The dialogue is horrible. I do like the design, but in my personal opinion, Galadriel is poorly written. That is nothing against the actress; that is just the show writers who seem to want to try too hard to sound like Tolkien. If they were trying to be completely original, it would probably be a whole lot better. You can write a story based on Tolkien and still be original. I don’t know what they’re afraid of.
"Why is Peter Parker being portrayed as a loser? Because hes a straight white male?" Peter Parker has ALWAYS been a loser. That's his entire character. Has this guy ever read a comic book?
It's not as good as the people who like it seem to think it is, and it's not as bad as the people who hate it seem to think it is. If internet discourse wasn't so weirdly political right now we'd all agree it's fine as long as you turn your brain off before you start watching and we'd leave it at that.
that bit about being legally required to explain it to your mum is actually a brilliant idea. These outrage vendors live in an echo chamber and as a result they rarely get the perspective of how insane they look to normal people
There are too many Tubers that jump on leaning into political nonsense, because for some weird reason (🪆🇷🇺💰?) being overly invested in fighting "woke" culture pays more than just giving a fair, well balanced, well adjusted honest criticism. Normal well adjusted people don't get so worked up over nothing.
Funnily enough, when the films were first coming out there actually was significant backlash about Arwen having a bigger role. So the more things change the more they stay the same I guess.
@@CarrotConsumer And that's fair. I do agree that the RoP isn't very good. The crucial question, as always, is WHY it isn't very good. And for me, that has nothing to do with a 'woke agenda' or 'DEI'. It has to do with having inexperienced creative leads who were given a blank check because Amazon had it in their collective corporate heads that - Famous Fantasy IP + Gobs of Money= GAME OF THRONES LEVEL SUCCESS! It was hubris. But it's standard corporate hubris that comes from any company that has billions of dollars to burn and expects billions of dollars in returns. No more and no less.
Thanks for this! I've been so horrified by the hate storms around genre media and genuinely fearful for casts and creators. It's time to stand up to the bizarre religiosity around genre media and let people enjoy it for what it is.
I agree and I have been horrified as well by the lack of respect and downright harassment the whole team had to go through. Very reminiscent of GOT season 8. The rings of power team is great, they are working hard on a very challenging story and I hope they get preserved and protected until the end 🙏
I didnt even like season 1 but the criticism by these "anti-woke" idiots is totally overblown and it is so dumb, i think there are a lot of legitimate criticisms of the show that people dont even talk about
I've heard people who don't witter on about what's supposedly 'woke' just say it's very boring? Is it worth trying? I have a very low threshold for boredom with fantasy and sci fi
@@goosewithagibus They did a similar "mystery" thing in Wheel of Time, idk why. I was seriously hoping we'd get a twist and the Stranger would be Saruman, because he was originally good, but no.
@@weronikazalewska2098 It's just not very good, IMO. And not because of all the garbage that people are spouting. It's just very clear that the show runners have no idea what the heck they're doing. Mr. Plinkett jumpscare 💀 I wanted to like this show, I just never got into it like the PJ trilogy. I'm glad they made it into a show, but it's just not for me. Also I wish these grifters wouldn't try and dress their """anti woke""" stuff in the cloak of actually caring about the original material. I KNOW these MFs didn't give a crap about Celebrimbor before this ALSO also I'm glad Morfydd Clark is getting more recognition, I've been obsessed with her since Saint Maud.
I know the sister of the actress who plays Galadriel (Morfydd Clark, she's from Cardiff see boyo) and the ammount of abuse the actors got online is honestly disgusting.
It's so fucked too cause it's not like these actors have given poor performances, Morfydd is a great Galadriel and I couldnt be prouder that a welsh person was portraying her
@@livingdreams9913The only criticism I have of Morfydd is she’s a little stiff sometimes but honestly that’s probably directing and Galadriel is kinda going through it this season. When in doubt it’s not the actor, it’s the director/dialogue. Regardless, the harassment is awful EVEN IF SHE WAS A BAD ACTRESS WHICH SHE ISNT.
Agree with you both. She is a fine actress, and it was probably a big leap for her to take on such a challenge. She brings a refreshing authenticity and sensibility to the role, which largely makes up for the minor variations in acting quality. And most of all she is a beautiful human being, who deserves respect and not insults and body shaming as I have seen online.
