Totally agree,I've got a couple of them from a Chinese website and they are great value for money .I couldn't be arsed constantly trying to get the real thing and getting frustrated because I can't get one

Hot take, Id rather have the “fake”. As someone who owns a real speedy, and has been more and more annoyed by the way Swatch has handled this rollout of what is essentially a toy, disposable replica, I’m honestly considering buying a couple of these fakes out of spite. I would have bought a Moonswatch for the fun novelty, and to have a quirky beater to wear in the workshop, but I live 5 hours from the closest swatch store, and there’s no way I’m making the trip hoping they may have a $250 watch in stock. The Moonswatch is made in the absolute cheapest way possible, and Swatch’s margins are insane for the gimmick. I’d rather spend $30-$50 for something of the exact same quality, especially if it lets me spite Swatch for cheapening the brand.
It's interesting to hear in the comments how many ppl share your opinion and are so annoyed and frustrated with how Swatch handled the launch that they'd happily buy a counterfeit/replica. I imagine same ppl would never buy a fake Rolex or Omega etc. Swatch (and by association Omega) have clearly messed up and created a lot of bad feeling in the community. Knowingly buying a fake luxury watch is like lying to yourself and everyone around you, it’s always worth saving for the grail watch, or buying the best quality you can afford. That’s why I hate “fakes,” it never scratches that itch. Swatch, on the other hand, is already largely scamming people with a crazy overpriced toy that they forced Omega to put their name on. I don’t blame Omega for this, they don’t have a choice. But the fact that swatch is treating a watch worth less that $15 in parts and labor as though it’s an investment piece worth waiting for is insane. No one is buying a Moonswatch as a luxury purchase, and no one is buying fakes because they can’t afford them. In this case I almost think buying the fake is more respectable. 😂
I've been going to the London stores every month since the Moonswatches came out (I live in Manchester) and they're always out of stock. So I've bought the ones I wanted from AliExpress instead and am more than happy with the purchases. Well done Swatch Group, you've made me purchase my first fake replica watches!
I agree with the idea of buying the replica since you have got the real speedy, however since you have the real expansive one I don't see the is a need to buy the toy one or a replica, there are other brands that have better feel/made watches for a reasonable price not to mention that they are original and will last long
Great video! I was almost scammed with a fake moonswatch here in Hong Kong a few weeks ago. The fake looked very convincing but having an original mission on earth there's a few obvious differences that can help people tell the difference: 1. The chronograph on the original moonswatch ticks like a quartz second hand, while the fake actually sweeps more like a mechanical one. It's very noticeable once you see the difference. 2. The material of the case has this more transparent look to it. A real moonswatch made of bioceramic holds its color through out, while the fakes appear more glossy and transluscent. 3 The box of the original moonswatch has this rough texture to the outer sleeve, while the fakes have a smooth texture. The text on the box also has this printed look on the fake, while the real ones don't. 4. Finally, and crazy enough, as you mentioned in the video they are using sapphire for some of these fakes, while the real moonswatch is using an acrylic crystal. As such, you should be able to make out small hairlines on the real moonswatch's crystal that can be buffed out using polywatch, while the fake will look too scratch-free to be acrylic. I hope this helps anyone out there avoid buying a fake moonswatch when they are paying for a real one! Keep up the great work!
The right hand chrono subdial usually works as a 24 dial on the fakes, despite the markings (this one seems to), although I have one VERY cheap 'Omsan' marked lookalike that has no working chrono at all, so (if it was marked Omega/Swatch) would look right (IE that subdial would always point up, regardless of the time shown by the main hands) in photos.
What i think is the worst... is the fact that a chineese clone may turn out to be better and cheaper than the original. Why should someone buy less for more... just because a brands name ? Honestly I dont think so.
I was at first excited at the announcement of the moonswatch, then as time went on I lost all enthusiasm and now think it was a bad idea. Most people wanted to flip them for a quick buck. Not a fan.
Pagani design release something nearly similar to moonswatch,but they used the seiko vk46 movement in their watch,together with stainless steel body and sapphire crystal,the back case had a picture of rocket on it,i think the price are around 70 dollars

Hey Simon, glad you enjoyed the video and I agree that Swatch Group has enabled the counterfeiters with its policy to selling these watches. What I didn't mention in the video, but I've heard a lot about anecdotally, is that a lot of the Swatch store staff are buying the watches themselves and flipping them. I really hope this isn't the case.

