I think Bandai is simply taking advantage of the monsterverse in a different way, for example maybe they don't put max effort in monsterverse figures but go above for older toho figures, because they want to promote toho more. "Yeah monsterverse is cool, but look at Godzilla v Gigan!!" Maybe its just me.

Plus you have all these new godzilla fans because of the monsterverse which also turned 10 years old, so it makes sense to rerelease old figures like Space Godzilla and Biollante.

There isn't gatekeeping. I explicitly stated to buy whatever you wanted because in the end it really doesn't matter, but if you did want to spend your money to join in on the fandom I encouraged you to divert your time and energy elsewhere. Not actually listening to what was said doesn't help the points and understanding them; I addressed points which people brought up as arguments why they would buy these, and counterpoints to something else. So they want my input... On what to do.... It's like taking an issue to do exactly what I do. Review stuff.

I have left many FB collecting groups of ALL kinds, simply because there was too much “grown” men having these disturbing “man-tantrums” over a toy and honestly, I think that’s something that needs to be looked at and addressed. That’s not normal in my opinion. I just see far too often. It just takes any joy out of it and this type of behavior does not discriminate.

I had about 12 minutes of additional footage that I ended up leaving out, but part of it was talking about how these are the forms we see the characters in for the majority of the movie. There is concept art out now showing these versions fighting in Egypt, and they were the first versions we saw Playmates show off at Toy Fair last year. Pair that with the appetite in Japan for these molds and it would almost seem silly of Bandai to NOT issue these.

It’s more the fact that people were never happy with this sculpt in the first place. Even by 2019, it was kind of mediocre and not all that movie-accurate. People have been requesting improvements to the sculpt for almost 5 years and all they got were repaints. When Hiya is not only able to deliver a much better sculpt for a considerably cheaper price, but they actually listened to feedback and were quick to make noticeable improvements in their updated figures, it makes SHMA look lazy by comparison.

I don't think there was a single Neca, Diamond Select or Hiya figure I didn't have to heat to get the ACTUAL articulation. Hell, I didn't even know Neca Godzilla's had more range of movement back when I got into collection in 2020 until I watched videos about heating them up. I sympathize with that Hiya Ghidorah tail, that was fucking ridiculous. It took me 90 mins using hot water, hairdryer and when those didn't work fucking boiling water to attach them. Cut the shit out of my palm, I and to reshape the socket on both of the tails, even then I put them on the wrong side. I said my peace and for some reason preordered the Gravity Beam one on Amazon cause I'm a masochist. Fucking hilarious!

Man, these horror stories about the Hiya Ghidorah tails make me feel blessed because mine popped in without too much of a struggle. Sorry that happened to you.

NCV specifically I think is a bad example because exclusives should be recolours. If they were unique molds, a lot of people would be upset at not being able to get them. But, I take the point around a low-effort repaint with weight, but as I said in the video there have been and still are demands for these molds in their primary markets and it would be almost silly for Bandai to not release these.

@@kaijucanuck4492 yes they should be recolors but with a high degree of specificity and detail. By making is a very bland and at times sloppy paint application it does feel like a CASH GRAB. I mean let's look at the difference with the poster version color of 2019 versus the NYC exclusive. You can see the lengths they went to make the EXCLUSIVE feel like a very quality and unique figure well worth the price. The argument still holds. Also again, WHY didn't monsterarts make a MOVIE accurate depiction when it comes to paint application the first go around and instead we got toothpaste? The movie was basically held up for a year due to covid and they could have gotten the paint down or like Hiya recall their figures. By doing this it kind of spits on our face.

I don't know man, I'm with you on not liking the toothpaste look, but the Japanese market bought them up immediately. It's just a different world over there. The NCV is lost on me, perhaps they thought it had been a while since a "normal" looking version of the mold was out. TAS would have more to say on it, I'm just spittballing.