I was about to quit RU-vid for real until I came across this. I watched a couple of vids saying how awful Rings of Power was, didn't watch the show, then my kid started watching it with her dad and they loved it? It's entertaining and nice to look at? And the people hating on it get money for hating it. What's crazy is the algorithm just keeps showing me all the hate. Over and over and over.
I feel you. I was so happy to find the option under each video entitled « stop recommending this video ». Now I am cleaning up my toxic RU-vid landscape, and feel so much better !
It’s such a difficult time to just enjoy the geeky things I’ve always loved as a non-white non-straight dude. The most racist and bigoted comments and ideology I’ve ever seen have come from Star Wars fans, Marvel fans, DC fans, anything geeky. Even ignoring it takes a lot of energy.
Bla bla bla, everything is racist for certain people. The show is actually dumb it misinterprets everything Tolkien meant with his writings and elves weren't black. Cope
Glad to know there's a fellow enjoyer of the show out there who finds all the discourse exhausting and flat-out bizarre. It's one thing to admit that there are moments here and there that feel clumsy, or places where the show needed to find its footing, but I'll be damned if this isn't just a total case of people "deciding to hate something" and then searching every frame for whatever they can possibly hate. Season 1 was solid enough, but Season 2 was a huge improvement! I'm just grateful so much of it exists in the first place-especially some of the score/original songs, getting to see places and worlds like Númenor and Khazad Dûm, excellent original characters like Adar, and truly stunningly good adaptation like everything with Sauron/Celebrimbor. That makes it all worth celebrating, to me!
Right there with you! I feel so bad for the creators - everyone from the tech people to the actors to the writers - to have to deal with all this hate. I enjoy the show, see it for what it is and am fearful that so many fanatical haters exist.
Adar is a good original character? Sauron or Celebrimbor were well adapted? You simply must be trolling. There cannot be an actual human being who believes this.
@@djamel-arbouche Snide responses won't magically make people dejected and slink off. Throwing condescension back at my face won't make gravity reverse and certainly won't make ROP anything near passable for a production of it's size. I can *feel* how triggered you are in the way you type, a cliché for a mindless contrarian.
I really wanted to like this show, especially with all the ridiculous hate it was getting before it was even released. Then I watched it, and as much as I didn’t want to, I really did just find it…boring. It didn’t capture either the grand, majestic scale or the whimsical charm that I want when I journey to Middle Earth. I didn’t particularly care about most of the characters. I was happy for those who enjoyed it, but my reaction was just “oh, that was kind of dull and disappointing.” As far as I’m concerned, and as it is with many of these rebooted/remade corporate products, I don’t see how a strong, angry reaction can be anything other than an anti-woke grift.
Woke is such a bizarre catch all term. Yes, there is some diverse casting. Yes, there are female POV characters. But at its core it is quite a religious show about good versus evil. It has no sex, no queerness, and a few minor chaste romantic plots. The show is very popular in countries that are very conservative in their values.
It's bloody woke. Orcs have families and ask to not go to war. 😂 only idiotic woke leftists could come up with something like this. And the girl bosses, and diversity were there shouldn't be any...it's woke crap
thanks for talking about this!! i love trop and everyone is so miserable about it largely for sexist and/or racist reasons. season 2 was a big step up too imo
They should have made their own show with their own lore instead of trying to highjack middle earth just to trick people into watching . If they think middle earth is so backwards they should have left it in the past
I haven't even watched this yet but thank you. I'm so sick of this click-baity negativity everywhere just for the sake of hating something. (Imo there's plenty one can not agree with in the show or think could have been done better but there's also plenty to like and it's just NOT THAT SERIOUS.)
I'm a Tolkien fanatic, I've read the books, the slim, the unfinished tales, tales of middle earth, all of them, and i still really like the rings of power. It's fun and I think it's a good thing that more people can be introduced to Tolkien's world. I've always lived it and I hope a new generation of folks can too
"Women and coloured people are not being treated like sh*t! Gasp, my immersion... nooooo" I'm not sure if elves, giants, sorcerers, and dwarves are an actual species on Earth, in our history where we didn't have a bunch of fantasy lads and lasses running about with a ring. Saying it isn't accurate to history is wild.
