The woman's picture on the wall was his mother. His wife, June Carter Cash, was the woman on the stairs and she died a few months after the video was made. Johnny died only months after June. When he closed the piano lid, he never opened it again.

Him and his wife died a few months apart. He picked this song because it best described his personal life that most people don't get to see. He believed in the Lord, but he had addictions that hindered him throughout his life. I felt like he knew his life was coming to an end and wanted to let confess his sins to everyone as the Lord says to do. This song let him do just that.

Actually, Johnny didn't want to do it. It was producer Rick Rubens idea and rubens had to change some words before Johnny agreed. June Carter passed 3 months after this video and Johnny left 6-9 months. Knowing Johnny's history this song put a voice to a lifetime of personal issues, we all could find some truths in this song.

@@biffmifflin1829Thanks for correcting them, so I didn't have to. I see so many people in comment sections that give false information about this song and I hardly see anyone correct them. It's like since the song struck such an emotional chord with people and it was at the end of his life, people use their emotions to interpret and give false information, rather than using their heads to give true information. A lot of people make Johnny seem like he was a sad and regretful person because of this video, when he was actually very much at peace and a faithful man.

Johnny did a great job on this song, made it his own... However I still like the original singer and writer of the song Trent Reznor playing it unplugged. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vQRmCy6LfjI.htmlsi=vw8AOlALbZKOcCzb

Great song. I cry every time I hear it. He’s been through a lot in his life time. Dirt poor. When he was young he lost his older brother in a terrible saw accident. His father was a drunk , and blamed him for the accident. And he was a drug attic for many years. Thanks for doing this song, I still get chills! Another spot odd reaction!✌💙

When Trent Reznor wrote this song, he was singing it from a different place. It was dark and brooding. And then comes JR Cash. It was as though he was singing his eulogy. He knew his time was short, and this was the song to be remembered for all time. The end of this video always hits me pretty hard. When he closes the lid on the piano and wipes it down, it's as if to say "Goodbye" There will never be another Johnny Cash.

He spent his entire life trying to gain his dads affection who blamed him for the death of his brother. Johnny developed a drug addiction. Spent decades trying to win june over. Finally did it. Wore black for the poor and down and sung in prison for prisoners. She died not long after this video. Johnny followed shortly. He lived a hard life but found peace as he got older. But he lived with so many regrets.

Johnny was as much a Rock Star, as he was a Country Legend. He walked the Line... Though this song was a depressive suicidal song, by a member of Nine-Inch-Nails. The Author has relinquished ownership. Claiming JC's version was superior. It's meant to HURT, because Johnny put his own sorrows in the expression. Go listen to "Minstrel of the Dawn", by Gordon Lightfoot. It'll cheer you up.

The needle tears a hole.....Johnny Cash battled addiction. This is nine inch nails song about addiction. It is about the loneliness and destruction you cause when you are living the addiction. I made it through my alcoholism but the one line that is haunting is the one try to kill it all away, but I remember everything. It is true, the pain you are trying to kill you remember all you have done after. I heard this song first when I was recovering and listened to it to keep me from backsliding

There is no other Artist that can hold a candle and come close to Johnny Cash, in my opinion. He wrote 3 books, i encourage you to find and read them. His music fills my collection, albums, cassettes, CD's. I met him 3 times in my life...the 3rd time he actually remembered me and we had an epic conversation. The film, Walk the Line, is a 10! I encourage you to see it, just to experience a few things; his love for June Carter, her love for him, what love has in store for you when it swallows you whole like a Tsunami on the shore...you think you know...that's a Rookies opinion. You can review any of his songs, in my opinion...and your life WILL change. His music has kept me alive, sane and grounded. You don't need to go to church on Sunday when you've got Johnny Cash music in your collection; It Ain't (!!!) Sunday without Cash...find your own church within. When you do, you will redeem your soul and rejoice in the lessons. ---" I fly a Star-ship...across the universe divide...and when I reach the other side..."

Hi there. Just found your channel 2 days ago and I absolutely love what you do. Especially with Home Free. I am a serious homefry. LOL. You refer to this song as a ghost rider vibe. Johnny Cash actually did a version of ghost Riders in the sky. The song “Hurt” was originally done by a band called 9 inch nails, but the way he lived his life, it feels like the song was made for him. He started making music when he was in his 20s and then unfortunately he got involved with heroin and other drugs. The woman you see looking down at him is his wife June who died three months after the release of this song and Johnny then died about six months later. At the height of his career when he was doing heroin, his family actually disowned him, so one of the verses that he sings “everyone I know goes away in the end “I think fits him very well because he also used to push people away. Well that was a bit of a novel. LOL sorry about that. Please keep on doing your videos because you do them so well. Blessings to you from England.

Hi sweetheart. I hear you about ghost Rider. This song always reminds me of the movie. The lady in the picture on the wall is actually his mother whom he was quite close to because he wasn’t very close with his father because his father wouldn’t accept him because Johnny actually had quite a bad drug habit. His drug of choice was heroine and cocaine. The lady standing on the staircase is actually his wife June who actually died three months after the release of this song and Johnny died six months after her. The song was originally done by Nine Inch Nails but they allowed him to do it because it best described his life with his drug habit and his ability to push people away. I hope you’re doing well and please take care of yourself and many blessings to you from the UK. ❤

Fun fact: While high on amphetamines Johnny Cash started a 500 acre fire that killed 49 critically endangered California Condors. He was fined $800,000 (adjusted for inflation) and nearly caused the species to go extinct. The guy ended well but was a jerk for most of his life. He was arrested 7 times but never went to prison.
