Oh Boy what a Job !! I'm glad you got to cut down the spot up front where the owner first said to save the poppies. Some of these jobs your tackling are a nightmare but you got it done and did a Great Job !! 🤗 Bless You & Take it Easy in the Heat !
You are making great progress! I think the homeowners would be wise to just grow grass where that center circle of ? Plant was located. It will look nice and be easier to maintain. They obviously mow regularly. Can not wait to see the next chapter. Stay hydrated. Liked the hat. 😊
Yep, it needed to b done.😅 Now 2 put a fresh coat of white paint on there. Next Spring it will b beautiful again. Your Oregon Viewer. We r expecting 82° this August 6th.
The vine growing on side of house with the orange flowers are called trumpet vines, the bush on side of house with the big white flowers is called a snowball plant. Both are very common in Michigan especially up north.
Good job. That yard was a mess. The green and white plants are not weeds, they are for ground cover or sometimes used to surround the taller plants. There is a plant identification app should consider putting on your phone, all you have to do is scan the plant and it will let you know the name and type of plant you are dealing with. Some are free and some are not. They are a very good tool to have when doing yard work.😊❤
You’re a lot better man than I. The first time they suggested that they wanted to keep that mess of weeds and grass “plants” I would have said “fine, have at it”, loaded up and moved on. Not sure where their heads are at. They can’t take care of it now.
She has A LOT going on. She only wanted to keep the poppies up front, everything else I had full control of. It wasn't the homeowner that gave me grief for what I was cutting down, it was some people watching the video. :) It's all good - we're making good progress and the homeowner is thrilled with what's been done. She's been great.
Great job, hydrangeas will grow back, hopefully those tall bushes/weeds won't. Ground really needs digging over. The owner can now access the house to do any maintenance/painting.
I don't think I've quite seen that form of "losing the front steps" before. Thanks for the rescue. There isn't really a way around doing a near clear-cut when things are let-go this much. It is good for being able to see "what is really there" as far as needed repairs, conditions. You earned your victory.
Wow, amazing transformation indeed! You did awesome with that front yard, and I know the homeowner is truly grateful! Keep up the amazing work and I can't wait to see what you do next!
Love watching your channel. The flower beds around the house are probably the same age as the house hiven the types of flowers in the beds. You fid the right thing cutting it all back especially since snow on the mountain and trumpet vine will take over.
yep, I was coming here to say that. Definitely trumpet vine, although trumpet vine is not invasive, since invasive is a term referring to non-native plants that are causing harm to the environment, and trumpet vine is a native plant. However, it is highly AGGRESSIVE, and will absolutely take over.
Couldn't avoid the hydrangeas, they were too long, hopefully they will come back but if they don't maybe she can get a couple new ones. Makes you feel bad I know but they were neglected. Made some progress today. :) Thank you for helping her.
Looks good!! Glad you mowed that patch in the front. She would have had to cut those Poppies down in the fall anyway . I like that you're doing a full transformation in a series. This place is a beautiful old farm and should be returned as such!!❤❤🎉🎉😊😊
UNMD, Doug here, never let anyone say: your old, you're "well seasoned" with life's experiences! Hey, I turn the BIG 6-0 in early November! Great work on the front yard! 🤓😇😁👍🥰🐻😀Doug, from the Royal Oak area of Michigan.
That is a classic response! Just like a guy who is 6'8" tall-saying he's 5'20" then walks away leaving them to wallow in their stupidity. By then, they'll have figured out that 6'8" and 5'20" is the same measurement! I need to tell my sister of the "mid century modern" as a "bad dad" joke!🙄😵👍😁🤭 Doug
Awesome job. You can really see how the beds encroached on the lawn. Were the two flowering shrubs you cut back Hydrangeas? They can take a hard prune but next year the flowers may be fewer in number. It will thrive though and now you’ve cleared round about it, it will be better for it. If the customer wants an easy to look after perennial to fill the beds, I would highly recommend Campanula portenschlagiana. It is low growing and spreads but isn’t invasive. It is also known as Russian Bellflower. The flowers are a beautiful blue colour and it has a long flowering season. You can trim it back and it doesn’t mind. I have loads of it in my garden because it is my favourite. Mine have still had blooms in the depths of a mild winter and I am in the north of Scotland!❤
❤ Hey BUDDY, Looks like it's going GREAT, I'm NOT sure how much more you have planned for on this property but so far everything is turning into a NICE finished product, so just keep Hydrated, Cool and I will CYA SOON NEXT TIME BE SAFE and OFCOURSE KEEP CUTTIN IT UPPPPP BROTHER 🚜🌞✌️👍😁😎🔥🔥🔥💯
I’m with you, all that old overgrowth around the porch should be cleared and set some nice containers in for color. Something they could maintain. A nice tiller job and some wood chips would go a long way.
In the spring when all the flowers come up, if someone mulched, the hydrangeas would have a chance to thrive. The only thing you could have done for them at that point was trimming them back. It keeps looking better and better!!
Better the existing overgrown plants get a big haircut than to try and make do by minimizing and not giving the plant what it needs. The variegated white and green mounded plants in the front of the beds looks like what i have always known as "Hills of Snow", (common name), Glad you left some plants intact, (like the ferns). Great clean up.