It's so funny some people have forgotten that you can choose to not watch something if you hate it 🤷🏻♀️ it's not for you, go elsewhere, you don't need to tell everyone it's terrible..... apart from it makes a ton of money to do so. Be normal is such good advice 🤣
You can also choose to criticize it. There’s nothing wrong with criticizing a show. How would writers and show runners even know what to improve on or how certain added elements are being received by fans if nobody discussed shows unless they liked it? I’m not sure what’s up with this new generation and new trend of trying to silence people who disagree with you. There’s nothing wrong with having discourse on why a show/book/game/movie or whatever is good or bad. People only talk about it because they care about these properties. You’re basically saying that unless you are giving something praise, you shouldn’t say anything. I’m a black woman so this has nothing to do with me hating black people or being white or “alt right.” I’m just a normal person who doesn’t get bothered by someone dragging something I like.
I'm a big fan of Tolkien and I like the Rings of Power quite a bit. It has a lot of stuff I don't like but also a lot of stuff I like. Things just can't be decent anymore - they have to be either flawless or garbage.
It is a boring slow paced show, that somehow takes itself way too serious and not seriousenough to actually make decent costumes. And god the pseudo intellectual dialogue. Every simile and metaphor is painful as fuck
Thanks! I'm very spooked by the level of vitriol thrown at creators and think it is only a matter of time before one of them gets hurt. I like the show for what it is, and I believe that many people who do are too fearful of backlash and/or bullying to say so. It's fine if you don't like it but no one should approve of the fanatical hate that has swirls around genre media.
You are so right ! Also something I don’t see discussed much is what it means for a show to be « good ». There seems to be a trend where group of fanatical people go about picking any fault in « logic » or « writing » or « dialogue », and then we get their judgement : the show is « bad ». But movies were never only about perfectly logical storylines and exquisite dialogue at every turn. Maybe sometimes we can just enjoy a movie as an experience, without having to have a very rational or checklist-compliant frame for linking it. I loved rings of power, and what if I am deemed « stupid » by these people ?
Try finding a lord of the rings audiobook. There are some that sing the poems and play background noises and music. (I have horrible ADHD and this got me through the Tom Bombadil chapters)
Thank you! I have been feeling the same way about this show since it started! The idiotic level of bullshit leveled at the show has been insane. I have found the show decent to good though I haven't finished season 2.
Every few months I'll forget he exists only for him to come screeching back into my life and take a small but not insignificant piece of my faith in humanity with him
I haven’t watched the show myself, but I really, REALLY appreciate this video, it’s like a breath of fresh air. Even if this show objectively sucks, that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist. There is nothing that warrants these extreme responses, it’s just a TV show. Jesus. xD And honestly, I don’t think most of these people are even that mad, they just want views and it’s really pathetic. It feels like in general, media is either overhyped or overhated and like you said - why can’t we just be normal about things anymore? Why can’t you just be a casual fan of something? Also, even though this video wasn’t about the Hobbit, I feel like it applies to it. People talk about the Hobbit movies like they’re the worst pieces of cinema ever made and that’s just not true. I enjoyed all of them! There’s a lot of genuine criticism toward them, sure, but they aren’t abominations.
Thank you for pointing out how extreme the discourse around film and TV is nowadays... it's sometimes easy to forget that this is not normal, when it seems that "everyone" on the Internet does it.
Theres barely any live action fantasy shows left and even if the show isnt faithful to the source it still doesnt look as bad as the handful of bandwagon fantasy shows that came out in the wake of GoT becoming a hit. I can appreciate the show for what it is.
@@stefannydvorak7919 it's not low quality though. Did you see The Shanarah Chronicles? They just hired some models and ran them threw the woods and called it a day. This show has improving production and pretty decent sfx.
I don't think it would matter if the show were theoretically perfect for the kind of people who spend their time complaining about it because for them the bitching is the entertainment. Devoting so many hours and so much headspace to complaining about things being "woke" is absurd unless they actually find it fun or enjoyable. It's why they watch videos like this one and then get into arguments in the comment section. The bitching is the point
House of the Dragon disproves this notion, everyone in that sphere was prepared to bash on it before it came out but when it did and they saw that it was decent, they said as much.