Hi Simon, great video, thanks! I did just order a replica and heard others talk about how the sub dials function differently from the original. You mention the 3 o’clock being linked to the hour/minute hands. Could you give more info or an example, as I can’t envision that? And does one of the sub dials count the elapsed minutes, so that the chronograph is useful beyond 60 seconds? Thanks for any info!
I bought a similar replica Omega Swatch the 1/10 sec dial@ 3:00 is a 24 hr GMT Yes when you start the stop watch left sub dial does count up to 60 minutes the bottom sub dial (Seconds) runs all the time My movement is a Sunon PE 50

I went back to check the price I paid on Aliexpress when filming the video and the seller is no longer active, so not sure if they have been removed from the platform for selling replicas. I'm sure it won't be difficult to find another seller.

Exactly what I was thinking and about to type until I saw your comment! I was wondering when fakes would appear as soon at the London debacle ensued, I mean, the counterfeiters have been fooling most with harder to fake stainless steel watches, so a plastic one was always gonna be so easy. W'll have to wait until Swatch fix the leaking dye issue, which is the reason why there are none in the shops.
I got scammed buying mine from eBay. I was able to get my money back though. It looked genuine in the pictures but when I actually got my hands on the watch, I discovered so many issues.

However, most demand has cooled after customers have been frustrated with wait lines, limited store location offerings, limited supply, and faded/poor quality. Not to mention scalpers and counterfeiters. Swatch group had a good thing and fumbled
Completely agree. If they'd handled the launch better, waited until they had sufficient stock to meet more of the demand and sold online from the start, they could've avoided so many issues and ultimately sold many more watches.
That will teach Swatch Group to limit and hype this plastic nonsense to Swatch boutiques only, rather than making them legitimately available to buyers on their official online outlets. The real losers sadly will be the watch buying public.
@@Escapement24 I doubt it. It’s scarcity principle in action. Rolex, ferrari, supreme, nike, tons of brands do it. Counterfeits are factored in as the cost of doing business with this model. The real goal isn’t to sell units it’s to create brand recognition and elevate the Cache of Swatch group, which posted its first ever loss along with plummeting in store sales. If these watches all the sudden were widely available no one would care in a few weeks and the Omega name would fade back into its niche circles of watch enthusiasts. Like it or not, this marketing strategy is working exactly as intended. But I agree with your point, people should avoid resellers unless they’re willing to accept the risk of buying fakes
I get what you're saying, but Rolex and Omega spend significant amounts of money trying to take legal action against counterfeiters and even the governments of the countries that don't crack down on them as hard as they would like them to. Completely agree that the MoonSwatch is a very clever (and successful) marketing tool that's benefitting both of the brands involved.
It's not really 'teaching' Swatch, though is it? The loser will be the person who pays a premium over retail for the real thing and gets a fake. I bought a supposedly 'sterile' dialled Moonswatch-alike from AliExpress and it arrived Omega x Swatch branded, but at least I didn't think I was buying the real thing and paid an appropriate price. People buying on eBay/FB groups/etc may not be under the same impression. Worst of all, though, is Swatch's admission that they're feeding the 'reseller' market by letting the scalpers have priority access to the supply - I don't really feel too bad about having a fake under these circumstances.
The barcode you showed was for a Mission to Earth Watch. I checked it with my QR Scanner on my phone. That in itself is a bit of a dead giveaway for it being fake.
Well, at least it’s really easy to spot the fake ones, there’s just not enough margin in faking a watch with a somewhat low price point to make the fake convincing. So I would say, keep your eyes open and you’ll be all right. Congrats on 1000 Subs by the way, great achievement 👍👍

