The dragon is supposed to digest food slowly while it hibernates. They took around a week to get there and they were hoping to kill the sleeping dragon and retrieve her body relatively intact. However, turns out the dragon wasn’t hibernating at all and digested her much quicker. Fallin’s body is in a much, much, muuuch worse condition than they were hoping for. There was some dialogue between Namari and the twins that was cut from last episode that goes into greater detail about resurrection magic, but basically those spells don’t always work. The more mangled and damaged the body is, the more resurrection chances go down.

Not only that, but the Red Dragon attacked the Orc village and used his fire breath (using Falin's already digested corpse as fuel) a whole lot, which damaged the remains even more

I have read all the manga and the anime version got mi gasping, the framing is sooooo much better than in the manga, It amplifies the horror Laios was feeling and the skull painted red is amazing!

Yeah and it's not "edgy" dark, with overly detailed death or r*pe scenes like you'd see isekai fans gushing about. It's the concept that is so dark and interesting

It really sucks that they cut the resurrection convo between Namari and the twins last episode - would’ve made it clearer about what the limits of resurrection magic are with a badly damaged body and what a bad situation they’re in…the ending could’ve felt (even) grimmer

It was less than two weeks (based on Namine’s statement two episodes ago). They speed-ran getting back to the area, and the dragon ‘happened’ to meet them a floor higher than before. 60km/h ~ 37mph. So, they cannot even possibly outrun its max. How they measured its speed, though, is… goes unstated. What Namine said adamantine could block, was piercing attacks/dragon teeth (and ‘break’ dragon bones). Neither was stated to invite them to try doing those with the pot (but might’ve come in handy to remember). Never. This whole venture was for the runback because someone fired the rest _out_ of the dungeon, Laios doesn’t have it in him to abandon comrades. The limit to healing is… well, it’s _probably_ to be explored. Nah, that vision was with a Falin older than when she was in magic school. I _think_ that was just his (bleeding out) brain trying to let him say ‘goodbye’ to her in case he also died (completely disregarding the understanding of how death works in the dungeon). The worry about digestion was whether or not she’d _fully_ be digested. Laios asked early on if either Chilchuk or Marcille had ever heard of someone being revived from coming out the other end (which, they had not, so it’s up in the air). Then a time limit of maybe a month was set with hearing that red dragons rest often (which, it still being awake canceled out). Revival from parts might be _possible_ , but it’s up in the air how much can be worked from… which remains to be seen. There’s another 13 coming, and plenty of ground to cover. Final scene? Get ready for a touch of the abyss.

If Falin was as intact as a zombie, that would've been enough to definitely be ok. They didn't expect the dragon to reduce her to bones so quickly, considering how dragons usually hibernate for a month after each meal, and it's only been a little more then a week so far.

Sadly they cut out a part of Namari and the Tance twins (Kaka and Kiki) that explains what they need to make sure the resurection is a success. To sum it up without spoiling too much, you need as much of the body as you can find, so the smallest the percentage the trickier it is.

A lot of viewers are doubtless surprised by the dark turn of this episode, but we must realize, however, that this isn't so much a cooking anime, but rather a more hunting and gathering type anime. The cooking part is quite quick and small, while the hunting and enjoying the food is given much more time and importance. With that in mind, I think it makes more sense that the real theme of this story, which will quickly become more and more prominent after this episode, is actually life and death, and how food or eating factor into it. It probably sounds a little hmm, what's the word, snobby? Cliche? Like, I heard the story is about the grand theme of life and death and I just think it must be written by someone obnoxious, but Ryoko Kui's story is so down-to-earth, even at time crudely so. It has no disdain for how people live, and doesn't pretend that its heroes doesn't need to eat, shit, live and make money (Poor Namari, my unproblematic Dwarf girl is just trying to live I swear). Good to see you enjoying this anime as well, your energy is wonderful!

Technically the true message is different, not so much life and death, it has a lot of it and the importance of life and using the time you were giving in a way you are happy with, but if I have to say the true message of the history is *SPOILERS, BIG ONES, STOP IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE MANGA * Is about desires, how to live is to desire, eating, killing, loving all are desires some of the soul some of the flesh, no matter how much you try to separate from desires you can't, the only way is to die, every cast member has a pretty strong desire (Chilchuk not as big as the others but still an understandable one), I'll say Marcille's TRUE desire is the most sad and selfless and even so it almost causes the end of the world

Last time I read/watched cooking series it was about war vet and Ainu girl chasing tattooed convicts to get the secret Ainu gold stash, so yeah, cooking show is kinda bleak and unhinged nowadays, lol. This show going to be bleaker and unhinged from now on.

I'd say the story is generally about how people relate to food. It's also about other things of course but technically speaking Falin was the dragon's food and Laios explained how the dragon's eating habits and digestion worked. See? It kinda fits together. I grant you that it's not pleasant to consider, since the dragon devoured and digested a human being, but the manga is a seinen manga so...

Dungeon Meshi isn't really a cooking manga, thats just the cover to trap first readers, its actually a deep exploration of environmental, phylosophical and meaning of life themes If you read the author's side notes, youll se she had this planned from the start and made plenty of research before even drawing the first chapter

laios dreamed about falin leaving him, it's not about her going to magic school but it's like a metaphor that they will never meet again aka falin is beyond saving. im hoping there will be more explanation about resurrection magic in the next episode. if not...oh well, i will explain it (or maybe other people who know can do it too)

Laios...Marcille....Chilchuck...Senshi... long ago, the 4 party members lived in relative peace, but everything changed when the Red Dragon was attacked. Only Kensuke, master of all Animated Armors could restore peace. But when the party needed him most, he vanished...

They cut a part of the manga where it is stated that a person can be revived no matter how bad the body ends, but the resurrection chances are lower depending on how bad the body state is so they'll need something to replace the missing body parts