I got caught in the grift when it first came out/was announced, glad I stepped away from that side of youtube. I still dont like the show - but not for the same reasons as anti-woke grifters, their reasons are so surface level and need to be separated from the wider context of both the show itself and the production process to even make sense in their minds. A lot of it comes off as nitpicky gripes used to push a conservative culture war narrative. Anyway; if you like the show, good on ya :)
Thanks for being sane. I'm an LOTR fan (been reading the books) and there's a lot the Rings of Power show gets right almost as much as they change details or get wrong (of which there is a difference). I've also noticed that every time a woman is portrayed as competent in fighting is instantly labelled by these nonces as a girlboss or mary sue when literally 80% of their favourite fiction boys possess those exact same traits. The actors and actresses are also SUCH AMAZING PERFORMERS HOLY SHIT. Especially this season.
Seeing this pop up in my subscription feed won Mr Joseph Fisher my respect until the end of time, it's literally not that bad, I can't keep having the same conversation about this show in every tolkien community I inhabit
I have to disagree. As a black woman, I can’t stand when they sprinkle black people in at random into medieval European fantasy settings. It’s so damn distracting because instead of focusing on the story, I start wondering how this mixed population came about. Because shows like this usually provide zero explanation. The more I think about how the population came about, the less it makes sense. Even if you discount racism and just pretend racism isn’t a factor in this world, it still doesn’t make sense because after several generations of mixing, they would all be one race. In the 1990s the comedian Martin Lawrence did a movie where he was a black knight in a medieval world AS A JOKE, and now Hollywood is doing that for real and all the time! The Lord of Rings was not racist and was fine having all white people in it because it made sense for that world. Why does every setting have to look like downtown LA in 2024? It destroys the escapism. Most black people I talk to can’t stand it but white liberals are always defending it and I don’t know why. We never asked for this and I’m fine being left out of these stories.
That's true the writers should've been more creative and added additional lore like these dwarfs are black because they were the long lost tribe of the south and has once again made contact with the rest of the dwarves. Or something like that! It would make sense, right?
If people don’t understand what I mean…I also wanted to provide an example to help you understand. Pretend they did a story about fantasy ancient China and that 25% of the characters in that story were black. Also pretend that the population is never explained in that story. Pretend you just press play on the movie and that suddenly there are black characters walking around everywhere in this ancient fantasy China location. It would be so jarring to see that, would it not?Exactly. Well, the same consideration should be given to European settings. It’s no different. It is also weird because writers are just removing racism artificially from the world. They’re pretending race relations isn’t a thing which makes it an awkward experience and kinda insulting. Race not being a factor is just not believable because it is 100% normal for civilians of a world to reject or not like foreigners migrating in, even when those foreigners are white. So it’s just hard for me to believe that Middle-Earth would not only accept foreigners with no problems but black ones at that! 😂 Stop trying to play in our faces, Hollywood ! Boromir is probably rolling around in his damn grave watching these n*ggas in Middle-Earth! 😂 I’m just kidding but you get the point. And if the Rings of Power show runners are not trying to imply that the black people migrated in, and that they’ve already been in Middle-Earth since the beginning of recorded history, then that just creates an even BIGGER mess because like I said before, they should all be one homogeneous race if that’s the case because they would be mating and mixing with each other after multiple generations since racism doesn’t exist. Last I would like to add that people are assuming everyone who hates this type of stuff are “white alt right racists” when many people have an issue with it but are just silent because they don’t want to be accused of being a bigot. Even though these writers may have good intent and their heart might be in the right place, we know black people are only being added to these type of stories for politics, diversity and inclusion, and not for the story so it kinda feels like charity and is kinda insulting low key. I wish they would just get back to hiring creative geniuses and not activists. It is destroying film in my humble opinion.
