It’s crazy how good the bee shield is even post patch. Things like the pimpernel and ladyfist can be used WAY under level with an on level Bee just because that’s where most of the damage is coming from XD
...and the sandhawk, and the lyuda, and the pitchfork, and a harold... Y'know what, basically anything that spawns unlisted projectiles absolutely fucks face with an on-level Bee. (Also, it's still not even that bad with shotguns.)
I remember buying the strategy guide with BL2 on release. I was flipping through the shields section and read about the Bee’s effect. My reaction was, “Wait. What?!?”
For some reason the Orc Warlord that spawns in the forest right before getting the bloodfruit from the treeants has dropped me a bee EVERY SINGLE TIME.
The bee and sham pretty much defines the meta even now but I won't lie the transformer healing off electric damage is also pretty nice. Wish they'd add more hybrid shields like that.
There is no meta for Bl2. Theres tons of good things. But a "Meta" implies that if you don't play this way, you're at a massive disadvantage. There are quite a handful of strategies used at Op10
@@Deliluck you can have multiple metas like what would you use on a bloodsplosion krieg probably the ogre, UKH or explosive norfleet sure you can use something else but these are much better generally.
No, they don't. It depends on the character. Also, the Antagonist is objectively a better defensive shield than the Sham and you should never use the Bee for regular mobbing. You're just making the game harder for no reason.
Man the old bee/conference call was fucking insane. I remember I kept mine from normal to tvhm and that combo, even while severely underleveled, dominated nearly everything
I have a buddy who actually quit playing the moment they nerfed the Bee (this was on XBox). He could't kill Terra anymore, got mad, rage quit, only to restart the game about 7 years later (on PC). BL2 at launch was the greatest thing ever, it blew my mind... And here we are 10 years later and I still play the game regurarly. Mostly modpacks though, after 1000's of hours of playing vanilla. Great vid as usual.
I think the funny thing is that a good amount of the best weapons are located near the starting point. The Bee is just a quick ride and elevator ride away from Hellquist, Doc Mercy only takes a geyser launch to his lair, and farming tubbies in Dahl Abandon is a straight line (along with killing a couple soldiers)... And the nearest fast travel is after the door to the Mt. Scarab research center.
but then you also have stuff like the hydra, interfacer, longbow, lyuda, tattler, CC, bone shredder, etc where you need to traverse a substantial portion of the map to get to the enemy that drops it
Not sure if you’re just gonna focus on the items in game for the retrospective series but if not you should do a video on Yoteslaya. That man singlehandedly got me addicted to this game
This series is honestly great Termx, it shows such a detailed and dedicated side of the game that most players simply cant have without thousands of hours into understanding the game and its history, and the format so far feels both like a nostalgia story and a developers perspective. Great fucking content you managed to find with this series. Also, The Bee shield quite literally make me quit the game out of guilt... until it got nerfed. I still felt dirty using it on absolutely every single mob in the game for a solid week; Then realizing there was even more broken stuff left to find, truly one of the biggest joys in BL2.
Hard disagree that the Bee doesn't have trade offs. It has awful capacity and recharge delay. Most of the people who complain about UVHM and OP levels being too hard only use the Bee and then wonder why they get insta downed. They also only use the Sandhawk and Harold and say there's no weapon variety at BL2's endgame. The Bee honestly hurt the game's community and the discourse around it. I wish it never existed.
The crazy thing about the bee sheild is that it had an experimental effect “No shield drain So infinite amp damage” but it lacked the basic balancing of giving it lower then average amp damage. Just all upsides.
