Paul George SHOULD be the biggest name in NBA free agency right now, but between the LA Clippers and the Philadelphia 76ers, nobody seems to want him. #paulgeorge #nba #nbafreeagency
fr people acting like pg to the sixers gonna swing them to a top 2-3 team in the east instead of just being a bye round for the celtics with more big names on it
@@alxx292act like Paul George hasn’t been in the league since 2010 choking his way through the playoffs. There’s a reason folks call him “Wayoff P”. Plus he’s injury prone. He’s not a max contract player.
@@ilikecinema33 I never said he was a max contract player lol but if there’s a team desperate enough to give it to him he will get one whether you like or not because player contracts don’t always matchup to how good a player is
Most player contracts aren’t about how good a player is. Using a 6 game sample size to judge a player and decide against him in free agency means you miss the opportunity to make your team way better. For example the sixers wanted pg because it showed embiid that they are committed to building a roster around him and in my opinion because they become a contender if they do get him. Not because they actually think he deserves to be paid like a top 10 player.
@@alxx292 i get what you’re saying. i’m no GM obv, but i wouldn’t waste so much money for someone who only had to show up for 6 games and failed to do so. i’m a harden fan (only bc i grew up on him) and they both deserve ~$20mil/yr since they are so streaky in the playoffs- which is realistically the only part of the season that matters
@@alxx292no that’s not competent at all from a competent gm or a winning player. Sixers major weakness was their depth, adding another mid star that’s always injured does nothing for them. Judging pg in the playoffs is fair that’s the only reason they getting this dude. Sixers should aim to get a backup big, OG, and then more young pieces. Fuck embiid he most likely is not the answer to a chip
The kawhi-PG era should go down as an all time failure. They had one healthy playoffs together and blew a 3-1 lead. I thought giving kawhi another extension was dumb and this would be even dumber
I actually hated it. That season with gallo Harris SGA was the best clippers season in my opinion. I’ve been watching clippers since 2000. And that team was fun fast so much potential unlike the Blake CP3 years. So when they traded SGA I knew well the cap is dead for years the roll players aren’t going to be top notch. It’s frustrating to watch this current team. Really hope they blow it up fire the GM and pull a Utah OKC and bring in youth and draft picks
Paul George is currently the biggest loser in the NBA right now. He hasn't been a winning player since 2021 and hasn't been focused on winning since than. He's always had an excuse or complaint ever since he came to LA. Didn't like how Doc used him, didn't want to facilitate the offense cause it took to much energy, didn't like how Harden ran the offense, he doesn't want to to the dirty work. He wants a MAX CONTRACT to just go out there and have fun and nobody wants that.
Sounds like the Klay Thompson situation where he wants a three-year deal and the Warriors only offered him a two year deal based on his production this past season.
I'm fine with the idea of having Paul George as your big FA signing, but nothing above $30 million a year. Went through Tobias pains for 5 years. I don't need to watch another situation in which we can't sign a bench for 4 years.
@@getsomemoney2433y’all need to stop lol. Tobias can’t hold PG’s jock. @TheTrueAnswer then you aren’t happy getting him because he’s a max guy. Not 30M
How are you saying the Warriors would not be a contender with Curry, PG and Draymond... alongside Kuminga, Podz, GP2, TJD and their other young core players? They would be one of the favorites! They can either do a trade package with Wiggins, Klay and some draft picks or other young player, or can release Klay, trade Wiggins for picks, and offer George a contract. I don't know the details of the money, but I know there is always a way to make it work. That has to be one of the most likely destinations for PG, just because he's a perfect fit.
it sux that he is like 34 yrs old, if he was younger, i think he would be great for Miami. but him being a little older, idk if he could get to the MAVS. to have Luka, Kyrie, and PG13? damn, that would be nice.
If Paul George opts in and gets traded, he'd be putting off his contract extension by a year, risking injury and potentially losing even more value on the market. He should sign a deal this off-season with whoever even if it means a three-year deal or a four-year deal in which the fourth year isn't fully guaranteed.
That 4th year needs to be a team option for the Clippers to do that. It seems like a lot of teams are hesitant to give 4 year maxes to aging players, especially with the implications of the second apron
I think GM's are getting more intelligent and realizing it's not a good idea to sign injury-prone guys in their 30's to a full max with all the years. Paul George may find that no one wants to give him a 4th year.
Clips just extended Kawhi. MIL leveraged all their depth for 33 yr old Dame. Klay gonna get 25-30 mil from someone. Theres always gonna be a team willing to overpay for marquee talent, even if it comes w substantial risk. A good rule of thumb w NBA gms is to never assume they've "figured out the market" bc it only takes one team to disrupt said market.