@@54032ZepolRight. I genuinely wouldn’t mind if they had all black dwarves or something like that. That would actually make sense and wouldn’t even need explaining honestly. But the mixed populations for every race/species make little sense because that’s not how population growth works. I try to give stories like this a chance but then it becomes difficult because world building is very important to me in film. It’s hard to stay focused on a story when the world has fallen apart for you within the first 5 minutes of the film. I’ve found it very hard to escape lately and it’s just a bit frustrating because as a film lover and someone who has been through a lot, I used to watch film to escape from the stresses of life. Now I can’t do that because Hollywood feels like it has to make everything look like modern day America to match their ideologies. Even when I’m trying to give it my best effort to enjoy a show like this, in the back of my mind I’m thinking about how the world building and populations make no damn sense. I noticed that when we have cultural issues in our world like homophobia or racism, we tend to OVERcorrect problems. We always adjust things too much and create new problems by trying to eliminate the old ones like lack of diversity in film. And I would actually argue that Hollywood was ALREADY diverse and has been since the damn 80s! I’m so surprised that people don’t think movies and shows were already diverse. Black people make up only 13% of the US population but we make up like 50% of the cast in most big productions. The same goes for black people in the music industry. Lack of diversity in film seriously feels like a manufactured issue and not something based on actual facts and statistics. There are several problems with Hollywood but few black people in movies and shows wasn’t one of them I’m afraid.
there IS racism in lotr. elves dont like dwarves, dwarves dont like orcs, hobbits dont like men. middle earth does not function like actual earth. china is a real place?????..... middle earth is not.....
Most of the criticism is valid for this show. - More than half the actions of the main characters don't make sense in the context of their own story and their own supposed knowledge - Constantly ripping off other and better works from PJ's LotR to Star Wars and Princess Bride (but withot the necessary setup) - Completely pointless Gandalf story, Tom Bombadil is a discount Yoda - Convoluted timeline where you have no idea at any given moment how much time has passed since you were last in this storyline and how that lines up with the others - Compressed timeline makes Sauron's supposed legendary cunning look like surface level deception that anyone with a half functioning brain should've been able to see through - A billion dollar production that doesn't have money for enough extras so the whole giant city is defended by a dozen guys and a jewelsmith - All of the above covered with memberberries and references that not only don't belong there but don't even make sense in that context I can go on and on and on. If you guys can really look past all that and really believe it's that good - I'm really happy for you. Enjoy the show. I on the other hand can't.
- examples? - examples? - "pointless" is a funny criticism when you mention Tom Bombadil two words later. He was always that. - The exact amount of time that has passed is not crucial information, unless you are a pedantic weirdo that thinks the timeline is more important than the narrative. - It's still more than Tolkien ever wrote down 🤷 jrrt didn't even bother to try and showcase Sauron's deception, he just pulled the "trust me bro" classic. - You reveal yourself as someone who did not even bother to view the thing you are critiquing with this endlessly repeated and blatantly untrue "critique" lmao. Get new material. - "memberberries" ah, of course. You cannot think for yourself, so you let irritating pedant RU-vid grifters do it for you. Baahhh, baaahhhh, little sheep.
My head canon is that since this is set thousands of years before the Lord of the Rings this is Galadriel when she was young and rowdy and she had a growth spurt after retiring
My analysis of the show: 1. Bad writing 2. Enjoyable when not watching alone 3. Critical Drinker releases an egg smell whenever he stands up from his gaming chair 4. What conditioner does Annatar use? 5. Family Ork (Grûg) is the best character #SpinOffPlease 6. THE SEAAAA IS ALWAYS RIGHT
Canonical orc babies means that this movie takes place in the version of middle earth where orcs have souls, which is actually wild. We've seen humanising moments with them and that's crazy to think about.
That was really good! And now after hearing you mention Doctor Who (which admittedly has a lot of similar problems in fandom) I want to hear your takes on that (I am very picky with what RU-vidrs I watch that cover DW so consider that a compliment).
❤ i 100 percent agree. I enjoyed the series, but like any media i participate with im not expecting it to change my life. Sensationalism ruins everything yo...
When the Jackson trilogy came out, people DID complain about Arwen and the other creative choices made. Jackson just handled the complaints like a champ and kept it moving.
Babe, shut up Joseph Fisher uploaded a new video 🫡 In seriousness though, this lines up exactly with how I felt about the acolyte. After constantly seeing the hate I decided to try it. Was it a perfect show? No but it was fun and interesting. People please me normal.
