I play a Magic: the Gathering Online Legacy league with a Mono Red Storm / Ruby Storm decklist built around the new Elemental Eruption from Outlaws of Thunder Junction Commander. This card allows you to "storm" from a very low storm count, and makes it so that Name Sticker Goblin is a viable ritual. Birgi, God of Storytelling, Burning Wish, and other storm staples make an appearance too! Also, it's technically a GR deck, as Questing Druid and Pick Your Poison are in the deck too.

What about a single Song of Totentanz in the sideboard? It can be wished for and is a productive outlet for excess mana, also castable for X=0.

I feel like Alchemist's Gambit is just the best option. The extra turn is functional haste, and this card also beats The One Ring.

As pulled from the Magic Comprehensive Rules: 702.16e. Any damage that would be dealt by sources that have the stated quality to a permanent or player with protection is prevented. 101.2. When a rule or effect allows or directs something to happen, and another effect states that it can't happen, the "can't" effect takes precedence. What this means is: The One Ring's protection works by "preventing" damage. Since Alchemist's Gambit says "damage CAN'T be prevented", its effect takes precedence and nullifies this part of the Ring's protection. You still can't target or enchant your opponent, but your creatures will connect.

Hey people recommending First Day of Class in the sideboard it doesn't work, its an instant and Burning Wish gets Sorceries. Song of Totentanz would be an actual wish board target.

I don't know if it's just because this was a deck with a Storm spell that puts dragons into play, but this deck made me have serious nostalgia for Dragonstorm. I look forward to seeing it again in the future (although more likely on opponent's side of the table).

The big potential replacements that spring to mind in terms of "sorcery that can blow up an artifact" for the sideboard are: - Atraxa's Fall - hits artifacts, enchantments, and fliers! And also battles for when it's relevant. Unfortunately is green, but so is PYP - Shattering Spree - 1 mana blow up an artifact, can be replicated if you're worried about counters! or need to answer multiple things! - Smash To Dust - 2 mana to hit an artifact, which is worse than Spree, but does have the mode of 1 damage to things, which could help clean up annoying creatures!

For the end of round 1 I don't think keeping the druids was really the best option since the dragons were bigger and have Prowess built in, so for that one turn they're just more damage at a base level.

I think its good to remember that when you have 4 ofs in the sideboard alongside a burning wish package, its almost always correct to bring in 3 leave 1 for 7 total copies. This isn't always the case - see the lands fight game 1 - but it is good to keep in mind.

In G1M3, would have been better to not cast the 2 Druids and keep the treasures so you can keep more dragons? Considering the dragons have prowess and druids are pretty much Quirion Dryads, aren't they functionally the same in your mono red deck filled with instant in sorcery? You would have probably lost anyway because you topdecked a land in the end, but idk food for thought

No, exile and outside the game are considered different things (the old wording "remove from the game" on old cards no longer applies, now they all exile in the oracle text). You're probably thinking of Karn the Great Creator, but it gets to tutor artifacts from exile because the card specifies "from outside the game OR exile".

That is how it works, but the general assumption about Ruby Storm is that the deck has at least one wincon in the sideboard anyway. So hitting enablers and card selection is generally the better strategy.

I'm still debating whether this version is better than your lower-to-the-ground ruby storm with bonus round and jeska's will? I do think you could carve out a space or two in the board for when goblins just won't get there at the very least. Burning wish, rip some big flyers out when you really need them! Anyways, awesome vid as usual Phil!

I think Round 1 Match 3, you could have grabbed past in flames, gone through the lines again (to dig w/ mana morphose), and then flashed back burning wish to either tinkering or grab pick your poison, to kill Marit Lage?

Yeah, this was my thought, except the second burning wish gets grapeshot and kills opponent then and there. Generally when I think I know a better line though it ends up that I'm still missing something, so...

Burst of Speed would work great in the sideboard, it gives haste to all the dragons and basically plus +1/+1 so you only need 4 for a win

Is Burst of Speed really worth a sideboard slot when you have access to so many other powerful effects that you could be playing instead?

@@ThrabenUniversity Is there something more powerful than letting you win the turn you make your dragons? To me one of this decks main weaknesses looks like doing your thing and making dragons then dying the next turn to OP combing off or sweeping the board. I would drop a pick your poison for 1 Burst of speed, one crypt for Veil of summer and mindbreak and rest of the crypts for 4 Leyline of the void. Crypt hitting your own stuff seems bad and this doesn't seem like a good mindbreak trap deck. The pick your poisons seem really lack luster since they are so bad vs artifact decks and at best you are hoping to hit a murktide or atraxa that's already drawn 7 cards with it. Melt down would be more useful if worrying about the artifact match up. Or Veil of summer vs control

I'd be interested to know what others think about this but I figure it is just wrong to use birgis doesn't empty mana over standard red mana in the pool. There was a few times when there was 5+ red in pool but birgis mana was always used first.

i wonder if First day of class would be a consideration in the burning wish package. being able to just spend 1R to give the dragons haste and kill on the same turn, instead of letting your opponents untap

Obviously not your list but I wonder how good a haste enabler in the sideboard would be. With that last game against the lands player if you could just wish for a concordant crossroads then you could just kill them. Don't know how good that would be in the currrent meta but just a thought I had because I like playing Anger in my stormy red decks in commander

Song of Totentanz might be better. 1 mana instead of 2 really matters when your wincon costs 6. The +1/+1 is functionally the same since the dragons have prowess. You lose one storm but being able to ritual ritual into a half dozen rats might actually be a wincon in the 3% of games that go ultra sideways.

Wondering if it might worth running a copy of Concordant Crossroads-it’s extremely cheap at one mana, and therefore can even contribute to the storm count, and as the deck is already running green there isn’t a huge deck building cost
