Thank you for your vulnerability, sharing the story of your MRI. I completely understand, having gone through multiple tests and surgeries post divorce for breast cancer which was diagnosed while married. I was emotionally alone even while married. Days ago I told a man who I've known for 6yrs, and recently sexted with, that the only way I could move to something physical, was if there was commitment. I explained I could not sustain a purely sexual relationship. I haven't heard from him since. I'm okay with this! More than okay! I let the wrong one go, and gave space for the right one.

So sorry for your traumatic experience in the MRI machine, Jonathon 😞 I’ve always closed my eyes before I go into the MRI machine. I think it has really helped in my not getting panicked. I then breathe slowly and fairly deeply, and let my mind occupy me, thinking pleasant thoughts, and it’s over before I know it. I see it as an opportunity for a meditation of sorts. Wish I could’ve given you a hug after that terrible event.

Jonathan, can I give you a great big giant Lori bear hug? I could so relate to what happened to you today and I really feel for you! Last summer I had two emergencies just six months after my marriage ended and I moved to a a new town. First one was emergency dental surgery which was traumatic, then a kidney stone that landed me in the ER for 8 hours. They were both PAINFUL and traumatizing. I felt so alone even though I have family here and my brother drove me home, I didn't have my husband to tend to me and love me and hold me. I totally understand how important it is to have someone there that can support you, hold you and tell you everything will be okay.... ps you said you posted on facebook but I can't find your facebook!

No sex ANYTHING for me outside of a formal engagement. You can discuss preferences THEN, during the engagement process. A sex act should not determine a commitment. No one will ever get EVERYTHING they want. The fundamentals are much more important. Those, I would discuss right away. TIME. I've slowed my roll majorly. I need to feel safe with someone I can really talk to. If he's not protective & inspiring, I'll soon be gone. TIME. I want to know what happens when things go wrong. Does he run away? Is he mean & hides it well until later? Does he go off the rails because he's all about himself & has the emotional maturity of a 15 year old? Sex is important in a relationship, but there's a lot that has to match up FIRST.

Perfect example - her story. So here’s my Question: How does discussing what you both are looking for prior to physical intimacy (if a man doesn’t have clarity until he ejaculates) provide any clarity from him? Nobody wants to have sex knowing they will immediately be rejected afterward.

Gwynne, my advice to you would be don't second-guess the decisions you made. You felt the way you felt. You said what you needed to say. I guess my question would be why didn't he tell you that he didn't feel romantic toward you before he had sex with you? He certainly made romantic overtures by inviting you to hot tub. I wonder how he defines romance ? I think what's important is that we learn and grow from each experience. You are very blessed to have had such a long marriage and you seem like a lovely lady.

This was great. As an older person who is not sure where to go in terms of relationships at this stage of life, the list of questions you posed is food for thought. Made me wonder if I even want to “buy in” (ie.; commit) at this point. I can commit to any number of friends for life - if we are friends I will be there forever. But I’m not sure if I want to be committed to a partner (or if I’m brave enough to be, or if I am able to commit) for the entire last years of my life. I know that those fears come from past experience. “What if it hurts?” Alternatively, I’m here and have been thinking about all this so maybe I do want to commit to someone….but how do I know if they will remain committed to me? It’s so confusing. It’s funny that people make such a big deal about sex, but we can enjoy sex with anyone. However, being mentally intimate in a *committed partner* way is a much scarier proposition. It’s scary just thinking about this. Thank you for this video AND the list.