I actually really liked the acolyte. I’m not really interested in stories about main characters like Han, Luke or Rey- I want to experience the world. The acolyte gave me an outside story that I didn’t know. It was fun and that’s what mattered.
@@XuiLeeEv dude that fight scene in the middle of the season was actually one of the best in star wars, especially the willingness to kill a certain character. The anti-woke people ruin REAL criticism and conversation around media. To them, it’s all about aesthetics and decoration, they ignore the substance and story telling. It’s really annoying when you wanna critique something and all anyone talks about is how they’re black people or women, or someone sexual orientation in it and it’s like wtf… do you have any REAL criticism or feedback? Ugh, I hate it
I'm a black girl. Im disappointed by people talking for us. It needs to stop because we didnt ask for this. Especially in medieval setting in other films where historically my people wouldnt be there. Or anywhere were race swapped in. They really do think we're stupid. And it hurts me. Im distracted and i feel patronized while also fully understanding that they dont care about my people and they threw one of us in their show as an obligation. When my people showed up in older stuff and anime, i felt SO PROUD!! Like omg they tight we eere cool enough to include us. Like, YES! I am really happy to know that sincerely even if they sont know everything about oir culture. They try and are genuinely interested. even today when people get creative for us (Jordan Peele!! WHOO! he finally gave us horror and films that aren't directly slave or gang movies, he genuinely wanted us there and gave us a genre we have never seen ourselves in before). But i feel tokenized and a bit like a shield when we're thrown places to cause outrage or used to justify calling everyone racist. My people DO NOT care abt this nonsense and movies that don't have us shoved in it. And when they DO cram us in they dont knownhow to write us! Were never speaking AAVE or posting up, getting our hair braided, were also not allowedto be people. We can't have flaws, they often use us as machines to say something they are afraid to say irl. And my grandma said to me the other day " You know we'll never even see that poor baby again." When talking about the little mermaid with the black actress. Idk you guys, i know its hard tl look at the full picture. But i cant wait for this sh*t trend to end. I wanna go back. And im tired. (Hey i originally posted this as a comment reply but i think its important so im also gonna postnit as its own comment. Ty ilu)
There's a lot to be said about modern day fandom discourse about media, and how it's almost always negative and applying US-centric, modern day morals to fiction and fictional characters. People who pride themselves to have media literacy (quite wrongly in many cases) but fail to grasp the media in its context. Also why is it usually negative? Sometimes you just want to enjoy something, you know? It's not all srsbzns, it's fictional media. I'd say you're perfect to make a video on it but I value your mental health, so.
The biggest (legitimate) complaint I ever heard about the show was that it was "inaccurate", which is only true to the most intense lore-nerds; and bearing in mind that this is an original story based on sparse backstory writings that were never fleshed out by Tolkien. And anyway, Peter Jackson made changes to the LotR movies which are BELOVED, you have to adapt the story, you can't just copy everything from text to screen. Obviously the show isn't perfect but good lord it's far closer in quality to the LOTR movies than it is to the Hobbit trilogy. My main criticisms are that it's taking the story really slowly, and NO FEMALE DWARF BEARDS!
Disa does have some decent fuzz on her cheeks. (She's one of my favorite characters in the show) While it's true that Tolkien did not have a fully fleshed out novel written about the Second Age, there should be enough there for some decent writers to come up with a truly remarkable story. I just don't think we got that, sad to say. I really enjoyed the first season and was hopeful as to the direction the showrunners were taking us, despite some flaws. I just think the second season failed to deliver. There are so many plot issues, contrivances, and continuity errors that I feel would not exist had the show been produced by experienced showrunners and writers. Just a single example of what I'm talking about is in the last 2 episodes where Arondir is stabbed by Adar, which appeared to be a mortal blow with Adar giving his blade an extra shove to really drive home his murderous intent, but then the next episode Arondir just appears with no wound, fighting orcs like he was never injured whatsoever. It just seemed like an obvious continuity error which took me out of the immersion, and there are many, many such glaring issues with this season. The Peter Jackson movies are not perfect and I remember sitting in the theatre during the Two Towers and Return of the King especially, groaning to myself over some of the decisions Jackson and his writers made. The difference between those movies and the Rings of Power is that, on there own, the Jackson movies are some of the greatest films ever produced which is evidenced by them being among the most awarded films in history. Contrast that fact with the Rings of Power which has performed ABYSMALLY in terms of awards, and there are very good reasons why.
