I'm so impressed with these pellets. I used them 1st on my Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Grill. I usually get more smoke flavor when I cook on that because of the technology and the compact space. I wasn't expecting the same on my Pitboss 1600. To my pleasant surprise I got so much more smoke from these pellets than ANY other pellet that I have used. I have tried them all....I spent so much money trying to find the right pellet and I finally found it. Great job Smokin Pecan Pellets!!!👍🏾

Hi Jim! We've had a few customers mention blending our pellets with wood pellets. Not a bad idea! I know pecans have a good amount of oils in them. Could it be smokier due to the natural oils in the pecan shells? If so that’s a huge benefit!
@SmokeTrailsBBQ
@SmokeTrailsBBQ 10 месяцев назад
Possibly. I looked it up after this video and, similar to mesquite, pecan shells do in fact have high levels of lignin, which produces a very smokey flavor.

@@SmokeTrailsBBQ if its pretty comparable to mesquite pellets from lumberjack. Wouldn’t it better to stick with the cheaper options? Bear Mt and LJ are 10-11$ for 20lbs. Or is there a big difference in smoke profile?

Is it TOO strong a flavor? Mesquite can be off-putting at times. It can get overpowering, especially on chicken, pork and fish. I might need to try these. $30 for a 20lb box is the same price I pay for a 40lb bag, so I can’t see these becoming my go-to at that price, but I’d try them

These pellets are also $30 for a 20-lb box. They may be smokier, but they're not exactly a good value. Lumberjack and Bear Mountain still deliver the best smoke-to-price ratio.
@jepprey4953

He mentioned in the beginning it would burn slower, so I wonder if it uses less per cook, which would determine a more accurate smoke to price ratio analysis.

unclear as “smoke” flavor is subjective … My value metric will be different than another’s 😉

I paid $200 total just to get them imported into Canada so I can't comment on price for value. This test is just about smoke flavor. I will say though that it makes sense, pecan shells are much less abundant in terms of sheer mass than hardwood and the processing is probably more complex so the manufacturing cost is going to be higher.

Steve, I love your experiments but I think this one wasn't really fair. I wish you would have showed how the control brisket was cooked. Was it smoked on the Pitts n Spitts, or another grill like your Traeger? Also, was it fair to use the fire cage in the Spitts n Pitts along with the pecan shell pellets? It would have been nice to hear the results without adding real wood chunks. Again, love your videos....this one just didn't seem like a fair comparison. Keep smoking!
