Proud Tesla Model Y owner from State College and frequently drive out to the burg (Bridgeville) for work. I wish there was a way to encourage Tesla or Sheetz to put a supercharger station along route 22 from Altoona to Pittsburgh, there are zero options until North Huntington, which is really out of the way. Keep up the awesome videos, great seeing those familiar roads!

Agreed! I’m on 22 often and usually stop at the 250 kw charger near state college or at the Weis in Bellefonte when I’m heading east. It’s a void from Altoona to Pittsburgh.

Hey Dan! Good to hear from you. Do you think it's worth to try the FSD subscription now or wait a while?

Hi Gary! I still think it might be worth waiting. On my most recent road trips I really only used standard autopilot for the bulk of them. The extra cost per month isn’t worth the automatic lane changes and navigate on autopilot in my opinion.

Good video. One thing that I think changes things in this case is that people are ironically driving more safely, not so much just because of the score, but rather because they want access to the next best feature, FSD beta. I suspect that they wouldn’t care as much if it were not for that. So some folks who want to pay lower insurance may also see that as a attractive as a new feature, but many others will not, particularly those who got Teslas because they’re so damn quick. But time will tell. Your point about things outside your control impacting the score though is spot on. And that’s one reason I’d be against the insurance counting my score. I’d want that fixed. I sometimes get penalized for actively avoiding accidents or actively increasing following distance. That shouldn’t count against me either towards the FSD beta, or in insurance rates.

Yeah I think it’s interesting that rapid acceleration isn’t something that the safety score accounts for (or at least right now it doesn’t). And the environmental factor is definitely frustrating! As it stands right now it would be “safer” to rush a yellow light rather than risk getting a hard braking penalty. I’m assuming minor tweaks will be made to the scoring system as time goes on and Tesla can collect more user data.

@@KilowattAuto yeah, I hope you’re right. I must admit, if people who tailgate incessantly, particularly when they won’t gain anything from doing so, were automatically penalized by their insurance companies, that would be very nice. Lol.

I recently took the advice of Bearded Tesla Guy after driving over one thousand miles and having a 98% safety score (Damn PA Turnpike) and unenrolled my car from FSD Beta, waited 24hours and re enrolled before driving 150 miles on Autopilot. The Safety score disappeared from Tesla app after unenrolling and hasn’t reappeared despite driving over 150 miles on autopilot. I fully anticipated getting a 100% with todays drive and receiving invitation for FSD Beta 10.3 as many others have done, but still no safety tab under my Tesla App like before. Frustrated to say the least and having serious FOMO as I drive an average of 4k miles/month for my ADT Security Sales job and pretty much live in my Tesla Model Y.

Wow that’s really frustrating. Does your autopilot menu say you are in the queue for the beta again? Maybe try reinstalling your Tesla app? When I first signed up I had to update my app before I started seeing the score. It’s weird that you were initially able to see it and now nothing.

@@KilowattAuto I wish they would correct the blinking crossroads lights on Route 22 between Blairsville and Ebensburg, it makes Autopilot freak out every time, thinking its a light it needs to stop at. I’ve been looking for a PennDOT website chat button to report the issue but none available. My drive from Altoona to Mount Braddock and back netted me a 100% on safety score for FSD Beta, now waiting for email to accept terms and conditions.

Yes I always end up turning AP off with those lights because the braking is annoying. Hopefully with beta that will be a thing of the past for you!

@@KilowattAuto Have you had to buy tires yet? We got our Model Y in June 2020 and had to replace Goodyear OEM at 19k miles, they were down to 3/32. Replaced with Vredestein Quadrac Pro, were awesome in winter and had the 3peak snowflake rating. Unfortunately Vredestein Quadrac Pro wore out at 20k miles (50k warranty) but due to supply chain disruption that tire wont be in until Feb 2022. I had to order the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 which will be delivered mid November. Hoping the ultra high performance can still perform well in snow despite the lack of 3 peak snowflake rating and less aggressive tread pattern. One of the downfalls of getting 20” Induction wheels. Tire Rack is prorating tires once new ones come in so hope it doesn’t set me back much money!

Luckily not yet! I have 23,500 miles on my car with the original tires. I believe they are continental procontact all seasons. I have not checked the tread depth in a while but Iast check was 6/32 a few months ago.
