Today we are taking a close look at the Guyatone PS-033 which is said to be a RAT type distortion for bass with an added clean blend. Tracing the actual circuit and looking at the schematic proved that to be mostly true. And with a very simple mod, this pedal can become an amazingly versatile RAT option for guitarist!
While there are many differences between this and an actual RAT that will make the purists claim that they are different pedals, at the core of its tone, the Guyatone is pretty much a RAT. (IMHO)
Furthermore, with the added clean blend, and the mod that I've implemented, this pedal has proven to be an extremely versatile pedal, and has become my favorite RAT variant.
I've set up several simple loops to show the different tones available from this pedal, and play them back to back so you can get a good idea of how the tone changes. I also do some fun experimenting to try and find tones beyond the typical RAT.