What other choice do the Clippers actually have? They have no picks and they have no bench players so if they don't bring back Paul George then what? Then you just have kawhi Leonard and James Harden? Either way to me it feels like the Clippers are screwed.
We all saw how to treat an injury prone player (KP in Boston). Teams just need to figure out the perfect strategy for making sure PG can play in the playoffs.
As a clipper fan, I hope clippers don’t resign him. Either let him walk or trade him. He’s not a top guy anymore and thinking of $200m to him would destroy this teams future. GM already messed up and sign kawhi better not sign PG. I’ve seen warriors and lakers are interested. If lakers offer Austin filler and picks it’s a yes and if warriors offer kuminga filler picks it’s a yes. Either way the clippers should want to get off PG and get younger and get picks asap
Cool, you know he can opt in right? If he doesn’t get an offer I see him opting in and getting traded. Gets his $48m for the year and then gets a new contract next year. He hasn’t opted out or in yet.
Which is why if the clippers are offered kuminga you say yes because that’s probably not happening. But with the lakers if you get three young players Austin hood etc plus first that’s also an easy yes. Austin has potential and those picks could end up being huge if they are unprotected. Future laker firsts would be valued throughout the league. Use those to bring in more players. But honestly I just don’t want them to resign PG
@@gooseallie4417 again, youre not getting Kuminga. If Dubs didn't trade him last year when his value was high just based on potential, they're certainly not trading him after the breakout year he just had. There is a very real possibility Kuminga's next 3 years are better than PG's. Go ahead and forget about him leaving the Bay. And if you get the baby Lakers you're taking a big step backwards into the middle of the pack. The most realistic situation is that Clippers are just gonna stay mid at best, bc they got nothing in the pipe as far as youth. I get that "youth" is the reason you'd want the Lakers' package but Reeves + Rui isn't anything that moves the needle in any significant way. Clips fans kinda just have to accept the Kawhi thing is/was a bust that sets them back the rest of the decade.
The perfect situation would be a trade to the Kings. Herter, Barnes, Davion, and picks for PG. PG goes to a team that doesn't need him to carry the scoring and will be fine with him missing some games due to injury and rest. Just be a solid defender and contribute offensively. He'd thrive with Sabonis setting him up. And if he pushed the Kings to become contenders, PG gets a ton of credit. Win, win.
There is only small number of players over 32/33+ that should be on max contract. Don't understand why older players getting better contract in later years than they got in primes, or at least contract 4/5y contract should go lower from year to year not higher (making problem in team building). Sorry for bad English
What’s so hard to figure out mid 30 player on the decline who is going to end all your flexibility to make moves. Take away the apron it’s a different story.
I could see him weirdly in Charlotte. Mentoring the person that called him his goat feels like a cool way to ride into the sunset. Think about how Kevin Garnett went to the wolves to mentor KAT
Huge okc fan I have yet to be explained as to why we are unrealistic. He said his main parameter is he wants to play the game the right way. Hes been here before and didnt hate it. We need his 3 and D off ability and his ability to get a bucket on the ball he’s a perfect fit and we have the cap space and we wouldn’t even have to give up our picks bruhhhhhh
His market is tough because I think most teams believe he wants to stay in his hometown of LA so they don’t want to go all in & then lose out on everyone. As far as playoff PG, I believe that Harden’s style of play screwed up both PG & Kawahi. Harden is the primary ball handler & they have to play off of his vibe. As we all know, his vibe changes under pressure. I’m not as down on the Sixers getting him as most. I think he’s a perfect fit & can take some pressure off of Embiid who I believe is ready to share the work load. My only concern would be the depth & role players.
George is 34. For men peak is 27-32ish. I think we've been spoiled for lack of a better word by LeBron. He is most certainly an outlier. Remember Melo. He fell off a cliff after 32.
I dont think the Knicks would want him but if they end up actaully trying to trade for him they could also use mitchell robinson in the trade since there are rumors right now of the Knicks potentially trading him away
He’s old, always hurt, and vanishes in the playoffs. Add to that the new 2nd apron thing making it more a league of 2 max contract guys on a team rather than 3 and it makes perfect sense to me that no one wants one of their 2 “stars” (by contract anyway) to be that guy. If he wants to be a MLE guy then heck yeah, but long as he’s wanting max $ no legit contender is gonna want him
It's funny you talk about the 2nd apron. The Mavs could actually work out a trade for PG that benefits both teams salary wise. Dallas sends THJ, Kleiber, and Josh Green to the Clippers for PG. Dallas stays under the 1st apron, and the Clippers save enough money to get back under the 1st apron. Now, would Dallas be willing to give PG the deal he wants? I'm not sure, but if Dallas could get him on a 3-year deal, I wouldn't complain.
