Imo its more than just frustrating, its downright shit. The whole reason someone would buy a prebuilt is so they dont have to worry about specifics like this, they want someone else to make sure the hardware is working as it should. The complete lack of care most prebuilt pc and laptop manufacturers have for their end product is straight up disgusting. "just throw some leds lights and a garish case over it, the morons will still buy it" Long term, stupid half thought out decisions like this are going to wreck them, but they dont care because of the short term gains they get by ripping people off. And yes. I do consider kneecapping the performance of a pc by half assed thermals and shitty rams config, ripping your customers off. They paid for that hardware, you have a duty to let it perform the best it can.

People really underestimate how much performance they're leaving on the table with a single stick. My buddy had a Ryzem 2600 build that he had kneecapped with a single 8GB stick of 2400MT/s. @@goa141no6 But sadly a memory tuned 3700 doesn't quite reach a 5700 :D Still, memory bandwith i often overlooked. People look at that fast i7 and the "4GB nvidia graphics with DirectX 12" (which turns out a 1030 or something like that in the end) and ignore the fact that fast RAM in dual (or more) channel is just much faster. I noticed that stuff even on a Pentium 4 build with DDR2 and a Pentium 3 build with SDRAM I have here. Sure, upgrading the CPU and GPU will give more performance, but maybe you already have the fastest CPU for the board and hit the limit it can run at and your pgraphics card is the best you can afford, a rather inexpensive memory upgrade can go a long way.

"It smells like PC death" 😄 The common theme in your pre-builds is that the manufacture says let's design a PC and then cripple it by either having single channel memory or poorly cooled so that it thermal throttles. It makes sense it failed but not in that way as you stated. It was actually expected since the supply is dual rail with a 24A cap on each rail. That means the 3080ti was feeding off a shared 288W total... which wasn't much at all considering other components.

You'd need to take DMM and ring every element for continuity to know what died here. That could take some time obviously, especially since desoldering would likely be necessary. Also note that when fuse blows, just replacing it is not generally good enough. It blew for a reason, and when you replace it, it might blow again if you don't find and address the fault. When i bought a budget pc for a few years back. That pc came with a 450 W power supply. It came with 1060 (2gb) card and only 8 gig of ram. I decide to do a medium budget upgrade to it. First i bought the same card as you used in this video. But i didnt use it after checking the box for minimum reqirements. The card needs a power supply on minimun 500W. Then i decide to go for KA 1660 ti (6gb) graphic card instead. That card "only" needed 400 W. Then i didnt need to change the power sypply. Then i put in one more 8 gb ram to it. So the specs are: Asus Rog. Clock speed 3ghz, 16 gb ram, 250 gb sdd, KA GTX 1660 Ti graphic card with 6 gb memory. My goal was to get it upgrade so i could play Goat Simulator 3 on it, and yes. It runs it wery well on full settings. A little bit old pc, but it still does the job. It accept 4K settings as well. Nice video David. 🙂

Last year i bought a LENOVO IdeaCentre G5, because i was looking for a desktop/laptop to game on (GPU in old laptop died) and was actually waiting for a specific gaming laptop to be released, when i could buy this desktop for 45% of the price (was an error on a website but it got delivered). So i paid 432 euro for a OEM build (which is not great), but for so little money i had (in a time of crsis: high tech prices due tot shortages) an Intel i5 11400F, MSI 1660 Super, 512GB NVME SSD and 1x16GB RAM. After about a month i purchased a second (same serialnumber) 16GB stick and i had up to 80% more fps in games. The RAM change shows that Intel also benefits from fast dual channel memory. In fact, it goes back at least 20 years that faster memory gives you better performance, but in most cases the GPU comes first and the CPU second before the RAM in terms of what you actually gain.

The assumption that the PSU is dead can only be ascertained if the PSU is tried with a test connector. If if fans up then the motherboard PCI pre-caps wen't and the voltage rail for that slot won't pre-charge which will cause the whole PC to not power. There is no longer any circuit as a cap vented or crystalized.

The power supply may actually be almost fine, with only a blown fuse preventing it from powering up the PC. Even if that is true, however, the fuse is most likely soldered in, which means replacing it is really a job for an electronics repair technician or at least a reasonable facsimile of one. On the other hand as others have mentioned, that looks like a "Flex ATX" power supply and those are available in slightly higher power output models. But that raises the question of whether the system uses normal ATX power connectors for the motherboard connections or has MSI "done a Dell" and spec'd a PSU and motherboard with non-standard power connectors.

Besides it running in single channel, that single stick of RAM also had a single rank. Big difference when you have dual rank RAM vs. single rank. Imagine how much single channel, single rank would do to kneecap performance.

'ey, Dawid. Look right at 15:09, pause the vid right there. See the little tube of black heatshrink next to the big yellow block? That usually has a little gray peanut-shaped thing in it, a resistor. (The gray body means that it's of flame-resistant construction, which, given what it does, is a very good idea.) This will be a low-value resistor, usually 10 ohms or less, but a couple of watts. It's a big fella ;) Something like a 5ohm 3w job is not uncommon. This is used as an inrush limiter (to keep that ginormous can capacitor nearby, the one they had to cut the heatsinks around, from sucking up too much juice at power-on -- it's the intake filter capacitor) as well as a dirt-cheap fuse. The industry term is "fusible link" or "fusible resistor". Replace with one of identical rating AND GRAY BODY and your power supply should spring back up like a monster in Frankenstein's lab ;) but with a lot less work. Companies like Mouser and Digikey sell to the big boys, but they also sell to little hobbyists... they'll have your part, and even a Radio Shack (remember them?) style "carpet burner" 30w iron will, regrettably, do you to get the old one out and the new one in. It's not a challenging repair... TBH, for a beginner in electronics, it doesn't get much simpler than this.
