefulness. Boston Dynamics is miles ahead of everyone else. That will not change anytime soon. The new Atlas is slated to start work within months in manufacturing while it's being tested for commercial use. Also, Boston Dynamics has had Spot in real commercial use for years now.
@raul36
@raul36 Месяц назад
@@thecooler69From its origins, Boston Dynamics was a company dedicated to research. Yes, it is far ahead of any current robotics company. The Spot robot, which belongs to Boston Dynamics, is already operating in companies around the world, as well as in the military and police fields. The Handle robot, also from Boston Dynamics, is being used in warehouses around the world. Each and every advance that you're seeing in robotics, this kind of consumer robotics boom, is thanks to Boston Dynamics. Atlas is too expensive a robot. They have presented the new robot not to be left behind because this is advancing very quickly. And they have proven again that they are far ahead of any current company. Before commenting nonsense, read and inform yourself about it and leave the fanaticism for OpenAI aside. It's really disgusting.
@raul36
@raul36 Месяц назад
@@thecooler69Until you have figure right under your nose, just don't say anything. Tesla tricked people into believing it was completely autonomous folding t-shirt, when it was being controlled remotely. Devin, the supposed software engineer, was a complete farce, as it later became clear. So, instead of talking nonsense, just look around and wait until you have something tangible like the spot robot.
