good question, you probably could get away with it depending on what line type and size you are throwing. if you went that route id throw braid to leader to increase line capacity or 15 lb flouro or mono (which is light in my opinion). you could definitely get to the end of the spool casting with the wind with 20lb fluorocarbon and a 3oz swimbait on a 150 size reel. i would personally go with the 200 size reel. i normally don't go less than 20lb flouro with any larger swimbaits. specifically for the size baits you described or asked about i would go shimano tranx 200 with 20lb fluorocarbon maybe even 25lb flouro on the 3oz bait.
Wow!! He speaks!! Lol....great info...straight forward....now we gotta decide between electric bill or glide bait!! Mickey makes the best glide bait....workhorse is legit!! Thanks Cam
I don’t have any experience with the top hook but I’ll bet it would be great for super shallow applications. I love the bottom hook line through swimbait. That’s the one I would recommend because that’s the one I have experience with. I have never had any issues and you can even run that bait super shallow because it’s so buoyant. Works like a charm
I tie my glidebaits to a split ring attached to the screw eye of the biat. i use the owner hyperwire split rings and have never had any issues. ive tried the clips and i dont love them. I have had them bend out and break before. i think the split ring still allows the bait to have plenty of action and is better than just tying directly to the loop on the bait.