That's exactly the point of the video. If you were buying this on Ebay, you might never know it's fake as most ppl have never seen a real one to make a comparison.
I don't see how the "cheap Chine fake" is anymore cheap or fake than the Swatch plastic, quartz MoonSwatch... For 1/10 the price, how can you go wrong if you want a MoonSwatch? Buy the fake and have fun with it. Hell, buy the whole set for the price of one Swatch plastic, quartz MoonSwatch.
To be honest, when I heard about the release of these, I said to myself I'd get a few of them. No issues spending 250euro's on one, so thought I'd get 3. I wanted the Earth one, a Mars and an obvious choice, Moon. Not realizing how extremely hard it is to get one, I found myself without one. Still liking the idea of having one, I decided to look into the rep market and stumbled upon a seller with some remarkable quality (when I say remarkable quality, I'm referring it to the quality as that of an original swatch). and the price was low.. very low infact I ordered 4 for around 200 euro's delivered straight to my door. Upon Inspection.. the packaging... The same.. boxes, the same.. Examined them, and yep.. almost identical. So. To sum it up, I'd absolutely no issue in giving swatch the 250 for one of them. But I can't. And I aint paying the resale price of circa 600ish in which some are going for, for a plastic Swatch watch - when you can pay the same or a bit more for a quality Tissot.. (also owned by Swatch group btw), Bit like walking into a Rolex boutique asking for a new Submariner, or a Hulk for RRP. You just can't do it, and lucky to get on a waiting list for one.. Until they call you offering you something completely different, like an explorer or a milgausse. So am I happy with my rep purchase of 4 Moonswatches? Of course I am. At the end of the day they're just a fun looking quartz watch that tell the time, and when the battery runs out, throw another one in and off you pop. The Rep market wouldn't have happened if Swatch simply made these available online, but it seems to me they are still trying to make them "exclusive" in a sort of way, which backfired and created a rep market which people will obviously go for regardless of how cheap the Swatch watch is. IT's just not accessible.
Yes the chronograph function works but the subdial at the 3 position seems to be a 24 hour display that tracks the hour hand, rather than recording 1/10th secs as per the original.
I've bought two. Thankfully, I only paid £42 each, which is still a lot of money & I've only thought of searching for identifying a fake after they arrived. Fair dues though, they look the part, the workings feel a bit flimsy when I adjusted the time & that's a concern. I'll look out for an original anyway for my sons birthday. Great video, I wish I'd have thought earlier.
Was the Chronograph working? If no, that would be a straight giveaway. I see the chrono hand sweeping (instead of ticking with the real thing), but do the pushers actually work, or does it constantly run like this? Great vid again!
Hi Tom, the chronograph works and is operated normally by the pushers to start, stop and reset (I just let it run for a lot of the footage as it looks more engaging!). However, the 3 o'clock subdial doesn't function in the same way as the real MoonSwatch and is instead linked to the hour/minutes hands.

It came from AliExpress but the store/seller I bought it from no longer exists (I went back to check the price while making the video and they had gone - possibly removed for selling counterfeits? Other sellers aren't hard to find however if you type "moon watch" or similar in to the Ali search, but I'd buy from the ones with the highest ratings if you want one.
The unspoken truth here, is that it wrecks the re-sale value of ANY second hand MoonSwatch. How can you possibly know it's definitely kosher? Together with the fact that, if you get a fake, you might be getting a *better* watch and may well be happier wearing it. Since it's crystal is probably stronger than the box, and it doesn't p!ss dye on your wrist. The MoonSwatch leaves me cold. In this rare instance, they deserve to be ripped by Chinese cloners.

You can get them on DHGate for $30. With a box. Gotta say it’s Quartz it’s not horrible.. Is the real one better quality? Yes but a fake Rolex that cost $80 - $100 when a real sub is $10K is a massive difference then a quartz swatch..

Everybody is going absolutely CRAZY about the moonswatch. Even watch enthusiasts I'm familiar with. I don't get it. 260 usd for a plastic quartz watch with a velcro strap? I mean I understand the history of the original? But calling this a collectors item? I'd rather get the FAKE to be perfectly honest. Or better yet, but a citizen, Seiko or some microbrand chrono. Better specs, and better quality too.
The Swatch is a Swatch - over priced, over hyped, cheap non-serviceable movements and not worthy at all of the Omega branding. What were Omega hoping to gain from this? They do not even stock in in their stores? Fully recommend to get the knock-off, knock-off version to save your money.
Dear swatch group you are not the only game in town, and you have stopped me from even wanting to buy any Omega product, hello GS hello G-Shock hello all German watches, and micro brands. Your plastic watch, with the cheapo quartz mvt could have been awesome for prospective buyers like myself who (were) interested in buying a real Omega watch, to get a plastic lookalike watch that could make up my .ind or not.
Hard to disagree with your points. I was excited about the concept of the MoonSwatch at launch, but over time, hearing of the various quality issues, the u-turns in policy to sell online then not sell online, the way Swatch has enabled the scalpers and now how their approach to supply is enabling counterfeiters, I'm not sure I want one anymore.
@@Escapement24 honestly I would pick the counter fit you have over a real moonswatch, they killed wanting an omega for me, just got my self a steelix eclipse with solar, sapphire glass, screw in crown, Epson mvt , with my name engraved on the watch for $220 , rather than a plastic watch with a crap everything for 260 if you are lucky.
These are just plastic quartz watches, this craziness is really out of control. To be honest, there is no Swatch store at where I live and I cant be bothered to travel for the purpose of buying one : reason one, I have to jump on a plane no matter what; reason two, chance of being empty handed is way too high. The cheap fake seems to be a great offer, just click and wait. Why not?
Looks like you really know very little about these replicas. They cost $29 on Alibaba, the box set costs $10, and there's one way to tell the replica from the gen, and it's function related, but you didn't even mention it because you clearly don't know it.
I don't pretend to be an expert on replicas (but I know enough to know that the smooth sweep of the mechaquartz chrono hand is one giveaway). Congratulations on missing the point of the video, which is that if someone's looking at one of these for sale on Ebay they wouldn't necessarily be able to tell whether real or genuine from pictures.
A fake of a fake that's better than the original fake? The only reason I even wanted these silly things is because the color combos were fun. Now with Swatch backtracking on online sales and the "local" Swatch store being an hour drive away and never having stock, the hype is just over for me. Not to mention I bought my "fun" watch, an orange dial Seiko 5KX for $200 brand new. You know, a stainless steel watch with a good mechanical movement over the Swatch being a throwaway piece of plastic...

