When your cousin said my great great great grandfather planted this tree.. now am here, am following their foot step. Long before I will be gone my sons and sons will do the same.. That's deep.. ( yokwe brother)RMI
Bro greetings ! I'm from PNG ,learnt something about your Fijian culture mostly how and why kava is made . We have the plant in the coastal areas of PNG but we don't make kava . After stumbling into this video I'm pretty sure I'm trying this anytime soon . South out to the village Boys who helped in the process . Really enjoyed the view from the village setting, the humor from the boys , even tho I couldn't understand in detail mixing native language and English however tuning in from manila with all iv seen from this video it makes me home sick . It really resembles our livelihood back in the ilsands of PNG . I wish to visit your village one day and drink kava with you guys. Thanx u got a sub from me . Melanisan pride ❤💯. Cheers bro! keep em coming . Bula vinaka 🇵🇬 🇫🇯.
Thank you bro. You are welcome to visit my Island and village home and taste the Best kava in Fiji 😊😂 i thought that PNG also drank kava but i learned something New today. Yes you should try it. Its Really good for sleeping. 😊 Thanks for the sub and for watching my melanesian bro 😊
Some Papua new guineans do drink kava but the production here locally is very rare to find . The plant itself is here also mostly in the coastal areas .
Josese is the Best Commentator in this video. Like his English mixed with Language and the way he Laughs.. Thanks for sharing your customary way of living. Hoping to see your next documentry 🙏🙏👌👍 Cheers 🍻
😂 "pound the yaqona and pound you too!" there are many things I miss about home, one of them is 100% the humor amongst the boys. Fullspeed,no brakes! Lol
Thanks for showing the complete process, very interesting indeed. 😊 remember very well a ceremony I was invited to, had loads of kava before, and always slept good,… but on this day, the yaqona must have been very strong. I slept like a baby for hours afterwards … 😁😇☺️and thanks for reminding me of the lovely ding-sound in the evening.
I used to hear that sound from the tabili when I was in Suva especially late in the afternoons and would wonder what made the sound. Now I get to see what made the sound and the whole process of harvesting yagona to pounding it. Learnt so much and especially the shared pounding process....thanks for sharing your culture, keep uploading your videos 👍👍👍
Hi bro watching here from Vanuatu, enjoyed your videos . In here we drink kava as well but not dried, we drink it fresh from the farm. Keep them coming and Josese is the man who made everyone skinned their teeth because of his humor. Proud of our Melanesian culture.
Fijian and Samoan kava ceremony is bit similar,in Samoa you don't see that many people drinking kava for daily drink, you can see them in the market area or some guys drinks it when is gathering of friends mainly men but it's all about special ceremony( eg)when visitors arriving, bestowing of matai,etc..our Samoan culture ceremony, kava preparation we have a special lady which we called a taupou and always a chiefs daughter to do the mixing and we have men's on each side of her we called it agaia le ava on one side of her,on her other side is a group of mens are there to watch on ,😢 there is a folafola ava and also a tufa ava ,Samoan one is a bit serious when it's comes to a ava ceremony,Fijian and Samoan way of culture such as kava or ava ceremony is so unique in many ways and it's a must for generations to practice and follow and showcase to show who we are to so many people around the world, pleasure to watch your video the other thing is so admiring about your village is they all seems like they working together, laugh, sharing, singing etc etc is so amazing to watch.
Love the vids bro.....this dude is a funny guy from all your vids 🤣🤣. greetings from 🇵🇬....so much similarity in our cultures ...much love n respect Melanesian brother 🇵🇬🇫🇯❤️
Bula Uraia, Bula Josese. Your cousin is skilled at prepping the kava but it is so labour intensive getting the plant from farm to kava bowl LOL. my legs would have cramped crouching down for hours cleaning the kava roots. The ritual of pounding was great. I really enjoyed watching the guys pounding the kava roots with that metal behemoth. There are so many village rituals and customs which Fiji has managed to hold onto. Must be v enriching experience for you.
Bula Karen, yes Josese is very skilled and yes there is alot of work put into to prepping the kava before you Can sit Down and enjoy it. The Fijian/Itaukei culture is Rich with many rituals and customs that you Can see and experience to this day. Yes it does surprise me at times and also beautiful to experience and watch first hand. Even though Fiji is small there are so many unique dialects, rituals and customs around Fiji and i hope as the Channel grows i Can showcase it more. 😊
I came across your RU-vid charnel enjoyed watching the final process of harvesting, washing, cutting, drying, pounding, mixing of Yaqona thanks for sharing Isa na viwali God bless you
Vinaka Ura….totoka, love watching your channel. Really down to earth and showcases Fiji in its purest form. Kalougata tiko kemudou na turaga mataqali. Levu na boys tuki tabili tiko, dua mada nomudou episode ni qito 7’s

thanks for sharing mate! those of us that love to know and understand different cultures cant get enough of these sort of videos , ps i would have liked to see all the boys during your B party + the food drinks etc also ,but i guess you wanted to enjoy your self instead of taking a video , keep it in mind next time if it does not offend people , i am already looking forward to the next video , stay well 👊
Bula Lenny, we moved the celebration till an unknown date because the Day of my birthday the weather was Really Really bad. So When we celebrate it i will make sure to vlog it 😊 Thanks for watching 😊
Yessahhh my brothers from far Fiji you guys are awesome I would be an honor to hang an live the life of the Fijian bradddahs Yesssah suki time all the way out in hawaii Oahu Hauula side BULA BULA 🤘🏽🤘🏽💯❤️
I drank some Fijian kava at a Fijian haircutting ceremony for the first time in my life and after my first taste my lips went numb 😁 and that's when I knew I was drinking the real McCoy Yaqona 😂👍
@@uraiatabua Reminds me of a guy in a village somewhere Naitasiri back when I was still a student in Suva. We went for a school project and while drinking grog one night, he wasn't able to walk back home. The next day everyone was laughing at him and saying all sorts of jokes in Fijian and the Turaga ni Koro said this in English, "you're such a disgrace to the community!" Hahahahaha
Bula bro, maybe ill set something up in the future where People Can donate. But we are looking for the Gumboot because my uncle wants a specific brand that you cant get in levuka. Im going to suva soon. Hopefully i Can find it in the Big city😂😁
Now I realize why yaqona sounds familiar... it's from that song....yaqona, yaqona, yaqona... 😅 i just sing along to it not realizing what the lyrics mean
The problem with this vlog is that it's so captivating that you just can't do anything else.😄 Did you say you are from Brisbane? Loved the friendship and beautiful lifestyle. I miss Fiji.

Your mix is considered in Vanuatu has too much water based which best for young girls & womans because of it's taste. The plant you boys dig up is too young we don't use to drink such young plants because not so effective. Anyways try Vanuatu Kava you will shake & twerk by yourself after 3 shells.
The first mix is always like that then the mix becomes stronger and stronger the longer the grog session goes 😊 This plant is just around 3 years, so its Mature enough to harvest. Well if you wanna shake and twerk after three shells then it can’t be that strong because our kava will make your body so dope that you can’t move 😂😂 cheers mate. I want to try Vanuatu kava one Day. Im sure it strong too 😊