@@kaijucanuck4492 like I see both arguments, there are people who didn't get the GvK version and don't want the price hike on eBay but for something like this which you agree is just a repaint which should be more exclusive based because it's the SAME mold as you mentioned above, then Bandai should have made a limited run or like Super7 take preorders to a certain date and close it, let whoever wants the repaint get it all the while ALL the other fans could have enjoyed something different from this film that's NOT a repaint or at least very different from previous releases for example the supercharged Godzilla from GxK when he's all electric blue and has all the cracks for blue in his scales would have been a nice addition seeing as how WE have never gotten something like that. Different paint job but drastic enough like 2019 burning Godzilla to where it would make sense for the Majority of fans to go out and buy it. I'm not sure if my examples are getting the point across correctly?

You (not you specifically, i mean in general) should not be recommending people buy a figure that is 25% more expensive than it's last version, that has been re-issued multiple times, with glaring problems. If someone asked me where to start on MV collecting, Hiya is the no brain answer. You're paying significantly less for better with Hiya, and we've seen hiya going in and adjusting sculpt/articulation and re-releasing for no additional cost. SHMA has absolutely dropped the ball on the Monsterverse. These *should* be avoided unless you feel like you *have* to have them

The racial aspect is only because Japan is the primary market, they buy these things up like crazy. I've seen folks (not you) talk about how they don't realize they're being hosed, despite the fact that the Japanese market just really likes these things and don't feel like they're being cheated generally speaking. I'm with you on Monsterverse releases with HIYA, and I'm very curious what will come of their classics line!

@@kaijucanuck4492 Well I do actually think the Japanese might be getting screwed over, but not because of a cultural thing or something like that. I've noticed a lot of SHMA 'alternative' figures are exempt from shipping to Japan, presumably some part of the license agreement, and that they end up being much more expensive to get over there. From that perspective, I can understand the drive for SHMA, it's easier to get and the price disparity doesn't exist. But if you're in the situation to choose, which I think Steven is assuming (and that's fair to say isn't true for everyone obviously), I think a lot more of his argument makes sense

My issues with the video have nothing to do with reviewing the physical figures, and I've already said in the video that Steven's breakdowns of the actual figures are great. Can you be more specific?

This will be the last thing I follow-up on, which is not a response the video exactly but to this point in general: I have a bachelor of science, dual focus, one being communication. That was split between clinical applications and marketing/media, and I studied under someone who worked with exceptionally large print publications in both the US and Canada, as well as published Ph.Ds. who have worked with media and ethics. To say I need to be held to a higher standard I don't know what it is. Show me the literal law and I will do so. Objectively, aside from obtaining a doctorate in philosophy in that area, ethically and legally, I believe I can do no further.