The burning desire to own the Moonswatch has also cooked for me - if I have an opportunity to buy one I probably will, but I won't be going out of my way to get one. I don't think we're alone in this either and rather than artificially keeping demand high, I wonder whether Swatch group's policy with this one will actually result in far fewer sales than if they'd have made it available online a few weeks or so after the retail launch. I have a Fortis cosmonaut chronograph that I wear all the time but I don't like wearing it when I'm out on my motorcycle. So I have ordered a ali Express moonswatch knowing it's fake but I will be perfect for when Im Out on the motorcycle.
Hi got a fake one and it looks the bollocks have been asked where I got it from.mine came with loads of stuff the box is good all paper work instructions.not bad for forty pounds.took two weeks to arrive have seen a real one they are so light!!!!!

So I had the real Mars watch. Walked into a store and 3 minutes later walked out with one lol. No lines no waiting and fully in stock. 9 days later I returned it and got the Pagani version instead. I am so much happier. Sadly the Swatch is total garbage. Within 7 days of light wearing it (driving most of the time) it got bad scratches from NOTHING. I had to even buff out the scratches just to return it. Even when I returned it the store rep was like "yeah these have some issues". For $35 I'd consider getting a fake especially if the glass is actual freaking glass. My recommendation: don't buy a real one, buy a fake if you KNOW it's fake. I usually don't say that but these are bad. If you want an Omega get a real Omega. If you want a Swatch get any of their other watches. But don't get this collab. It's bad. Really bad. Don't make the mistake I did. I own $10 watches from Temu that are way better and no I'm not joking.
I agree. It just goes to show how inexpensive these watches must be to manufacture (though I guess the material costs for the bioceramic case are likely to be higher than whatever cheap plastic the counterfeiters are using).
The fake MoonSwatch is either in plastic body or...metal body. Not one as far as I know is using bio+ceramic (polymer binder plus mineral powder). Yes, dont buy online, too risky. Here in Southeast Asia fake MoonSwatches cost from USD 20 (white carton box, no pictures, non working chrono) up to USD 200 (working chrono, good lume, 99.9% carton material, designs and pictures), online. That fake in this video is one of the best out there.
I've seen so many reviews of these online where they're absolutely fake. Anyone who doesn't buy their watch from a brick and mortar store is very probably buying a fake.
Great Video! but in the other side, with omega and Swatch playing with people and these watches feeding all that grey market with stupid overprice, for sure these will be sold by A LOT and this one is the old one, there are new ones in Aliexpress that are really accuarate.
I got a fake when trying to secure a gift for my daughter. Took a ton of comparison photos with a real MoonSwatch. Bezel and case are monolithic. Strap is longer. Strap construction is different. Edges are faded. Crown and pushers look very plastic. And mine had no “S” on the crystal. Working with the online site to get a refund.

This one is pretty obvious that its fake because it's a mercury but it doesnt have a grey face like the real one. It has an all black face. But its cool looking

Swatch handled this very badly. Just to think that is a plastic watch for 260€. I believe that is a very good looking watch for a casual outfit, but to be honest, not for that money. I am against counterfeit watches, but in this case I would buy the fake one, for 30 euros or so. It is plastic too, with sapphire crystal better than the real one in scratching.

I priced real Omega watches and they are ridiculously expensive ..however this makes them more exclusive which is the whole point of expensive watches.Even so, getting a fake cheaper version of an Omega(ie mostly Swatch parts except for the name) is a real kicker...nearly as bad as my 2 fake Casio F91W bought on line.

Just purchased the fake from a well known website. I paid $24 and bought the Pluto version. When I get it I will check back in. I hear the fakes are better than the actual real watch.
