Going against the heavyweight champ with lethal punching power, on literally a few minutes notice and drunk... and goes 4 rounds and ends with corner towel throw in. What an absolute legend.
I wonder who they would cast to play him if they did, hell yeah I'd watch it!!! Too bad Chris Farley isn't alive,he would've been perfect 👌 and he's from Wisconsin!!!
@@TheSoonToBePurgedJackMeHoff55 Man honestly, he sounds like a plucky Canadian. Honestly might be my new favourite journey man. What a character. I would love him already.
Imagine if Tomashek slightly drunk and loose just dropped his career best bomb and accidentally took the belt home. Waking up to see that glisten and not remembering what went down would be gold.
You can see that he was good, even after eating & drinking beer. If he had of been trained he would have been fantastic !. A champion in every sense of the word, true courage and dignity MAY GOD KEEP HIM SAFE AND WELL
Charlie Zelenoff is the Evil version of Tim Tomashek. Charlie gets beaten by pros and goes on to say he beat them. Tim gets beaten by a pro and he is happy he got his ass kicked. Charlie thinks he can fight, Tim actually can, and lasted 4 rounds with a very mean puncher
I have to wonder if Tommy carried him a bit. Tommy could probably have taken his head off with one of his signature left hooks. But it would have looked bad to kill or cripple a guy like Tomashek, especially in these circumstances.
@@adamesd3699 Just because someone isn't an A level pro, doesn't mean they can't take punches or even hit hard. SOme of the hardest hitters ie are guys who you've never heard of. Doesn't make them champion material. Then there are guys who are tough as hell, and can take all the punishment you can hope to dish out, and still come on. Sure, Morrison could've carried him, but I doubt he would have ko'd him in the 4th already, if that was the case. And if Tomashek hadn't been drunk + in better cardio shape, he might have even lasted a little bit longer. He still would've lost though...
@Jim Smith and even better is that he didn't show up on every commercial thinking his schtick is funny.he took his 15 minutes of Fame and maybe stretched it out to 17 minutes but not into obnoxiousNess
What a great great soul of a guy. Gave the crowd a show, got in the ring at an instant given opportunity with his favorite fighter of the time...incredible story!
Morrison and Tomishek are 2 of the nicest heavyweights I've ever seen. Morrison resisted people calling him the "next white hope" since he hated people making race an issue in the ring and he constantly talked about how much he had to improve and how much he wanted to learn rather then talking about how amazing he was. This guy also oozes pure charm and I love him.
Tommy was a nice guy, and probably sincere in what he said but he was essentially his Rocky 5 persona in real life. Not a bad guy, but no matter how hard he said he was going to dedicate himself he'd be partying and out chasing women until all hours while he was in the middle of training. He was always fun to watch in the ring, win or lose and he really did hate that great white hope label. But even without the bad habits that plagued him he would never have been more than a marginally top ten heavyweight. But damn he could hit.
@@p.j.4738 That was a fringe belt in 1993. I say marginal in the top ten sense, in that he didn't beat many opponents that were much more than stepping stones. Lewis handled him easily, Mercer was his first true test and we know how that turned out, (although in fairness a prime Mercer was a test for most people of that era) and even Ruddock was more or less spent after his two bouts with Tyson. (although Tommy deserves credit for dropping him with that amazing left hook). He was in line to fight Tyson after one tune up fight until he was diagnosed with HIV, and Tyson would have killed him even though Tyson had his best days behind him. Hey they guy gets talked about and still has ESPN do spots on him so he definitely made an impact on the sport. A true gunslinger but unfortunately he just didn't have the stamina or the chin to compete with legit top ten fighters of the 90's.
I was deployed at the time so I missed this entirely. I had no idea this went down. What a good guy. I'm sure not many in the audience would have stepped up like he did. Definitely brought him to my attention. 35 wins shows he's no slouch. Good stuff.
Honestly if you actually watch the whole fight you go in thinking Tommy is going to absolutely kill this guy. But then by the end of the fight you’re a huge fan of the underdog. And he actually took a beating and looked halfway decent for a person that they just called off the street
A man said "jeepers creepers"🤣🤣🤣🤣 Boxing legends,my guy,we need a part 2 of your previous video though and if you would be so kind to give us a video on Marciano
I can imagine that he was approached a time or two as an "enforcer" for a hockey team. He might be a "lackluster" fighter by elite boxing standards, but, with an accent and attitude like that and, certainly, punching skills that easily put him in the top 1 percent bracket (probably even top 1 percent of the top 1 percent) - I can't be the only person who sees that he's the right fit. He'd beat the shit out of 95 percent of the pro hockey players and love every moment of it, even while losing teeth in the process! And you know that it's true.
what a legend. taking that fight was the best decision ever and he did really well. no one expected him to win, so no real harm there. but his reputation grew exponentially by getting in that ring that night.
man tomashek is one of those guys that could be talented if they dedicated themselves to boxing...but instead he really is just there to have fun, probably came in in shitty shape..its pretty obvious he does have some good skills in there..Also, Tomashek record isn't bad , 53 wins with 12 losses..even if he really didn't beat anyone of note
@@UNSTABLE111 something tells me this fight would have gone a bit differently if he was sober. Is this to say the Doughboy would have knocked Morrison out cold in the 2nd round? No. But I do think he would have lasted longer and Morrison would not have looked as neat on camera.
if he dedicated himself to boxing? apparently you didnt pay attention very much. he was ther to watch the fight, it's not like he hd been training for it. as the post fight interview also stated, he had already fought for a world championship a few years earlier. he won more than 75% of his fights.
@@gary9346 Actually, if Doughboy had been sober and committed to the fight, it might have ended sooner because Tommy would have had no qualms about cleaning his clock with one of his lethal left hooks. As it is, I think Tommy carried him a bit and was trying to avoid seriously hurting him.
This is an individual who was a better fighter than most give him credit for! Tommy Morrison was a really good heavyweight it's a shame he enjoyed the bad things in life too much. He should be remembered for the good boxing & not the bad things & he was most of all a gentleman.
Jeepers I love the hell out of this guy he’s so happy and funny how can u not love this guy so kind hearted and too nice we need more guys like this in the world 😅😅❤❤
I remember watching this live because Tommy was my guy growing up as a kid. I really didn't appreciate how crazy it was for the guy back then as I do now. I knew it was wild when it was happening but now you realize something like that will never, ever happen in boxing again. Sure we still have stories like zamboni drivers winning hockey games as a goalie in the NHL but no way would a boxer today take that fight the way Tommy did.
Tim was a tough sob and all heart...imagine if he would have landed a haymaker and got the win though!! ... Forget Braddock, Tim would of been THE Cinderella story of all time. If you see this comment Tim youre the man. I have nothing but the utmost respect for you
This adorable man stepped in the ring on 5 minutes notice 4 brews in with a prime killer Tommy Morrison. This is the most inspirational story I've ever seen.
@@TRIIGGAVELLI No:) just NO!! ffing cheapskates, they would have paid a shitload on refunds if he didn't stand in... He did got himself into legendary status:)
Tommy Morrison was well on his way to becoming one of the greatest boxers of all time until he caught aids and ruined his career. Its a shame really, he was a great talent/boxing prospect.
Morrison actually got tested positive for Aids in the late 1980's, but kept it a secret until the late 1990's only when his health was finally deteriorating.