@@itcouldbelupus2842 yeah they need a life. Show had bigger issues, digital production made it look cheaper then the LOTR even with triple the budget. Characters would not say are engaging enough to carry a show and it certainly didn’t have a plot you could tell soemone in an elevator which you can 100% do for LOTR.
@@m.c4210 Personally it takes me out of the story. Its impossible for half of the elves to be black, since its set in time before mass transport. People would all generally look alike, with some differences ofc. It breaks the immersion otherwise. And I dont want to hear the argument that its fantasy so who cares, because if Galadriel pulled out a glock it would also be immersion breaking. Even fantasy has to follow logic. Since heritability and thus genes are established in lotr, it means the logic about phenotypes should apply. But yea the show did have bigger problems than this.
Lore is important though. I have no problem with black elves in record of lodoss wars or delicious in dungeon the lore sets it up. There is a reason we have different books aimed at different people. If you wanted black people in lord of the rings you could have invented a new fantasy race . Like a winged bird race only black people could play or a group that could change into spirit creatures expanding the myth around the eastern lands
The Lord of the Rings is a fantasy that is beloved by die-hard fans, and you're shocked that these fans are outraged by the bastardization of the lore?🤔
I have no problem with different races representing these mythical characters! The only thing that bothered me was that some of the elves didn’t really have those regal elven features that I think makes them elves. For example I think Arondir and Galadriel totally looked like elves but Mirdania and some of the background elves just looked like normal people with pointy ears.
I am of two minds on this. On the one hand, I totally agree, and I giggle whenever I see a normal looking dude amongst the Elves- but also, I am an Elf hater for life, and I kind of like the idea that the famed beauty of them is just classic Elf supremacy and Elven pride & arrogance coloring the narrative, and they're actually just mostly normal looking.
The showrunners of The Rings of Power have managed to deliver one of the biggest disappointments in recent memory for true Tolkien fans. It’s as if they never bothered to understand the depth and spirit of Middle-earth, instead opting to create their own cheap version, wrapped in flashy visuals but completely hollow inside. This isn’t an homage to Tolkien’s world; it’s a soulless cash grab that disregards the intricacies of the lore. Weak character development, nonsensical plot choices, and a complete lack of authenticity make this feel more like bad fan fiction than a true addition to Middle-earth. There’s nothing redeemable about this mess, and it’s an insult to the legacy it claims to honor.
Two words : misogyny, racism. This fanbase was always made of a lot of people like these. The show is not as breathtaking as the films but it would be more beloved if it wasn't for that anti woke mentality that really is just far more whiny in itself than *they* accuse wokeness of being lmao.
i don't think that's fair to say not everyone who love's the lotr are "like this" i think we just want a well adapted show lmao yes there's alot of people who complain about it being "woke" i also don't think it helps you grouping all lotr fans as misogynistic and racist.....and not that it matters but im a female and a poc..... lmao
@@hiigara2085 Well it depends on why you hate the show actually. Because if your reasons for hating the show are genuinely racist and misogynist then that's an accurate description, even if you don't want to be called that. You don't get to decide that you aren't that just because you say so, it's entirely decided by the content of your character and your critique.
You said it all.. they scream and spit because that's their job and what pays their bills... i bet that if that bald guy makes a video talking calmly about he same subject, it will be his less viewed video ever and he will be called a fraud. Because he depends so much on the rage bull persona for his content... and paying the bills.... If you don't enjoy the series don't watch it.. and let others enjoy it without screaming in their ears about elf hair size....