Hear me out. I know this sounds crazy: Wemby showed this season he is the real deal and arguably could have been DPOY. He is also extremely competitive. Pop is getting up there in age but he still has what it takes to get another chip. Spurs should trade Keldon Johnson, Sochan and 2 firsts for PG. Spurs should then trade Cedi Osman, Devonta Graham and their 4th pick of the draft for Garland. Fill in the holes during FA and you have a pretty solid playoff contender and a lineup of: Garland, Vassel, PG, Wemby, Collins (or whoever they sign or trade for in the offseason to swap out for Collins)
Simple question for Paul George will be, if he wanna play winning basketball or just make the most money he can possibly get.. I think it’s clear is no superstar any more and shouldn’t be paid as one
There's no way the Knicks front office let O. G. Anuoby walk. He is worth the Max to New York due to his impact on Tom Thibodeau's defensive schemes. Without him the Knicks are a mediocre team. With him and some upgrades to the roster they are a legitimate threat to emerge out of the EASTERN conference and to represent them in next year's NBA Finals
Don't just think that PG will only go to a contender. He seems to think highly of the Rockets and their young talent from things he has said on his podcast. If the Clips would actually do it, I could see the Rockets maybe trading them Dillon Brooks, the #3 pick this year and maybe like a Jeff Green or some other useful role player and maybe another draft pick or two. If the Clips would want one of the young core then maybe Jalen Green instead of Brooks but Houston would have to send out more cause his salary is way less than Brooks.
I think PG might be back with the Clippers. If the Clippers sign PG to a max offer and sign Harden to a contract, they'll be a second apron team. A lot of restrictions come with being a 2nd apron team. If PG opts out and Harden walks, the Clippers have about $40 million in cap space. They can sign PG and be under the 1st apron, which means theyll be able to use their midlevel and make trades without the apron restrictions...
I like that move if its for Kyrie and PG would sign n trade for about 70% of max. At full max I am not sure even the Clips are in on PG at 35-38 years old
@@I.am_Groot Yea... that's incorrect. Kyrie and Luka is a combination that works well with their other key players, and swapping them is nothing more than a lateral move. The move ONLY makes sense if you keep all 3 together. If they trade Kyrie for PG, they are no longer a contender for next year's title... I guarantee that!
@@cnelsonlv99 Kyrie had multiple games these playoffs where he couldn't/wouldn't go get buckets. His defense is not good enough to make up for that so they would better off getting PG in a deal that sends Kyrie out and saves them from losing other guys that they need to keep. Sign N Trade for PG means around $50m has to be shed in salary
I hope this is a continuous sign that organisations are getting wise to these 2nd tier, mid-30’s, injury prone, never deliver in the playoffs, “stars”. The big3 era is dead! And we’re not overpaying for these mediocre # 2’s & 3’s who want #1 money!
He's made it very clear he doesn't want to win. He's proven in 3 conference finals he can't get you over the hump. Any team that wants to win a championship shouldn't sign or trade for him. That being said, I believe Sacramento would be the best option for him. But if he's going to leave, he's most likely going to leave for a team outside of Cali
The PGs, buttlers and klays should know by now that they're old and having injuries. They aint worth now what they think they are. Good for klay that he's already a 4x champ so the only way pg and jb can be champs is via paycuts😁
Similar to Jimmy Bulter and Harden nobody wants to give them a max contract because of injury and age PG still a great player but I think he going to realize he and guys that are in his era like Klay, Harden and Jimmy they aren’t max level players anymore. Especially since PG is going to be a part of one of the biggest failures in basketball history in going to the Clippers with Leonard
If PG was willing to re-sign with them, they would have re-signed him. It's never been reported that LA hasn't offered. A benefit to PG if he hits UFA first is the addition of a no-trade clause. He can't get that if he opts in or extends.
Yeah but I’d sooner sign pg and trade him later in the season if he wants to leave. They have no draft picks and can’t really afford to lose him for nothing
“James Harden hasn’t been the most durable nor the easiest guy to play with” -Sporting Logically So the guy who has been more durable than Kawhi and PG isn’t durable? The same guy who actually played in the playoffs and outperformed playoff P “isn’t the easiest to play with”. Are we talking about the same James Harden who elevated the efficiency of Kawhi PG and Russ to sky high levels? Interesting maybe there’s another James Harden in the NBA
PG is not a max guy because he is inconsistent, especially in the postseason. He is older and he us injury prone as well. I don't think he going anyway and staying with the Clippers because he is from the west coast
This is by far going to be one of the worst offseasons in basketball history there really ain’t many top free agents I see on the move besides Klay, PG, and Demar, this draft class is straight garbage with no standouts just good role players I don’t see many draft night trades happening, and I don’t see any major team trades happening besides the bulls continuing to gut they roster and maybe ATL trading either Murray or Young legit that’s about it basketball fans we are due for a major drought😔