People don't realize the amount of work involved in one of these clean-ups. At 17 minutes 50 seconds I thought you were going to show us Bucky Badger propping his head up on his bent elbow, laying on his left side. Ditch the plastic leaf rake. Your energy is better spent using a round tine thatching rake. You'll get twice the clearing with half the input. They fit the sweet spot between the bow rake and a leaf rake. They're not expensive. Unless lost or mowed over, they will last long enough to fit into your coffin when the time comes.
Why not use a tarp to take all your clippings out to the road instead of carrying small loads...our instructor in nurses school said " use your head...save your feet"....glad you have power drinks on board...hope they help with the leg cramps.💕👍🌷🤗
Dont forget to go and plant some of those plants in the backyard in order to always stay active 😆 i am joking 😆 you should take my suggestion of shaving your beard and also eyebrows. If you do all the shaving as i suggest, you will get more spanish/latino viewers on here 😆 also, after you complete a small task, dont forget to yell out oralé. 😆 i am joking about all i said 😆
OMG...I had to skip most of this video. My heart couldn't take all the flowers being completely taken out. It's a clean slate now and you can see the large porch ❤
I would suggest going to your county extension office and picking up a pamphlet on what plants are desirable and undesirable. This will tell you what to remove completely and when and how to prune desirable plants. Good luck!
He did good tho, considering what has overgrown for too long. It totally was looking like a jungle! Now it can start over with a fresh look. A job well done, Bless Brent!! 🙏😇🙏❤️
I think I preferred the before but as I don't know your weeds I have to bow to your knowledge. I'm afraid I'm not a fan of the house yards I see from the US. No one seems to have real gardens.😢
@@isabelkerr712 Plenty of real, very nice gardens in the US. Keep in mind in these types of vids we're dealing with overgrown properties so yards and gardens won't look that great.
This total clearing is SO NECESSARY and long overdue. The lovely jungle jumble has been blocking access to every form of maintenance. The old house has those olden days windows, wherein the "storm windows" of glass are put on in fall for winter, then come spring they are removed and replaced with wood framed screen windows. A really awful job, especially on a two-story house. Plenty are broken, fallen from the grasp of the ladder climbers. Wood rots over the many years. Complete window replacement (including frames) is a necessity, but a great cost. House requires cleaning, repairing, replacement of all rotten woods before painting. (At the least). Foundations DO crumble and require qualified repairs and sealing/caulking. AFTER A LIFETIME of following "professional landscapers" really crap for planning and advice, going with the generational trends of how to "look good" with "no maintenance" etc. I WOULD ADVISE to never plant anything next to foundations. I prefer sidewalks, brick paths or cedar mulch at least 4 foot out. I was stupid and put in decorative rock. DON'T DO IT! Breaks windows, siding, vehicles and people and pets as will get flung by mowers, snow-throwers, etc. forever. Yes, some of these perineal planting could be dug up and moved outward or elsewhere. I would FIRST "Call before you DIG" as there are ALWAYS various types of utilities buried entering around every house. Some are natural gas, many others propane. People OFTEN think their phone lines are one of those many wires from a pole, but more often they are under ground, even too rural! Some places have buried electrical lines. (You never know what some DIYer may have planted!) Therefore, having it roto-tilled could be deadly! The old house needs attention. Keep it cleared, hold a clearance path. No more "out of sight, out of mind, out of luck, out of duty of care." No more "nobody told me"! [To keep the way cleared, I might spray with roundup, cover with thick plastic and have successfully used outdoor rubber mats (without the fuzzy carpet). Mulch, not rock. If you have digging dogs, they might ruin your various landscape fabrics and NONE allow the soil to be even naturally supplemented. Do not plants deep rooted plants by foundations! QUIT looking around and following bad examples! Thanks for listening to tried and tested FAILURES proven false. Old ladies often know way more, especially when they did it all while guys "looked good". Take care there, Mowing Dude"! The good old days are while one still CAN. :) Kris of MN
I mentioned that already - she's working 16 hour shifts as a nurse and taking care of her ill father. I'm not sure how much energy you'd have after a 16 hour day but I wouldn't have much.
Thanks. Not too many people want to work in this heat, especially at 8am on a Saturday. 🙂 I don't mind doing it myself, and yes it's all free. Just meant to be a blessing to others.
I was being careful around those particular flowers I was working around. The other ones had to go. That elephant in a china shop had to hack through a decade of neglect.
@@UpNorthMowingDude Well, I know what you mean, there does come a time when the only thing to do is to start over. I just so love these old flower beds.
I would suggest that you learn your weeds from bedding plants/flowers & ground covers. .. you removed more than you probably should have. My mom would have kicked your butt! Lol
@@UpNorthMowingDude, not true my friend, ground cover is used in front of garden beds all the time. They just needed to be cut back. The good thing is, she was happy and can now plant other shrubs or flowers. Taking the middle garden out was wonderful, made it look so much better. You did a great job. Hydrangeas just needed to be pruned, I have 8 of them throughout my yard. Love your channel.
@@UpNorthMowingDude you did good!! 👌 After the neglect of this yard not being taken care of for so long, I definitely would have told you to just hack it all down! Lol.. You did a Great Job and a job well done! 🤗
I think he did well with the overgrowth he had to deal with. It will be good to start over now with a new fresh look. Also there are much needed repairs that the home owner can now see and tackle. Bless him for his kind deed of helping these people. 🙏😇🙏
