Fuck flat black. I have an 84 an it looks dope wit a satin black with gloss black rims n trim instead of Chrome.. fuckaz look DOPE AF. But I do agree if it still got fresh original paint I wouldn’t change either but my truck was an old ugly sunburned an surface rusted ass red so. I was like na fuuuuuck dat lol
These little trucks made so much more sense than the bloated monstrosities of today's trucks. These were simple, reliable tough little trucks. They were quick and tossable. That's what a truck should be. It's no wonder that these trucks don't last when they go up for sale. Good luck finding one!
Exactly, you get stuck on the side of the road at least you can fix most problems. New trucks haha good luck. You need some dam apple computer program to fix these new trucks. And dont get me started on oil changes lol
Jason Johnson bought a 93 Toyota pickup deluxe 4x4 with the legendary 22RE. The engine had be recently rebuilt and everything in the truck is original, clean, no rust and bone stock. Bought it from an elderly couple for 5500. Now I’m ready for college
This is jewel for us toyota fans these little trucks turbo model are getting rare to find DO NOT RUIN IT by painting anything flat black or whatever it is your truck but it will be worth a lot more as is
Wonderful truck. Here is my 2 cents. But worth only half of that due to inflation, hehe. I can not stress enough to keep it as stock, stock, stock as you can. Unless you plan on keeping it forever, and even if you do, save the old stuff. The intercooler is not stock, cool upgrade but not stock. Over-boosting, will blow the engine. Idle adjustments should be made at the throttle cable, not the air box or the intake. Igniters fail, carry a spare one. There are bushings to tighten up the shifter, easy replacement. I've owned both the truck and the 4runner. Wish I still had that 4runner. Turbos are weak, over heating them will crack the housing, HD housings are expensive. An EGT gauge would be a good idea. I could go on for along time. Damn awesome incredible trucks.
I have a 1986 turbo xcb 2door 2 wheel Dr it has 404000 on it all original runs great allways let turbo cool never ran it hard any ways. With all the miles is it worth anything or just enjoy what I have I am 3d owner.
@@bobatwater5912 depends on condition and location. But worth money. They are rare and hard to find. Especially not completely tore up and rusted out. Last year I came across one and it was about a 5 in condition. Rust holes in seats, dents, broken stuff in and out. Didn't run. It sold for $4000.
That little tank near the firewall is the clutch fluid reservoir. It's a nice old truck. Not too many like examples left, especially in such good shape.
Wow, yes I remember those as a matter of fact one of my best friends in high schools dad bought a 4 runner with that engine, 86 if I’m not mistaken, great truck; for 4 months, my friends little sister rolled it in a ditch totaling it, she swerved for a deer. She was lucky she wasn’t hurt too bad a testament to the trucks worthiness in a rollover.
I am sure someone has told you by now but just in case they havent... the small thing near the mastercylinder/booster is the slave master cylinder which is sorta like the brake master cyl. it just provides the hydraulics for the clutch. Neat truck, I wasnt aware they made a turbo pickup.
Damn nice truck you got there. Keep that jewel as stock as you can get. I know it's been on here awhile but I happened to not see a radiator fan on that engine. Not sure if I over looked it or not. Just throwing that out there. And that small reservoir is for the hydraulic clutch fluid. Sweet truck!!
I learned to drive in an 88 Toyota Pickup standard transmission Red color. Amazing little truck. I bet it’s still running somewhere in Central or South America
Beautiful truck. I have a 1987 Supra and a 1985 Celica Convertible (with a 22-RE) I didn't even know they made a turbo pickup or even a turbo 22-R engine
Porter McSorley they had the 22-R, 22-RE and apparently the 22-RTE. I’ve owned a ton on Toyota’s and this is a 1st for me. The regular old plain R came after the RE which is the weird part.
You got a Chilton's for it? I use that to go through and mark out what maintenance needs to be done when. You can also ID that little reservoir... Yeah, man, that a pretty little truck. Get some comms and a GPS, a deep cycle battery, a winch up front and a hi lift jack in the back. Maybe some pioneer gear and off... you... go... Man you're going to have some fun with that truck way back in the back of beyond.
i know this is almost 2 years old and i haven't read the comments to see if you got answers..... the little reservoir next to power brakes is the clutch master cylinder. there is also a slave cylinder down next to the clutch/bellhousing. i hope by now, if you still have the truck, you have changed all the fluids because the fluid in the clutch master cylinder looks real dark and shouldn't be. with 208K miles you should have changed all of them right after you got it. all means engine oil, coolant, power steering, transmission, transfer case, both differentials, brake fluid and hydraulic clutch fluid....quite an expense if you have it done for you. it's much more manageable if you do it yourself. get yourself a repair manual and go for it.... all at once or a few at a time as you can afford it. you'll learn a lot about your truck. BTW, that's a great looking truck..... ENJOY IT
The main reason it doesn't have that rice sound with that exhaust isn't because the slightly larger, longer stroke 4 banger. It's because the turbo acts as a muffler on its own... Anyways, she's a beaut!
