As someone who makes bearings for a living, I can tell you that bearing is not bad. ITS DEAD!😂

I've had the ball bearings completely shatter to bits on a tax I did one time. It sounded crunchy when spinning it.

A 1985 Chevy Cavalier is better built, much more reliable and cost much less for maintenance than these Chevy Equinox. Absolute garbage nowadays.

Could it be they’ve been using an oil inappropriate for DI? As I understand it, the oil needs to have a lower calcium additive package to prevent LSPI.

I'm not an oil expert. From my understanding of how the oil is suppose to help prevent low speed pre ignition is because how direct injection operates and oil dilution at low speed it doesn't allow fuel to atomize and it mixes with the oil and that oil creates a lower octane of fuel which causes pre ignition and detonation. So the oil is suppose to help with that. But I feel like that is just a fine print because what about under high load high speed. Or if you are towing. One thing direct injection is really bad for is carbon. Carbon can create a hot spot in your combustion chamber and cause pre ignition and detonation the engine computer is suppose to detect it by the knock sensor to protect your engine from basically blowing up. But I think there are other factors that contribute to pre ignition and detonation.

Oh no another post purchase inspection!😂 That bad bearing sounds like a garbage disposal!! Man could you give me some suggestions on diagnosing engine that run low on fuel economy? Recently my Theta 2 start rattling after an 0w20 oil change that cleans engine deposit, it seems to coming from intake vvt gear, but it start to disappear after I did an oil change with quaker state 5w30! But now fuel economy is much worse, I lost 80 miles a tank. Air filter, plug and pcv changed last year. Throttle body cleaned last year. Fuel addictive every 3k miles. Boroscope shows excellent condition of piston and cam lobe, scanner shows timing advance worked with fuel trim +3 to +10, no code/ no power loss/ no rough idle. What should I go next? Pull calve cover to check chains and gear? Thanks

You had a Sonata Hybrid I think?

@@theoffroadingmechanic Yes. It's a good lesson for me that don't fix something not broken and don't pay to be a lab rat🥲 When it first start rattling I tried to disable one injector at a time to figure out if it is a rod knock/piston slap on particular cylinder. I went through all 4 and rattle remain the same.

Viscosity shouldn't make much of an impact on fuel economy. Have you tried looking into the hybrid system. How many miles or kms do you have?
@frankxu2321
@frankxu2321 2 месяца назад
@@theoffroadingmechanic I'm sitting at 147000 miles / 236670 kms. Battery input output looks ok with both able to reach 20kw+. But here we are hot with top temperature reaching 85, 86 everyday. Not sure if AC will cause such a big fuel economy impact.

Can't remember if the early Sonata Hybrids you can check the hybrid battery state of health with the scan tool. I know the Hyundai EV you can and actually has a calculation in the computer for degradation like the battery should have or expected degradation after 30k kms and so on. If your losing that many miles per tank with the amount of miles you have. The engine my not be the source of your fuel economy issue

Maybe it's just a Chevy thing I looked and even if you flip them over to the other side that brake line is supposed to sit in that notch on the caliper.