13:11 I really like the way you worded this. I'm a huge Tolkien fan and took this show for what it is: entertainment. It's not that deep. In this hellscape timeline we live in, let me enjoy oNE THING. I thought the acting was great, the enthusiasm from the crew and cast was great. Do I think it's the best thing ever? Absolutely not. Critical thinking and media literacy have literally died (no she's meditating guys). Anyway, thank you for another banger. (ps I found your channel because of your gnome video and I'm so glad I did!)
also PSA: there IS racism in lotr. elves dont like dwarves, dwarves dont like orcs, hobbits dont like men. middle earth does not function like actual earth. one person tried to say it would look weird if they made a film about ancient china and put black people in it, but uhhhh🤔 china is a real place?????..... middle earth is not..... our race politics would not be the same.
superfans are scary because they just sweep you in in their absoloute insanity with how close something is to the source text or if somebody views a different character in a different light. when i was younger i loved harry potter and when your young you just think its normal when it really isnt 😭😭
The show has one true problem, it's not fun. ROP is the most boring of all the LOTR movies and that's it's biggest problem. Fans will forgive anything as long as the movie was a fun watch.
It's a endemic of the modern age that I've seen time and time again. The sheep hear something is bad, and baaaaaaa they agree. I ask which bit is bad, and they're like "you think I'm watching this shit?!" Meanwhile, I'm seriously enjoying watching this guy deceive everyone with sweet tasting lies before going back to his freakish emotionless face when people aren't around. Also, please 27:17
The thing I see for every show the internet hivemind decides must be hated is "bad dialogue", and it's really bizarre to me because in every instance I can think of it's absolutely fine!
I really don’t care about the show but the hate it’s getting is ridiculous. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it and leave the actors alone. It’s just a show you can turn the TV off.
These people sound insane… those short clips at the beginning of the video were crazy. Like, I do get and understand constructive criticism but most of them don’t even provide any constructive critique? It's just them shouting how much they hate it. And these are grown men. Just lost af…
There's a few reviews (that were a bit negative) that I kinda liked which were a bit more meme-y and I liked them for the funny memes that didn't take themselves too seriously, but overall the backlash to the show was extremely harsh and at times definitely unwarranted (especially the "woke" stuff). I can understand though if people didn't like it and that's ok - what's not ok is the harassment the cast has received because of it. Personally I think the scenery and some of the acting was really really good. The music especially I think deserves a lot of praise, it brought me back to the OG movies and just felt very LotR (barring that one orc song outro that I didn't really care for xD). That said, the writing was a bit....meh, the pacing slow at parts and some characters I did not care for at all. Galadriel (especially in the first season) felt written like a moody teen girl and grated on me - which is not the actress's fault, she did the best with what she was given and all the hate she's getting is just awful. Just because I didn't care for some of the characters the way they were written, doesn't mean I should go and harass them. Some story lines were better than others for sure: I really liked anything to do with the dwarves where most of the Numenor and harfoot parts left me a bit bored (which is a shame, I really liked the main cast of the Numenor part and enjoyed the visuals a lot!). Anyway, I'll still keep watching because any excuse to listen to the music and see beautiful scenery is good enough for me haha
I think the show gets such hard criticism because they always stated it's the most expensive show ever made, so that made people have super high expectations. Personally I don't care abot what color of skin or how tall the characters are, but I can't deny that many of them are just unlikable to me. Since the very first scene, I felt Galadriel didn't care at all about his little army when she was searching for Sauron, all her interactions with other characters were just manipulative and angsty, she made the biggest mistake of not telling everyone who Sauron was as soon as she knew and she never has repercussions about her poor choices. The passing of the time is very unclear, we can see characters being in one place, and then the next scene they are already in another one, same clothes and everything, but in a place that supposedly should take weeks to reach. This happens so many times it's really confusing. I felt some scenes were way too quick, they build up the Balrog for two seasons and it was on screen for a total of 3 minutes, being forgotten by everyone as soon as the cave collapsed. I'm making just one example but there are really so many it would take me forever to list them all. I'm not the biggest fan of the lord of the rings movies, and I didn't read the books. To me it's just not a very good series. That said, when I watch a video where all their criticisms are about how white the elfs and dwarves should be, I close it at the speed of light, that's just stupid You made a great video and I'm glad you are enjoying the series :)
I love Lord of the Rings and I love this show. If you like fantasy at all I highly recommend you go watch it. I am so afraid it's gonna be cancelled. This show is absolutely worth your time and to me definitely captures the magic of the lord of the rings series.
Preemptively calling yourself racist is kinda telling... also what do you mean it strays from his work? Tolkien only wrote scraps of information about the second age, the story is basically all original.
