The guy who’s motor blew was at a sanctioned auto cross even which was part of a membership that Toyota offered with the car. The reason why they didn’t wanna cover it is because they checked his social media and saw him drifting it. But Toyota corporate did the right thing and fixed it. Lesson learned, always scrub stuff that could give them a reason to not cover it. And also, contact corporate if the swine of a dealer declines, even though you didn’t do anything wrong.

As to MPG going downhill. My 2010 KIA with a 1.4 Lit. 90 HP 4 door hatchback 5 sp. manual (not sold in USA) When I drive downhill the computer that calculates kilometers until empty actually goes in reverse. I would drive 10 km. and when I finish the kilometers until empty would go from like 400 to 405. As if someone was adding gas to my car. When I go uphill the reverse is true. When I drive 10 km. the kilometers until empty would go from 400 to 380. The feature is pretty accurate as far as telling U how far you can drive, however.

Toyota and Subaru have been sister companies for decades they just never screamed it from a mountain top. Toyota was a 40% shareholder in Subaru last I heard and that was a long time ago. They swap engineering all the time Camrys were using their AWD 30 plus years ago. Subaru is the king of AWD. Hey even GM borrowed from them. An 80’s Nova was a rebadged Camry and a Geo Prism was a rebadged Corolla. The Vibe a Matrix. Subbing out for something reliable 😂.

Scotty, I have worked on engines that were absolutely slathered with that old blue silicone gasket maker, and never ran into a clogged oil pump screen. Even if globs of the stuff ended up inside the pan most of it would be sucked right through the screen and eventually stopped by the oil filter. I have heard a ton of wives tales about these cars and I’d bet the actual problem with any of them that suffered an engine failure was hard right cornering, which has been documented as a problem. It seems that there may be insufficient baffling in the sump area of these engines and it has caused oil starvation due to the oil sloshing to the left side and this was always encountered on cars that were raced. What do you think about it?

I bought a 2013 Scion FR-S new and by March of 2020 I had put 186,000 mi on it on my commute. That car is the most fun I've ever had in any car I've ever owned and it is ridiculously reliable. But in March of 2020, I started working from home and a year later retired, so the only thing I use that car for now, literally is to drive back and forth to church every few weeks to keep the seals from drying out. I put nine sets of Michelin SS on that car and here in Kentucky on these beautiful twisties that I drove to work everyday I did my share of drifting, but the tires are so sticky that most of the time it was a slot car. And I averaged 34 miles per gallon. The reason I keep it is because license and insurance are very inexpensive out here and I believe the car has bottomed out in value. It will only be more valuable as time goes on. So I've become that old guy that has a classic sports car in his garage from when he was younger except I wasn't that young. I was 59 when I bought it. This car Harkins back to the days when my friends and I drove Austin-Healey 3000s, opal gts, mg's, etc. I used to own an opel GT and really love that car, but this is like the opel on stereoids. This is also why when I bought the car I bought it with no options and have kept it 100% stock. In many ways I consider this car to be as much of a classic as the first Corvettes or the Porsche Spyder, or the Toyota 2000. Time is going to be very kind to the first versions of this car. In my opinion. By the way, I did my first brake job at 142,000 mi. There was still pad left. They don't use cops to keep speed down around here. They use deer. Watch for deer in you're golden.

I will say there is slight suspension differences between the 86 and the BRZ that lead them to drive slightly different. The BRZ is a little more compliant and the 86 is a little more solid. Personally I prefer the way the BRZ feels and carries through a corner. The 86 feels more connected, but that also makes it feel a little more jumpy and skittish, whereas the BRZ absorbs a little more road chatter.

Scotty is just a mad Japanese lover. Old subaru's lasted over 300k miles easily and new one blew their head gasket under 150k miles mostly if you are lucky. You can still find old 98-2002 Subaru outbacks running in snow with over 200K miles...but never you will find a subaru made past 2004 running with those miles problem free. I am telling by experience because i owned the 99 subaru outback and now i own the 2012 camry. Scotty burned me on this. The 2012 camry is worst than a wolkswagen. .900,000 of them built with faulty torque converter, which also let to many failed transmissions. I am getting mine changed at under 100k miles. And they ride horrible with horrible gas mileage.

@@richsweeney1115 no sir, i did not get a “bad one”. Toyota manufactured 900,000 of those Camry vehicles from 2012-14 with experimental torque converter, which also destroyed most transmissions. But they did not disclose it publicly, only when pressured, they covertly sent out letters to those owners and they first only updated the software, then torque converters and then adding magnets to the transmission. Unfortunately, not all the owners of those 900,000 got that notification and toyota denied to take any responsibility. Now those owners are stuck with that defective vehicle and spending 5k every 50-60k miles to have a new torque converter.
