Great tips, I've never worked with EVA foam and this will help tremendously when I make that jump into the material. Thanks.

Thank you for the little details that one has to do, from start to finish. Other prop. builders would just show the first step, then show the finished project. Keep up on those type of videos. Enjoy them very much.

If I’ve already glued parts together with contact cement, will the heat gun melt that bond away?

Thanks, not a bad alternative technique to dremmel and belt sanding! Although I caved in the end and used the dremmel as there were just so many (millennium falcon) pads! Still finished final sanding passes by hand though... Thanks for watching..

Great video James btw! I seem to have troubles with my EVA foam edges unless I use my table saw. What grit sandpaper do you use on the second pass? So you use plasti-dip first then paint over top of? Thanks for video! I somehow forgot to comment on this. But I really like the flow. I think this is the first time I learned something on your channel! LOL Just kidding. :)

Thanks mate, I just use finer paper with each pass 🙂

Thank you once again! Now that you covered sanding.. is there anything special to think of when painting foam? Do I have to cover the foam with something first, before I can apply spray paint?
@RebelBaseBuilds
@RebelBaseBuilds 3 года назад
Hey, I'll do a follow up video soon but yes you can use a spray grey primer and then acrylics etc, but if you are after flexibility you should check out flexilpaint, that brushes right on beautifully, if you want to stick with spray then lots of colours now available in the plastidip range, they go better over a primer, that way you will use less as the primer stops it soaking in to the foam... 🙂
@kyr_taap
@kyr_taap 3 года назад
@@RebelBaseBuilds Thanks for the quick answer! I've read that I can also mix some woodglue and water to seal up the foam? I have a primer and spray paint in my cellar as well, so I guess I'll try both of these methods first! If I'm going to make something in the future that needs more flexibility, I'll consider your other hint too 👍

What would you say is the best electronic means of sanding large foam pieces? Im getting a dremel set but currently looking for larger pieces. Everyone ive asked says get a belt sander, but I'm also looking for smaller electronic sanders. Would you say a mouse sander (aka. detail sander) is good for sanding EVA foam? If not what other electronic sanders would you recommend?
@RebelBaseBuilds
@RebelBaseBuilds 3 года назад
Thanks you for watching, I definitely use a mouse sander for detailing but have so got hold of a mini belt sander which has been a god send! www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08GS6ZWDZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_W3XDX8NM1JC5JKNS3MFR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

@@RebelBaseBuilds Ahhh I see. Well im planning on investing in a big belt sander in the future, but if a detail sander works then I'll look into geting one of those for the time being to start up. Thanks for the advice.