Keep the truck clean and stock, that white hose under the hood is not for emissions, it’s a old vacuum line for a boost gauge for the inside of the truck, not factory stuff.. remove it and put a vacuum cap on where the line came out of. Also take that boost adjuster off the turbo waste gate!!! Make it stock, get the stock equipment!! Bring it to a reputable shop to have the work done.
I’ve never even seen one these before. But I know that California emissions line your pointing out, is not. That’s boost reference line for aftermarket gauge. I know cuz have one these gauges.. thanks for video!
I'm sure you've figured this out by now, but that's more than likely your timing chain causing that obnoxious knock. Great looking truck! I'm restoring an 87 x cab SR5 turbo right now.
Hello , what a beautiful truck man 👍🏼 I have a question for you Wes yount I found an 86 Toyota sr5 turbo cranks but won't run ,we try to use starting fluid but runs for like 1-2 second's and then stall's doesn't have the air filter box and next are like 5 round plugs next to the fender wall (driver side)and I don't know where they go 😮💨😮💨😮💨 any advice I like to buy the truck but it's not running 🤕🤕🤕 please help help help !
Love those. I worked at a Toyota shop for a little while, and someone had an 86 4Runner Turbo, he spent around 12K to get the engine re built, new turbo and all!
AK Janitor Judging by what I see, yours looks like it runs like a top. 22R's, 22RE's and the 22RTE are great reliable engines. The first 22R in my 85 Pickup lasted 250K miles, they will certainly last if taken care of.
Leave shit alone dog I have an 88 Xtra cab pickup completely rebuilt and restored and you gotta keep it stock Especially because it's a turbo that truck is worth alot of money it's very clean
my 86 SR5 turbo never sounded like that. had motor completely rebuilt at dealership with new turbo also. sounded the same before and after with regular exhaust. mine was really quiet.
That white tube on the engine is supposed to go to the boost gauge. The ticking in the engine is likely valve rockers needing adjustment, but most 20r and 22r engines I've heard make some clicking. Also that air fuel ratio gauge should be connected to the exhaust via an oxygen sensor, but if it is only a narrow band unit it is not very useful as they often connect to the stock O2 sensor wiring. If you want real air/fuel readings you need a wideband unit with its own O2 sensor, I suggest the Innovate brand.
You truly have no clue what you have. Don't screw with it. It will be worth much more money in time because it was a limited number and time they were produced. The more you change the less it's worth.
Sir I have a 1986. Now it has 404000 on it. Runs great all original. Never rebuilt. Is it worth anything with all the miles on in 2 wheel Dr 2 door xcab
I don’t know if anybody’s suggested to you but that little vacuum hose that you think is a smog thingy that supposed to be ran to your boost gauge so it will work if it’s not got internal damage
I know this video is old, but that is the original paint on that truck, and i sure hope you took care of her, because you can't find them all factory like that, and in that good of shape.. Just make sure you check the frame between the bed and cab, and back to the rear bumper, to make sure there isn't any rust on it, because some of them had an issue with the frame rusting through.. Sweet truck man, i had two like it, and i'v owned 14 Toyota 4x4's for the 1980 model, to the 1985's.. All solid front axle trucks..
Possible someone peeled off the red turbo sticker. The chrome package was part of the SR5 package in those years, don't ruin with a rattle can. Strange, it doesn't have the SR5 buckets. Looks to be early 90's SR5 wheels. the knocking sound is probably your timing chain guide. and idle should be about 1100-1400 cold down to 900-1k warmed up.
If u haven't yet just buy and install the shift bushings there cheap at the dealer 30 for ball and socket. It will tighten your shifter right up and only a hour job. Also I'm almost positive 86 first year and 89 was last year turbo. Trade grill if u want black there hard to find chrome.
The diesel knocking sound is typical for these engines. If you heard my 22r, you'd think it was really a 2lt. Knocks so loud I have to cut it off at drive thrus lol and it's a fresh rebuild so it's normal.
Just buy a new bumper don't go painting the chrome, but then you'll have to replace the door handles and grille and everything else chrome, nice truck tho thanks!
have not noticed any markings on the intercooler or hoses. We just pulled the radiator and intake manifold last weekend for the rebuild. If I notice any kind of markings I will pass it along to you. Yes on the electric fans.
that emissions noodle is tapped into the breather line for the charcoal canister. Why? i have no idea theres no need for for a gauge to be hooked up to the for it does nothing expect let you canister breathe. (it looks like boost gauge line) id take that t out and so it looks cleaner
Well it is old and has many miles, It kinda knocks when its cold. Im thinking that its the timing chain or tensioner. Also it really lacks power and boost. They were never amazing to begin with. I am planning to have a full rebuild on it soon.
