Yes, I am familiar with "Carry On Wayward Son", but I've never analyzed it before nor have I ever seen a live performance of Kansas. Thank you Patrons for bringing me this gem, and showing me that Rambo truly can sing his heart out!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she analyzes Kansas for the first time, performing "Carry On Wayward Son” live at Canada Jam.

I did the shopping cart thing once, in a Home Depot. Forgot it really should have things in it to weigh it down. The thing flipped, hit me in the head, and I ended up on the floor, trapped inside a shopping cart cage, for all to see. Never tried it again.

Robbie Steinhardt retired to the small town I live in. Before his passing he used to sit in with the local classic rock cover band and play Kansas songs. He grew up, thinking he had to choose between being a world-class violinist or a rock ‘n’ roll star, he made them both work. What a talent. Other Kansas songs have him on the violin and he’s just a genius. I got to see him sit in three times, what an honor.

What annoyed me was Tampa Bay media hardly even mentioned it when Robbie died, or that he even lived in the area for years, but there are periodically stories about Robin Zander from Cheap Trick being a local resident. Nothing against Cheap Trick, but I would equate Kansas as being at least as popular.

Elizabeth, this is KANSAS in its prime!!!! Steve shirtless playing congas with all that power in his amazing voice, Robby alternating the violin with tambourine, Rich wearing a tuxedo, Kerry with long hair….everything while keeping amazing tempo, melodies and harmonies….Unfortunately, other things were happening behind doors, and some members of Kansas were struggling with aspects of their lives during this very time….But, this is the picture of Kansas we want to keep in our head!!!!

It's called "live music" guys. Road versions are rarely exactly the same as studio versions, and artists will change things up from one night to the next, just to keep things fresh for them. Who wants to play the same songs night after night the exact same way every time? That's boring. Trust me, if they didn't want to be there... they wouldn't, period. Nobody's rushing to get through a song, just to get it over with. If you've ever performed live music you'd know that it's like a drug that you just can't live without.

But they work so well together.

The attire that Steve was sporting in this video was what all us cool cats wore in the late 70s and early 80s, consisting of Striped Tubesocks and Tight Fitting Gym Shorts, I assure you that it was the style at the time. The four of us sat around for an hour or so talking about nothing but our pets. The more we talked, the more relaxed Robby and his wife got. Afterwards, I was thinking how funny it was to talk to a member of Kansa and not talk about music at all. Good people.
