Askeladd is sweating and panting because he understood how important the surprise attack was. Askeladd also felt that he would lose instantly if Thors had kicked him. In other words, Askeladd saw death's foot almost hit him.

Thors is considered to be the strongest warrior in this show's world. Sorry, no magical powers, just very real, complex characters. Askeladd wasn't joking when he asked Thors to become their leader. Also, this isn't a simple revenge story. Even though we're seeing Vikings on screen & yes, there's a lot of violence in season 1, this show is more about non violence than violence. There's much less action in season 2. You'll love season 2 more than 1 I'm sure. For me, season 1 is 9.5/10 & season 2 is a 10/10