B. At 2:38 you state that what matters is fun, so in that case a response to steven is null because your pathos appeal is none hinged on fun which is wholly subjective but even then, still countered by stevens point at 20:00 where he makes it clear that reissues of the mold that he's shown are not that much different were cheaper. - my only commentary on that would be that people are going to pick up these figures because they say GXK instead of GVK or Kotm on the box. 9:10 you talk about how the hobby has always been about collecting the same monster with variations and provide the hedorah picture. but 1. The hedorah figures are far more diverse in size and color compared to the monsterart Godzillas which we can establish, and show do not have as much variation and steven does so in the review. 12:11 you mention how once the first sale goes people who want one to have one and other people don't care but later on at around 15:48 you mention how there were people who couldn't get those figures beforehand for reasons so that's a contradiction being that just because the initial stock was gone that it meant people who missed out were not interested. deviling totally into anecdote. I wanted the first minus one release but was content on waiting because of finances and knew reissues would probably come (and was before the super 7 reveal) Someone ended up getting one for me as a birthday gift, but it was stolen by someone. By your own words at 12:11 i don't really care about the release when its far more complicated than that. However, you could argue that you're saying this from the point that, its once demand is met. Excluding the fact that if people are still buying the mold, then there is still demand only that the size of said demand is greater or smaller and again why stevens point at 20:00 still holds and although you bring up the Canadian conversion, that doesn't account for other countries like Japan and just Canada. 13:13 your commentary on this essentially breaks your response about demand because if costumers keep buying a product, then there is demand, and if there are ways that it can be shown that the product is not improving or even going down in quality then the customers consumer choice to meet a "demand" is what's causing this. It fundamentally goes against your statement about like what you like. And although steven has a similar sentiment, he is judging an objective reality and commenting on how subjective choices will cause certain outcomes to arise. 14:33 this what I'm referring to as passive aggressive and how ultimately if it's just as "what you think" then you are saying there is no need to review figures because its "just what you think" it declaws your entire response to steven and reviewing and critique as a whole for what is ostensibly harm avoidance. 17:11 commentary on someone's hyperbolic response for comedy and assert that steven would give them a fair shake because of that is simply begging the question. Besides twitter not facilitating Indepth analysis the best and steven has a channel for review why would he essentially do what hes doing on his channel on twitter. 17:24 admittedly he is cherry picking. However, you then go on to do the same thing, cherry picking one time he doesn't have the best logic or argument extrapolate it to his reviews as a whole instead of the specific review and provide examples of him doing so there. again, comes off as passive aggressive and a gotcha. 18:39 if there is a similar product that you are reviewing, and a lot of people are more familiar with SH than Hiya using that comparison is not bad reasoning especially if you're trying to tell the consumer they should get a more superior product. And considering the sh figures are totally accurate with their incarnations as steven did in his review then using the incarnation point is weaker than it really is. 19:14 essentially you attack his credibility but uses things like life circumstances as a response. Again, why critique and review if everything is so different than don't review or critique but products simple as. Because by this metric than any "bad" product will be "good" in people's eyes, it reduces these conversations ultimately to useless circle jerks with no substance besides a safe "i like this" as the acceptable discourse which i said in my first response. 21:05 he says virtually synonymous ie the sentiment is the same regardless of the verbiage. that's really a gotcha. 21:29 bringing up the hiya stuff, it comes across as steven being irresponsible which again appears to be passive aggressive. 22:08 With your whole point about negativity, you at the start of the video 0:06 you state how you don't like conflict, so if you have such a dislike for conflict and you're highly engage in the community then in honesty you're not a good metric for levels of negativity. If you have a low tolerance for it than what is low or middling for others is probably seen as much higher for you. 23:07 you talk about subjective and objective, you are doing that right here and with the other jabs you make it comes across as you are far more emotionally invested in the sentiment steven makes instead of objectively what he said.

My point around needing 5 years to pick up a figure was to provide an example, which is later elaborated upon, that not everyone gets in on a figure/mold just because of availability - it's also about life circumstance. 2. The Hedorahs are the same size, as they are the same mold, and might be an extreme case in terms of colour (I can concede this) but it's far from the only example of how Godzilla merchandise has literally always consisted of slight recolours of molds that sell. 3. I'm talking about two different geographies at this point in the video. In Japan the figures sold out immediately but there was still demand, while in the USA there was overstock because everyone who wanted one had one. I think your following timestamp also has this misconstrued. 4. This isn't passive aggressive, I am actively saying that we need to stop imposing our wants/beliefs onto the target market. 5. Steven's tweet was not comedy and was followed up by an explanation of "I want to see Bandai succeed" and other suggestions that the line was going downhill. 6. I am merely asking the question of how I can trust examples used if the user admits to cherry-picking. 7. I disagree re: the Kong comment. 8. Again, Steven's actual assessment of the physical figures is fine, but when you start talking about why people should or should not already have these, you're never going to be able to capture the nuances of collectors' lives. 9. Not sure what you mean at the 21:05 mark - he was misrepresenting what I was saying even after I told him that's not what I said. 10. I also said Steven is fine to do whatever he wants and was pointing out an incompatibility in our stances on company relationships being one of the reasons we can't seem to communicate with one another. 11. Not sure what a distaste for conflict has to do with being unable to spot conflict and/or negativity. 12. I covered what Steven said objectively said and how it doesn't adequately capture the nature of the hobby. When he says that these figures have been available in abundance, that is not true for me and for Bandai's target market. That is not subjective, it is measurable fact. Look, I appreciate the points you're raising but it almost seems like you and I are having completely different conversations and interpretations of what I said in the video, and I do not have the capacity to go back-and-forth on all of these points under such circumstances.

Even if i grant you that, in the case of the exception, there is enough context to imply that the response is referring to people who 1. want the figure and 2 have the direct means to buy it then and his other points also would account for most exception, and ultimately if we are going use things like, like what you like, then steven vary clearly states that objectively he cannot stop you so ultimately if you don't care what he has to say then its a moot point 2.