Borderlands was one of the few game series I played with my dad. He had introduced me to them earlier when he installed them on his work computer, and once he got an Xbox360, we went through all the Borderlands games there were (1, 2, and eventually the Pre-Sequel). Borderlands 2 was definitely the one that grabbed me the most. Yeah, Borderlands 1 was decent, and Pre-Sequel had some fun movement and an interesting story, but the balance that Borderlands 2 had just made me go back to it more frequently. Even when we got a PS4, he got the handsome collection as one of his first games and we just went through them all over again, now with the new content. It's one of my most treasured memories. Even after we stopped playing together, I continued to play them because they were just perfect for me. Currently my time is being taken by 3, but I will go back to 2 from time to time
I'll never forget how i struggeled with some raid Boss on TVHM as Sniper Zero (i think it was terra, but might have been hyperious) and a friend joint my game, without a word pulled out with a gaige with a shit ton of anarchy, a bee and a level 70 nukem and just one shot that bastard and left without comment
something a lot of people gloss over on the bee is that normal splash damage gets amped. so if you have a maliwan pistol, you get the initial pellet damage + the full amp on that, then 80% of the same damage (pellet + amp) on top of that. also amp gets multiplied by crit bonuses like the lady fists' so your bee amp gets a x17 something multiplier on its amp, then you get the damage from your shot. its why the pimpernel and lady fist are beyond stupid with the bee, like gasmask mentioned
I remember farming for days , just so my casual gamer friends would play BL2 with me . But I had to gear* them up , running back and forth reviving them got old , so yeah lots of warrior and hunter farms lo . Love the channel, happy to have found your content!!!
@ItzTermx that farm was SO goated and when pamone and Tumba stopped by, that was always a bonus, but opening those cardboard boxes was always a treat for the dopamine kick. Mine was getting a caustic conference call.when it launched. It took me almost 2 weeks to get the perfect one to drop.
Could have had one that drained its whole shield on use but gave a stupid huge buff on that first shot, or one that still worked with listed projectiles, but they just gave up after making the bee
@@patrickrocheleau8185after they got the concept for the bee, they probably went "oh shit, uh isn't this kinda broken? Whatever, it's probably not gonna be a buggy mess and now we won't have to add other shit now that this exists"
Man hard to believe the games that old I remember going to the GameStop at the mall to pick up my pre order edition of BL2 lmao still have that Marcus bobble head xD
great series, came into bl2 late & didn't get to experience the bee pre-nerf, but you can do some insane things with it in gibbed & get an idea of what that was like out on the battlefield
My two sisters finally reached the proper age to play shooting games and this was the first game that I played with them. The nostalgia was crazy. It may be 10 years old but it's the best game that was ever made. My sisters are in love with it and we just finished our first play through on nvhm. Thanks for the videos man. They're awesome
I find it kinda funny how originally Amp shields were clearly meant to be used with snipers (you know single shot with high damage) but the only good Amp ever was used with everything else
I distinctly get the impression that the devs regretted the bee shield in BL2. It didn't come back in BL3 or TPS, and it's one of very few things in BL2 that actually got nerfed.
Should have whole videos for eras. Conference era, and sandhawk era.. plus sub metas like how the interfacer with bee was a massacre all over and how hard a pimpernel hit with a bee.
I remember I was hanging with my friend the weekend BL2 dropped and we spent the entire weekend playing through as much of it as possible. The next months of playing together will probably go down as some of my favorite memories gaming of all time. The Bee was incredibly overpowered back then, but I'm still kind of miffed that they nerfed it, especially after hearing that the drop rate was 3%
Man i remember old bee, bossing was actually fun. Then they nerfed it and it required skill. Then the cheese spots like pyro pete jump on ledge and terra invisibe rock. Then came the bore oneshot, 800% offhand crit etc. Ohh fun times
Tera with a conference call bee was my first foree into breaking a video game. Ever since then theory crafting has been my main source of enjoyment in gaming
another drop I don't think is mentioned in the wiki is from hadderax the invincible who will drop a bee at whatever the max level is for your playthrough
Honestly i always thought that the only nerf they needed to balance The Bee was make its Amp Damage lower since The Bee is both the shield with the lowest Charge requirement and also the highest Amp lol
I remember the baby maker working with the bee (people found out after they nerfed conference call bee) so i killed hyperius the invincible in like 10-20 seconds, it was insane
I still remember my first maxed out character being my mechromancer going full shock build and using the bee. I also remember when the game dropped I tried to collect at least one copy of every legendary and spent several hours grinding for a singular bee. Not a good one. Just one. Pain.
Me and my buddy went on a bl2 bender the past few months and we didn’t know why the bee shield was so good until we finally got one sometime super late into tvhm or maybe super early into uvhm. Either way when we realized what that meant, we realized we were never taking it off lmao
With Sal, The Bee, and 2 conference calls, I could solo 1 round the warrior before any/most of the DLCs came out. Idk if it's still that strong of a combo but my friends loved how fast we could farm
The Bee is a bit lackluster with snipers at endgame, except the Lyuda and Pitchfork. Pitchfork especially as it's basically a Sand Hawk but it shoots 5 projectiles in a line instead of them flapping like a bird. Only downside is you're out of ammo in about 5 seconds since sniper ammo cap is super low. My favorite build will always be Maya with a Sand Hawk and Bee :D
Gotta love a game of a BAZZILION guns, but they make a broken shield that removes the balancing mechanic from how amp damage works, and now the game has only ONE shield.
I definitely prefer the treeant run for bee. That allowed for COM farming as well with the chests there. With multiple enemies to farm it was more engaging as well.
I myself disagree with the spread Amp damage nerf to Amp shields in general. If I was in charge, I'd reduce the Bee's Amp damage to be equivalent to that of a Purple Amp shield (and maybe buff all the other Amp shields so the Bee and a Purple amp shield would have Amp damage of ~12K at Level 50) Though the increased Recharge delay and decreased Recharge rate was warranted
I love Borderlands 2, as ridiculous as this sounds because it truly doesn't need it, but whenever it's remastered or remade, I'm diving into it all over again, I beat BL2 32 times in the 7 years it was out before BL3 came out
So thats why it took me well over 2 hundred tries Id say to just get The Bee. 😭 it was only 3% not to mention all that load time back on the 360. My pain 😭😭
Am Lvl80 Kreig and I have been farming for a Practicable Conference Call and and an Inflammable Bee (hopefully perfect). I have a DPUH w a *forgets grip manufacturer* n it’s not perfect XC. I also accidentally turned in mission for the sandhawk AFTER I watched a video on farming the quest (quest save and quit is way easier and smarter than Benny)
Hey bro you should put the "Borderlands Retrospective" on your thumbnail, the title is so long you cant see that part unless you open the vid, that way we know when its the next episode! doing great so far!
If you're playing on the Playstation you can do the infinite badass tokens glitch and basically restore how the be was. I try not to abuse it too much but I'm at -164% recharge delay once I started ultimate Vault Hunter mode
What was the reaction to the amp shield per pellet nerf? I'd say that was a good call to nerf that cause it was extremely OP in that form. Amp damage divided amongst the pellets makes far more sense IMO
so, first time i see the bee shield i thought it is shit because of low capacity and throw it away. i used legendary turtle )))) the thing is the bee is very specific shield. bad for mobbing good for raiding that's it
This was alot shorter than I was hoping for honestly. Why didn't you wanna talk about how for a little while AFTER the bee got nerfed, the community STILL used the same combo because while the bee was nerfed, the conference call was still super good with it and still did the same thing, to the point where the conference call got a minor damage nerf and the 'god roll' could no longer roll with x7 pellets. So. If you meet a veteran, ask them if they still have that level 50, x7 conference call from back in the day. Or how the exact same issue was created AGAIN when the Omen was released because of its weird projectiles interacted with enemies. Combo'd with Zer0 B0re build, it literally deleted most bosses. Or how about when the Bee was acting weird with the evil smasher glitch and basically created the worst ear rape you ever heard? Good times... I should play some BL2 sometime..
I might be speaking out of my ass here, but I honestly feels like Save Files you can download to try out full builds, kind of ruined the vanilla experience for a lot of players and it increased the fun for only a few minority.
